Just wanted to say I really liked the way Colbert handled Garfield's answer on his grief. Looked him in the eyes, thanked him for sharing, held his hand with both his own. And that's enough, because the pain they feel is their own, and you are not there to say you know it, because you don't. You only have to show that you are listening, that you are there for them. Brilliant.

The conversations end, but your father is woven into the fibres of your being, so you can't lose him. Even when his influence on you ripples out to others around you. And then in turn, to those people who pass on some of his essence to effect more people, and so on... The emptiness of loss of the relationship is the contrasting shadow that highlights all those bright moments that you have gained in your years of knowing him. And those memories, his love for you, are yours to keep; the smile through your tears for those personal precious moments. Even as the powerful waves of grief lessen, you can smile that secret smile of knowing, with gratitude for such a man, such a father, as part of your life, and part of who you are.

He had me crying because I think I my beautiful mother who has read the Bible twice in her life. When she started getting to the point she knew she wouldn't be here to many years ahead was when she read the Bible a second time. She knew every word and meaning in the Bible with a 6th grade education and I can hardly pronounce many of words and the understanding with a full course education. My grandfather taught himself how to read and studied the Bible and taught this to his kids. He never went to school and was a brilliant person in reading and writing. He read many different books on religion and listened to tapes of a well known person who studied the Bible. I wish my grandfather were here to speak to people about what he learned because we would all believe in God and know he really exist. I believe Andrew is a Christian and by this his pain from losing his mother gives him hope that he will see her again in God's time to call us home.

This movie and interview shattered me. I lost my older sister in April and my life has utterly stopped moving. And yet I know this grief will never end nor do I want it to because it really is all my unexpressed love. She was only 26. My better half. I love you Steph and I miss you everyday.

“I hope this grief stays with me” is such a true statement. My dad committed suicide 7 tears ago , I love talking about him/listening to song that make me remember him, both in a positive and a sad light…My biggest fear is the day coming where I don’t get choked up/emotional when talking about him. He was the best.

I am SO sorry for your loss. You’ll be in my thoughts. I lost my dad 14 years ago this last October. I’ve never heard grief explained this way until he said it the way he did, and it was almost freeing, like an epiphany to me as to why it still hurts so much. I still cry and get emotional to this day when I think of my dad, but from this moment forward it will always be a “beautiful thing.”

I have heard two of the most beautiful takes on grief this year. On WandaVision: Vision: “What is grief, if not love persevering?” … and now Andrew Garfield on this interview. What a perfect time to hear these things. I’m sure many people needed to hear this and I hope it helped some. #AndrewGarfield

I love what Andrew said about grief. I have to wonder if some artists leave us so soon because of the fire that burns within them. My son passed at age 36, and he was an incredible artist. I listened to those words with tears in my eyes for my son David, for John, and for Andrew’s mom.

@@ruraljuror1734 Sorry for your loss, especially due to something that all of us should have prevented. For me, I lost my father a few years back, and I think of him daily. I've done my best to move forward, but it's hard -- especially at the first. So, go easy on yourself. It's really a "tough road" if you were close, as I was with my Dad. He wasn't the best man that ever lived, but he did the best that he could with what he had. So, you are not alone. One of best things that helped me was going to some grief therapy get-togethers and doing some individual counseling. It sounds weird, but it really, really helped me process it. So, I hope you are moving forward and not being consumed by grief, as I was at the first. So, if you want to chat about it, I'll reply. Know people care about your loss, even if they don't say it ... So, you're not alone.

I'm sorry for your loss. Too lost my dad last to covid. Grief is real and hard but one thing g I stick to in these hard times is take one day at a time. To take the time to grief..grief is normal. Most importantly is to keep the memories of your father pondered in your ❤ heart. Like the bible says there is a time for everything. A time to laugh ,a time to cry.

As someone who lost his mother to cancer at 29, I can confirm that the grief does stay with you. To reference another play, the grief is like a brick you keep in your pocket. After a while you forget its there, sometimes. But the reminder that it's there is constant.

andrew 🥺 i saw this video on reddit and had to find the actual video. i lost my mum to cancer too, it is such a horrible illness, and it makes me upset when people tell me 'oh your mum fought so hard', cancer isnt something that can be 'fought' people get sick, they get treatment and they are either lucky enough to survive or they end up dying before their time. cancer is brutal, and i miss my mum everyday. my mum was one of the best people i know, and she loved me even after everything we'd been through, i miss her everday today marks 2 months since her passing, and it's almost unfathomable to me. but your words feel like a hug. i'm sorry you lost your mum too, it tears you apart inside whilst the love you carry, as you said, sews up your wounds
