It's how it is in my country, sortoff. Also, even better, there are limits to when parties can campaign, iirc, they can start only one month before an election, and there is a total ban of any form of campaigning on election day itself. A few years ago, a car with big stickers of one party was "accidentaly" parked in front of the election office. Ppl called the cops, and the car was unceremoniously towed away, while the owner, who happened to be a candidate received a hefty fine (8k euros iirc) and was stricken from the voting rolls. All media outlets have to give every party equal time, in an equal setting. So no channel can just prop up one candidate and attack the others. Attack adds are also forbidden. Apart from that, voting is a duty here, not just a right, and we manage to get every adult over 18 to vote within a timespan of 8 hours, a long waiting time here at the voting station is 15 minutes. Voting day is also a day off, so that everyone can vote, those with jobs that don't allow a day off must get a break time to go vote. And if that's not possible they can deputise someone to vote for them, both ppl need to request this together at town hall, and must prove that they are not able to vote themselves. Or they must be part of a group that has an exemption rule like eg students who have exams the next day, it's why i once had my brother vote for me. America must be exhausting, every other year is a year full of non stop political campaigns. 1 year off, then midterms, one year off, then presidentials, etc etc... Srsly, who the fk wants that? The start for getting to sanity in the US is the complete abolishment of citizens united. As long as that stands, corruption is essentialy legal, and the government will not work for the citizens.

It's insane to me that people in positions to create economy-wide risk can run their businesses into the ground and MAKE money by selling stock before the collapse, seemingly without penalty. At the very least, seizing all of their assets to offset the cost seems like a no-brainer, and personally, I feel good about bringing back the guillotine to send a message to others in similar positions.

The bank didn't just "lose" all their money hahaha. They weren't liquid. Bonds bought at much lower interest rates to park money years ago aren't able to be sold to anyone. Why buy a 1.5% from SVB when you can buy a 4.5% from the Treasury? Screwing their ability to raise capital. That's part of it at least
