I notice a lot of awkward moments when Mayim does a segment. This is because she is so intelligent and she can outmatch or our banter the host, and the American audiences are too shallow and slow to understand it. It’s really ridiculous because she is such an amazing and wonderful person, but she’s perceived as awkward because her intellect goes over the majority of simpletons who watch her interviews.
@kurtsudheim825
@kurtsudheim825 Жыл бұрын
Intelligence & sense of humour are linked in certain areas, but not necessarily always together. In fact it's often the opposite as humour is a more social thing. & what does being shallow have to do with anything?
@Padraigp
@Padraigp Жыл бұрын
@@kurtsudheim825 so usually, however intellegent a guest is, the pattern of these talk shows is very shallow ...very surface.... when a guest doesnt just follow the superficial banter pattern ..that can come across as akward ...just the same as people you meet at a bus stop they say hi how are you you say how are you lovely weather isnt yes its turned very cold but nice to see the stretch coming in still better get the fire in ..back and forth as a superficial script which most people follow. If someone says hi how are you and you say well im really feeling the expansiveness of things i feel very grounded how are you? The going off script from the superfluous expected patter is a bit awkward. And so youre correct that intellgent people can also be bad at the social especially the socially superficial meaningless chatter. These shows are known for that chatter and shallowness. Shes going into actual answers which is making the audience awkward. Because she is smart and also not just smart but not up for the usual pattern of banter.

I have no problem with those two co existing as long as people understand that those are not equal ways of describing our universe or answering questions. Like when there are real questions and real problems we have to solve and answer them with scientifically provable facts. People have to understand that it's not like a 50/50 thing that there exists a good - " either he(/she) does or he(/she) doesn't". That's just bullshit, we have literally tested e.g. the special theory of relativity thousands of times and it worked every time, perfectly! But to this day I haven't seen one conclusive proof that there is a good. And you're going and saying "but we haven't disproven a god either". Yeah that's true, but in science(and in fact in our day to day lives either) it doesn't work that way. We don't believe something until it is proven!

Reg. the „unicorn“ in the bible- debate: Don’t forget the many translations from languages who are very different from English. Many things has been already changed so much through translation that their meaning became distorted. Please read this: „The original Hebrew word basically means “beast with a horn.” One possible interpretation is the rhinoceros. But since the Hebrew tow’apaha in Numbers 23:22 refers to more than one horn, it’s likely the translators of the Septuagint used creative license to infer a wild and powerful, but recognizable animal for their versions. The re’em is believed to refer to aurochs or urus, large cattle which roamed Europe and Asia in ancient times. Aurochs stood over six feet tall and were the ancestors of domestic cattle. They became extinct in the 1600s. In the Bible, the “wild ox” usually refers to someone with great power. In Numbers 23:22 and 24:8, God compares His own strength to that of a wild ox. In Psalm 22:21, David imagines his enemies as wild oxen. The bull represented several different deities including Baal, Moloch, and the Egyptian Apis. The Israelites tried to adopt these beliefs when they made the golden calf. Whether the re’em refers to a rhinocerous, or an auroch, or some other horned animal, the image is the same-that of an untamable, ferocious, powerful, wild animal. What we do know is that the Bible is not referring to the mythological “unicorn,” the horse-with-a-horn creature of fairy tales and fantasy literature. It is highly unlikely that the KJV translators believed in the mythological unicorn. Rather, they simply used the Latin term that described a “beast with a horn.”

I'm an lsraeli Jew. My son's name is Re'em. It's oryx (the animal) in English. Because it has straight horns, when you look at it from one side, it looks like it has one horn (unicorn). It represents the power of god the power of the Israelites. About the Nefilim- they were giants who were semi human and semi angels. About our souls at Mount. Sinai- I've never heard of that. BTW, Mayim Bialik's distant relative is H.N. Bialik, the Israeli national poet. Main streets in Israel are named after him.

The nephilm literally means fallen ones. This is what typically gets interpreted as the fallen angels, but there's no specific textual explanation for them.

Saying that all Jewish souls were at Mt. Sinai is like saying that the souls of all pot-heads and acid freaks were at Woodstock. It's true in a kind of symbolic, connecting-with-my-people way, but not literally.

I don't want to force it, but sometimes believing in the possible beyond the known can screw up people's ability to be clear what the known is first.

Of all the nonsense in the bible...the soul thing is one of the easy things to believe. Populating the world with one pair of people...and repopulation of the world with Noah family and how old the earth is according to the bible would be my starting points.

Glen Winstein Ummm, let's see: #1: No, not really. When you talk about the death penalty in the Bible, these are the rules: in order to be guilty as charged you need to have had two warnings about committing the act in question, and two witnesses of said act. So, rampant deviant executions? Hardly, if ever. #2: This is, generally speaking, a natural concept. There IS room for exceptions in Judaism. "Men run things"? Hardly. Men do x, women do y, but both need each other to "run things". #3: Judaism does not have the concept of "prisons". Instead, criminals were made to work off their debt through service & restriction. The "master", however, was obligated to treat the servant MUCH better than he treated himself for the duration of the servitude. There's a saying: one who gains a slave, gains a master. #4: Same as #1. Also, ONLY fellow Jews were subject to any penalties prescribed in the Torah for "religious reasons". #5: "Cherem" means "excommunication", not "holy war". Cheers.

You think that because you're focusing so hard that you can't see the forest through the trees. If you think men treat women worse today than they did 40 years ago (or even 20, for that matter) then it's obvious that you weren't around back then, and your opinion on the subject is moot. It SEEMS like all men are that way because those are the only ones in the news, and it's something the news never used to cover.

"There are no unicorns in the bible."?? Sorry to correct you, Stephen. I know you're a Bible scholar and teach Sunday school but in Numbers 23:22 and 24:8, the Bible speaks of the strength of a unicorn. Deuteronomy 33:17, Psalms 22: 21 and Psalms 92:10 speak of the unicorn’s horn. Job 39:10 and 39:10 both speak of the unicorn not tilling the earth. In Psalms 29:6, the unicorn is likened to a young calf skipping, while Isiah 34:7 mentions unicorns in the same context as bulls and bullocks.

A rhino, then. Strong, ferocious, surprisingly nimble and fast and sharing a common ancestor with equus. Even it's tail echoes that of a unicorn. It's toes can be easily mistranslated into cloven hooves. Whoever wrote the bible, knew what they were talking about.

3:19 "Whatever power greater than yourself you'd like to call it" is the exact, word-for-words, description of what, as a scientist, I've been believing into for the last few years! Being raised as Catholic, I decided that "God" (or His will) was an appropriate word to refer to such a belief in fewer words.
