I do miss those happy summer Sunkist days of uninterrupted gaming, or just laying in bed to your mom smiling and waking you up and putting your clothes on your bed as you get up and change into them and get breakfast, usually a southern treat of crispy bacon and perfectly cooked eggs. And then happily having those nice days in the pool with your family.

This song unlocked a memory I completely forgot I had. In 2007 I was 5 years old, and every day after preschool grandpa would pick me up, sometimes taking me out to play putt-putt golf. He would always turn on the radio, and this song was always bound to play, as it was a new song at the time. Grandpa really liked that song, and I remember the hook really stuck with me, even at age 5. Grandpa died later that year, and I went through my 13 years of primary and high school without hearing this song again. I almost forgot it existed; all I remembered was the melody of the hook, but no lyrics, no title and no artist. Randomly found it on a random Spotify playlist two weeks ago, and when I heard "It starts in my toes" it caused all those memories of grandpa taking me to putt-putt after preschool to flood back, out of nowhere. Thank you Colbie. Even fifteen years on, this song is having a profound impact.

It gets worse... if you had angry birds stuffed animals as a kid when this came out you are still quite young. I was probably the age you are now when this came out and it gets worse, more demanding, work, kids, marriage,bills, mortgage, you don’t get to hangout with your friends because you are all busy and you spend more time at work with co-workers you don’t like. Sometimes it’s like you don’t have a minute to hear your own thoughts and you want to yell. Then you hear songs like this one and wish you could go back in time, lay on your bed and listen to music daydreaming about the possibilities of the future and that little crush of yours... while your mum is calling you because dinner is served.

I was going to comment something similar. This song immediately brings back PTSD of my first job working at a WalMart McDonald’s, and hearing this song incessantly when having to do things like lug the giant greasy trash can to the dumpster in back, or sweeping and wiping the tables for the millionth time because there was nothing else to do. My soul crushing misery was soundtracked by this, Jason Mraz, Michael Bublé, etc. Hearing it outside of that context, I can appreciate that it’s a nice breezy pop song though. Grateful to be in a place now, ten years later, where I never have to work a job like that again.
@1ofthewizards3302 жыл бұрын
Same here for me. I was in my 20s during the 2000s and was a mid tier drug dealer. I had more money than I knew what to do with, girls, a nice car, "friends", went on nice trips and partied every weekend. I got busted in 2009 and got put on probation with one condition being that I get a job and be able to prove it to my P.O. I got a job at a local sandwich shop chain like a Subway, but with a flat top grill. I was at the lowest point in my life, with all my money gone, lost my license, girlfriend broke up with me, and my "friends" were never my friends to begin with, just a bunch of leeches after a slice of how I was living had all abandoned me. I heard this, Sara Barreiles, Snow Patrol, P!nk, and Maroon 5 over and over every day multiplying my misery. Things got much worse before they got better, but now I don't mind this song so much. The whole thing was a major humbling and learning experience for me.

*You, reading this.* If you’re going through a tough time, try to remember that you are not made up of the high expectations you think you’ll never meet, you are not made up of the words people use to hurt you, you are not made up of the number on the scale, you are made up of everything that makes you UNIQUE. Stop letting your happiness depend on others and what they may think of you. You are worth so much more than that. If you have a dream, go for it! Be confident with who you are and most importantly, don’t forget to smile! :) xo

Two days ago, I woke up in a really bad mood. I had to go to college. I got into the car and I got the car started. I turned on the radio and there is Colbie Caillat singing this song. Later, I left the class after the lecture. I went back to the car and I turned the radio on again. Colbie Caillat was singing ''Realize'' what are the odds! Colbie Caillat, you made my day!

I wasn't the biggest fan of a lot of 2000's music after growing up in the 80's and 90's, but this kinda sound was such a vibe. This is perhaps the kinda feeling I miss most from that decade cause it's probably when it was done best. Simple, warm songs that did everything right with so little effort.

This goes to my older brother.. I know it might be weird but they played this song at his 5th grade graduation and I cried because he was moving up to middle school and i was still in elementary. And one night I spent the night at my cousins house and she had this song on her ipod. I cried myself to sleep while she was already sleeping because I missed him and realized how close we are. I'm crying right now because he's going to college and im still in high school and I'm so proud of him and i trust him with my whole life. We would never admit it as siblings but he is my best friend. and I love him more than anyone and I look up to him so much. Have fun in college big bro... and always know that you make me smile. wherever you go. I love you.

One of my favorite things about growing up and being more aware of a fully developed frontal lobe, is the new perspectives of old music that triggers nostalgia. Some of the memories that flood back arent the best, but then some are beautifully blissfull. I get to listen, and I mean reeeally listen to the words, to the rythym, to the energy and emotion behind those notes and words. For me it sheds a new light on not only what I went thru at the time my subconcious tagged that specific song, but also about the life lessons each experience taught me. For me music is more than a beat, a few instruments and maybe some words. Sometimes it's an escape from the bustle/boredom. Sometimes its what drives the day, sets the tone, can change a mood, or even strengthen it. Its that feeling of wholesomeness when you get when you can connect with these songs and not look, but feel it as they were writing the sheet. You find common ground with the person(s) who created it, good or bad. There's a synergy in music for me, somethin that words alone will never be able to portray. It's the chills that spread from a single point on the back of your neck to the rest of your skin when a certain note or riff or block of music is played. Not because you heard it, but because you felt it. I'm a metalhead by nature, but as an adult, I appreciate all music, whether I understand it or not because one day, I might just have an experience that song can help me through, or even remind me of. That's the only thing I like about growing up. Post Script - Yall aint read'n all that but if u do, give a like if u feel the same way about music. Of any kind. P.P.S.- You aint a real man unless you listen to girly shit too. Bump some Carly Ray Jepsen ya feel?🤣
