The hole is for blind people to fast recognize the coin. And not confuse it with the ten kroner coin. same with the hole in the 5 kroner versus 20 kroner with no hole in it.

I do the same thing, exept I make sure I recieve the bill as change. I generally get my money converted at the street, and a banknote from a "foreign country" that I picked up from my bank hits different than a note I actually got IN a foreign country

Pro Danish tip get a lot of coins in different sizes, 1 dkk 2 dkk 5 dkk, get a wire tie a knot at the ende and place the coins on the wire in random order and tie a knot as clos to the other end of the coins. Now you can hit hard. Not very wide but ia still something you can swing hard.
