a lot of people don't know what they wanna do in the future, so they would take the opportunity to go into college with an undeclared major, some with a little more favor towards one area. then they go in with a core curriculum, which helps them explore different areas as well. many even switch majors during their sophomore or junior year. I'm one of those who don't have one thing that we particularly love, but we explore along the way.

Unrelated but I absolutely hate when news and people speak of aspiring politicians and say “They are a Yale graduate “ but they stop there, and expect everyone to be in awe and vote for them cause they finished Yale. As if it doesnt matter if their field was any relevant to their desired position.I would trust a modest university graduate in law and economics as an economy minister rather than an economy minister with an engineering degree from Harvard. Also, premed should not matter. Because I think too many people care about that tiny B.S. degree…

9-10 hours as a freshman is insane. i have a 4.0 and i’m in HS and i don’t even study that much in a week. about your point on IVY leagues, people only care about IVY schools for the prestige and how it makes you look on paper, as well as the insane connections you can get being surrounded by rich and highly educated people. it definitely has its benefits, but besides that, there’s no difference than a regular uni.

who says they're paying an arm and a leg? fin aid at ivies is really good - if your family makes under 70k a year you're guaranteed a free ride
@CameronGraham-of7tc Жыл бұрын
@@grass666 I don't think you understand what you just said. Do you know how financial aid works? You eventually have to pay the loan back lol. Looking at their website, 2022-2023 averages around $80,000. Multiply that by the number of years you're there. And no, you're not "guaranteed" a "free ride" if your parents make under 70k a year. Not only do you have to pay financial aid back, but you're also paying interest on that loan. Regardless if you're able to secure work-study, scholarships, or grants, that amount paying for the degree is still significant. But the money wasn't even my point in the comment; it's getting a degree you can get anywhere for significantly cheaper. At that point, he's just paying for the degree to have "Yale" on it, which means his parents probably do make above the income you stated, at 70k. I'm assuming you're still in high school; I'm glad I can give you some insight into how financial aid works.
@grass666 Жыл бұрын
@@CameronGraham-of7tc lmfao no. I actually go to Yale. please look at an ivy league uni website, they are very proud of their generous financial aid policy and plaster it everywhere. these schools have endowments of BILLIONS of dollars, they are fully capable of paying tuition for their low income students, so they do. my family makes 25k a year and i have a FAFSA expected family contribution of 0, so yale pays for my housing, meal plan, and tuition. no loans.
@grass666 Жыл бұрын
@@CameronGraham-of7tc these policies were instituted relatively recently though, like within the past 10 years or so, so I can understand why you might not know this if you're on the older side and don't know any college aged kids looking at prestigious universities. fyi other liberal arts universities besides ivies are following suit - i was able to apply to schools like Swarthmore, Vassar, and Barnard as well because they similarly cover full tuition and room & board for their low-income students
