I’m now at high risk of a CV event based on coronary calcium score and high Lp(a), so I’ve started taking colchicine 0.5, which is OTC where I live. A doctor had me add aspirin, which I have reluctantly. I have no symptoms. My lipids are not abnormal, so no statin. Time will tell. I can’t drink a beer now without feeling horrible.

Thanks for this informative “lecture” on colchicine which you made simple and easy to understand - especially with regards to dosage. Surprised to know that it has an impact on cardiac issues. Much appreciated. Now on to listen to your other “lecturers”.... and glean more info.

Impressed by the drug, but you are quoting relative risk reduction rather than the absolute risk reduction. Death was 0.8% in the Colchicine group compared to 1.0% in the placebo. An absolute risk reduction of 0.2%.
@nicmart2 ай бұрын
Exactly. You rarely hear of absolute risk because drug companies and docs are impressed by relative risk.

Colchicine after 3 tablets for severe attack of gout within 12 hours caused extremely severe diarrhoea. Really really unpleasant. Up all night, could not believe the body contained so much fluid. Stopped colchicine as had no effect on gout attack. Took 180mg of Arcoxia, immediate improvement in reducing gout related pain and swelling.

Thanks Wellnowdoctor for a very informative video! I was prescribed by my rheumatologist .6 mg a day permanently and I have non alcoholic fatty liver disease, and my creat and urine albumin haven't been good either but in March my egfr was 88 but usually around 50 if I remember correctly. Is that an incorrect prescription? I also take allopurinol 400 mg a day. I'm 68 and have had gout attacks so it is for my gout and a 12 day prednisone taper to take when I feel gout starting. I had a cardiac and carotid cat scan in about 2017 and the carotids about in 2019 that showed all arteries clear I think with my being vegetarian for 32 years. Should I stop colchicine? On 6-24-22 I started the carnivore diet at 280lbs and so far 90 days later lost 17 lbs at 263 lbs and hope to lose 100. I had my first gout attack while on carnivore diet 3 days ago. I had eaten ground beef and now switched to just chicken. Does chicken count as "red meat" and contribute to gout? Also pork is not red meat but would rather not eat pork if I don't have to for reasons similar to I think why Jewish people don't eat it.

United States loves to make money
@MrBlister8082 жыл бұрын
It's because of the deal the Australian government made with Big Pharma to secure the medicine for the national Healthcare system here. Americans are forced to by the 'reformulated' version which costs a fortune, and the old formulation has been taken off the shelf Iike the good doctor here has said. I know this from personal experience, and with speaking with both doctors and pharmacist while over there with a gout attack. I had good insurance, but because I went to Intensive Care, was charged $20 USD for three, that's 3, pills! A year prior I bought a bottle of 30 pills for less than $6 AUD while living in Aus! Us Americans get fleeced for health care...it's ridiculous.

Why is the medication $200 for 20 tablets
@krubbek51353 жыл бұрын
Because of the drug companies know people with gout will pay for it. in europe I pay 5 euros for 20 tablets without insurance. the US has the worst healthcare system in the world. Colchicine actually predates the FDA and was before 1961 sold over the counter and cost only pennies.
