She offered herself to him to save her baby! Wow that scene is powerful!

A lot of women back then knew how to use a gun and wasn't afraid to use it. It was a way to protect yourself, family and hunt for food. Since she was alone in the woods I'm sure she knew how to use a gun.

This part was very sad and suspenseful when I saw it in theaters. Very emotional. The beginning of the movie "Battle of the Crater" was probably more emotional for some people.

She did the right thing . What do you think would have happened when the young yank got back to his command without his buddies ? Right , the whole regiment would be down on her .

He probably would have been shot as a deserter anyway because he has no uniform on or someone else would have shot him just for being a naked yankee . His odds of making it back to his command was low . She did the right thing anyway. She took no chances.

And if you thought that was dark, in the deleted scene the baby dies of freezing and she kills herself, knowing she got no more food and probably no more will to live after her baby boy froze to death. ...

psh. does she look like she or her family ever had slaves? didnt think so. this kind of shit is horrible n to say "o yeah well the south did this to slaves" is belittling to all the people who didnt have shit to do with slavery. Slaves, free women, it doesnt matter. don't say "well, this happened to so and so" because that's belittling each incident. plus, lumping everyone all together is pure ignorant.

so in the story line....would these yanks have been deserters. They had no food, there was only 3 of them. I'm thinking they were AWOL

@George Washington I wouldn't have shot him but he most likely would have reported this incident to his command unless he was a deserter. She had no way of knowing what actions he would have taken.

If your talking about the last guy Sara kills? Then he deserved it for the crime of bystander effect. Personally the punishment for bystander effect should be the removal of their eyes, ears and tongue. Tattoo on their chest “because I stood by and did nothing while a crime was being committed I lost my eyes, ear and tongue”
@orlandobabe2 жыл бұрын
@Star 98 do you like fire? You must love standing by and watching a house on. Do you love watching car wrecks? Do you love public execution? Think long and hard about these questions and while you are thinking look up the cases such as Kitty Genovese, Jane Doe of Richmond High, Raymond Zack, Jane Doe of Philadelphia. Ever seen the accused? Movie based on a true story about a young mother being gang raped on a pool table with people clapping and cheering some just stood by and watched. This is called criminal solicitation and bystanders effect should be made into a crime if a person was too scared chicken shit to run off and get help or even muscle up and help then they are just as guilty as the MFers who committed the crime. As for that tired, hungry and war influenced soldier he is guilty of cowardice.

She did what she had to do. He would gone and got more soldiers and told them were she was with a confederate soldier inside her house. Life was rough back then...Like it is now, almost. If the US and government doesn't straighten up. Times like those will come back.
