Thanks so much Tracy. I actually poured them so they would be the right height, I did them 3cm I think, so that would allow a little planing and still get a 2.5cm bar at least.

I saw a comment once that said how soap curls add an easy design to soap. I responded how difficult they are to make. I had such a hard time getting mine the same thickness all the way through. You made it look easy. 😁
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap 4 жыл бұрын
I agree, they can be tricky if your soap batter won't curl, but gelling and not adding sodium lactate helps. Also having the curl bar only as thick as your curling tool is really helpful too. Then it's just a case of even pressure as you curl. Sometime you do have to play around with when you start to curl, if your bar's too soft they can just stick and squidge up. Sometimes turning over the bar and curling from the other side helps if you're getting further in and it's a little softer than you'd like. But I do agree they can sometimes be tricky.
@JandWSoaps
@JandWSoaps 4 жыл бұрын
I Dream In Soap I had a hard time applying even pressure to the peeler to make the curl the same thickness all the way down. I finally used a mandolin slicer to get a consistent strip to curl.

I discovered you tonight. Your tutoriels are far the best I saw . I started 3 months ago, and made 10 soaps...some worked out fine, but I had problems with acceleration quite often. All the questions I had, about trace, acceleration Ith certain EO , temperature, emulsion. micas , titanium etc etc...you answered them all. wouw. And thank you. Until now I created every soap I made, with different oils , butters and essential oils...colours...so of course it is always a suprise even when I am just making it...lol. Last try was with milk and honey, lye with fresh cowmilk... next will be vanilla wirh goatmilkk or donkey... it's'really exciting to do. I plan a rastafari soap to bring to Barbados to my friends there.. with hemp ouil, lol of course, coconut cream and ylang ylang...and rastafari colours... Thank tou so much for all your advices. XOX from south of France... ulli

Another lovely soap - as usual! All your soaps are lovely. Don't you ever have failures like the rest of us? I have a silly question to ask you if I may: where do you buy your cling film? I have never seen one in the UK like that.... Mine always tears badly on the cardboard teeth.
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nicole. Thank you so much. I must admit I don't tend to get many fails, but I think that's because I'm an obsessive planner and tester. For the cling film, I think the box is the key, it wasn't cheap, but I've had mine for about 4 years and it's still going strong, no sign at all of it looking any worse than when I bought it. It was this (I think the pattern on mine's different) www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00GB95P54/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I then refill it using these, they're not made for it but work really well. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00237PWO2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hahhahahahaha the cat in the box 😂😂😂 I had to cat years and years and years ago with my very first boyfriend in our very first apartment and both of the cats loved to get inside of boxes or they would sit on top of pizza boxes ...usually I would stack the one or two pizza boxes on the chair next to the door to be taken out to recycling and sure enough one or both would sit up their like kings of the mountain 🏔 I really enjoy your channel very very very much. I enjoy you and your personality I think you are so funny first of all and your creativity is through the roof!! I’m really interested in trying my hand at cold process soap and I have so many ideas swirling around in my head but I’m still very nervous. I guess I’m more nervous as to how much supplies I should buy and what molds would be best to use and how much colorant to buy and it gets even more confusing because everything that you can buy along those lines comes in many different sizes. Do you have any advice for someone wanting to get started like me? I tend to bite off more than I can chew when I start a new project and whether it turns into something I can sell later down the road we will cross that bridge when we get there I just don’t know where to start

He, he hey Amber thank you for your lovely comment. If you like cats you should watch my 'Pussycat Stars' video. OK starting off, it can be so easy to get carried away. I would advise just buying a simple cheap mold 1st of all. the ones with the silicone lines in a wooden box are great, just a cheap one, should be somewhere between $10 - $20 (I'm presuming you're in the US' Read reviews for fragrances and pick something that's going to behave. Something like Black raspberry vanilla or love spell, they tend to be pretty reliable and smell great too. You just need a few micsa, some companies will do little selection packs where you get quite a few small tester pots. Mind you for your 1st soap you don't need any colours, a plain soap is great, or if you have cocoa powder, adding some of that to part of your oils will give you a lovely swirl. Just take your time. Stay safe and well :-)

I Dream In Soap Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! And I’ve already watched the pussycat stars video several times but that’s great advice and I really appreciate it and I can’t wait to get started. I think for ease of mind for my first girl I’m going to get a kit from Brambleberry it comes with everything I need including a loaf and the Mika’s and the fragrance and it even comes with all the utilities I need like pitchers and mixing tools and a stick blender and even a scale. Whether or not I choose to do the actual design on my first try will have to see I think your idea of a very basic soap for my first go is better advice! But at least I’ll have everything I need for the next time I make or attempt a batch again thank you so much for taking the time to give me advice and Can’t wait to see what more do you have in store for 2020

Just a curiosity question. What would happen if you slowly poured the white batter from a jug over a spatula to fill in all the spaces? Mind you, I haven't even an inkling of your skill, so I haven't tried this technique. I was just wondering if you had tried this already? :)
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tami, you certainly could use a jug, I wouldn't worry about a spatula. The only reason I use a bottle is you want the stream of batter nice and thin, if you pour your batter and the stream covers a wider area you are risking trapping in air bubbles, which if your batter is nice and fluid could be banged out.

Lisa... These are so so pretty! Wonderful work! I just love the final result 😊 So, putting soap in the oven just makes the soap gel, or does it also hurry the curing process? Thank you for showing your lovely techniques and sharing helpful tips 💕 -Shonna
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Shonna, thanks so much. yes putting in the oven (heated to 170f and then turned off when the soap goes in) helps to force gel. It's handy when you use a water discount as less water means your soap doesn't get as warm and therefore is more difficult to get to gel. If you soap at full water or nearly full water you soap is quite likely to just gel on its own if you wrap it in a towel. Gelling your soap will makes the bar initially a bit harder and easier to get out of the mould but it won't shorten the cure time at all (sadly). It also tends to make the colours in your soaps brighter.

If I have only have one 42 ounce mold can I stick it in the oven at 175 degrees Fahrenheit or should I reduce the heat a little?
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes any mold should be fine, you are only heating the oven very low. The oven is not on when the soap is in there, you turn it off as you put the soap in.

Hi Reem. I'm afraid that's the one thing I don't really just want to post openly I'm afraid. I really hate saying no, but I spent a lot of time and money getting it how I like it. To be honest though I really think a lot of it has to do with how well you spot emulsion and therefore don't blend too much and temperature, you can have the slowest recipe, but if you don't manage those elements it will still move quickly. However, I will try to give you some tips so you can maybe change your recipe a bit. Try not to have too many hard oils and butters, I find it's better to keep an eye on your saturated : unsaturated fat ratio rather than just hard vs liquid oils, you will find it on the top right hand side when you view a recipe in Soapcalc, Mine is 41:59. If you don't mind using lard (it makes excellent soap) that will trace very slowly, also make sure you use olive oil, rather than pomace olive oil. Temperature is also a big factor, you may need to play around a bit until you find the best range, do you soap cool, either at room temperature or say between 80-90 degrees. Butters, like cocoa butter and Shea butter etc will accelerate, so will castor oil, so use those sparingly. I hope this helps a bit, Best wishes. Lisa

This is so pretty and very effective! Love it. I have a couple of questions...what’s the difference between using an acrylic mould vs silicon mould. I’m still at lining with greaseproof paper stage, it wondering whether to invest in an acrylic mould...or make some silicon ones. Also, where did you buy your planer please? Thanks for sharing the video and technique. 💕
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Hilary. I use an acrylic mould a lot and I love it, I don't own an acrylic slab mould though. For a slab mould I think an acrylic mould would be fairly difficult to unmould as the large volume of soap on the base, would make it tricky to get off. If I had one I would probably just line the very bottom, but leave the sides as they are. I never line my acrylic loaf mould and it always unmould fine, but does take quite a bit of pushing to get the bottom off. I like both the silicone and acrylic but for a loaf mould I always go for my acrylic one 1st. I got my planer from Ebay, they're also on Etsy. If you're in the US you should be able to get one, the chap I got mine from doesn't seem to be shipping to the UK any more. Oh gosh, just gone to look on Etsy and he's not even on there any more :-(

Thanks Lisa, I’m in the UK and just starting my soaping journey. It seems as if soaping supplies are so hard to come by at affordable prices here. Another ‘to make’ project. I’m afraid I just don’t like buying things if you can make them yourself 😉. My cruelty soap mould is a homemade one, which is now starting to warp a bit, but that’s ok 😁. Xx
