I was a vendor at the body, mind, and spirit EXPO this past week in Loveland Colorado. I brought a long my Tussah Silk to show my shoppers. Everybody absolutely loved that the stuff they took home had Tussah Silk. Folks that bought a few bars on Saturday came back Sunday for more. Thank you Ellen Ruth pro tips!

Just a wee note: Table salts contain anti caking agents - more often than not it’s aluminium 😮. Preferably use a Sea Salt 😊 Table Salt is basically an industrial by product. It’s had all the many minerals and amino acids stripped from it.

Beautiful again ❤ yes same problem here with discontinued oils that are fabulous! I think possibly they make a choice to get rid of scents that don't sell as good as others & it's unfortunate. That happened to me with one of my all time favorite scents from bramble Berry called green smoothie. I guess we win some , we lose some ❤ always enjoy the videos Ellen ❤

I'm a relatively new soaper and for me it's just a hobby. I'm curious about your use of clays as I've only used them once as of now. How do you figure the quantity to use? I love tallow. So far I've only used coconut oil and tallow in every one of my soaps. I may experiment with the olive oil and play around with the quantities of each. I also use sodium lactate and sodium gluconate in every batch as well as 5% castor oil. I'm currently experimenting with the clays. I love watching your videos. You do a great job. Thanks for caring and sharing.

Love your work! You are so talented! My favorite soaper to watch on KZbin ❤ I would love to see this same design idea, but with the actual “obnoxious” yellow color (lol) and black. Do a bumblebee design. Little bees and honeycombs for frosting. It would be adorable. For a Beetlejuice bar, the swirly part should be done in a lime green and white swirl on the black and white stripes. This one with all the grays definitely gives off a classy, masculine vibe. I would stick with the Shades of Gray or Tuxedo name for it. Just my .02 😊

Hello Ellen! I look forward to your videos and I have made many of your products and love them all! For this particular recipe, I entered in the amounts into the soapcalc, but I am wondering why the water/lye ratio doesn't match up? If I use your recipe and use 13.4oz lye and 24oz water, but the soapcalc tells me to use 36.48 water and 13.35 for the lye. Everything else matches up. Can you help me out with this one?
@EllenRuthSoap
@EllenRuthSoap 15 күн бұрын
I like to work with a steep water discount, both volumes of water will work. And for the lye, the .35 and .4 are very close, it will effect the super fat % just a bit.

Hi Ellen I watch your videos and enjoy learning from them. I have been working on my craft in soap making and came across a fragrance oil that I loved and noted that it had high 5% rate of vanillin in it. When I used the oil it mixed well with no ricing or acceleration. But when I added my colorants (mica’s) and titanium oxide the colors began to change after the loaf settled and processed over time. The colors were red,green, and white. But the colors became a dark green,orange and yellow instead. Any recommendations on what to do with fragrance oils high in vanillin with soap making? Sorry for the question.

I've learned to embrace the discoloration. I've not had luck with vanillin stabilizers, and anything with more than 1% is going to discolor..

If you change an oil in a CP recipe, you'll need to run the numbers thru soap calc to make sure your lye ratio is correct.

I lost your response to a question I asked a while back. TD solution is mixed at a rate of 2 parts water to one part TD. Is that by measure or weight?

Tussah Silk. I gave up using it because it absolutely would not dissolve in my lye water no matter how much I stirred or cut into tiny pieces. Now I am wondering if it was the brand...Can you recommend one that doesn't have the seeds? I can see your TS does dissolve. Hmmmm, and I have almost a full bag.

Oh, that sounds frustrating.. My silk does have some natural bits in it, but it does dissolve. I got it on Amazon. When I run out, I'm going to use mulberry silk as it seems a bit smoother and finer.

I know I ordered the wrong kind of silk (Ebay) when reviewing it and it was for spinning, not soaping. Duh! Just now ordered Tussah on Amazon with great reviews from soapers - again, duh. Ever onward.

Hello sunshine if i replace the tallow for lard will soap cal adjust the recipe? Ill be using soap cal for the first time.
@EllenRuthSoap
@EllenRuthSoap 9 ай бұрын
Yes, just plug the numbers into a good soap calc (with the lard as a sub), and you'll get the correct lye amount.
