I Dream In Soap

Күн бұрын

This cold process soap was the 1st soap I had planned for the February 2023 Soap Challenge, 'Colouring soap naturally' It didn't go as planned, so see how I decided on a change of plan to hopefully come up with something that wasn't too bad.

Although my cold process soap making tutorials are of a tutorial nature, they are intended for people who have a good understanding of making cold process soap. The information given is based on what works for me, however, there are lots of variables associated with cold process soap making and I therefore, take no responsibility for the results achieved when using the techniques or methods explained in these tutorials. Cold process soap involves the necessary use of sodium Hydroxide (lye) which is a very dangerous substance. Before attempting and cold process soap making you should ensure you are fully aware of the lye safety procedures and always wear the correct safety equipment when making soap.

Oh my, that batter certainly accelerated! I do like the ribbons in the soap, they remind me of an afghan my dear grandmother crocheted for me back in the 70's so yes, the impromptu soap bars are a hit! I also like the trees. I am a sucker for a rustic look. I think they are all beautiful.

What detail on the trees. So much work I love them. Amazing save. Your lye oil ratio must have dropped with all the olive oil in the colors. Super cool wavy sosp
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Lynda, the lye ration was higher when I mixed my base, but by the time I added to my infusions it would have been the same as normal. I think I just over blended it as it was quite cold that day and I wanted to make sure it was properly emulsified.

Aww loved both of them, also your perseverance. I have two questions 1. Why do you think the batter accelerated. 2. How did u make the indigo look like ultramarine blue?
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap Жыл бұрын
Thanks Joya, I think I just blended my batter too much, it had been fine when I did my samples and it was quite cold in my studio, so I was a blended a bit more than I would normally to make sure everything emulsified. I don't think I do anything special, I do infuse my indigo in oil for a good long time. I had someone else think it was ultramarine blue, but it's definitely indigo I have all the safety data sheets and certificates of analysis for it.

Well, leave it to you to have a soap go haywire and then pull out a fantastic design! I really do love them both and those tree soaps turned out splendid! I unfortunately can't use anything with mint in it. I get an instant headache just from the smell. I don't know why. Maybe I ate too many candy canes as a small child and now I have an aversion to mint? 🤔 Anyways, FANTASTIC job per usual Lisa!! 💛💛💛💛💛

Hi Kelsey. I use Indigo tinctoria. I get mine from The Soap Kitchen in the UK. I do know that it is Indigo Tinctoria as I have all of the safety data sheets and certificate of analysis for it. I'm not sure where you are located, here in the UK it's really difficult to get Indigo passed through our safety assessments and they will only allow certain ones, so maybe they are prepared differently (I honestly don't know). It's similar with some other natural colours, we can really struggle to get some colours allowed, especially if they're from the root of a plant rather than the leaf

It could be anything, lack of humidity in the air, room temperature too low, some fragrances or additives accelerate the hardening process, too much mixing, or maybe she wasn't fast enough adding the lye heavy batter to the colored solutions. Soap making is a gamble sometimes! 😅😅😅
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap Жыл бұрын
Hey Leslie, I think I was just a bit careless with my blending. It was quite a cold day and I was using my mini mixer, there can be a risk that with those you don't get things emulsified properly, so with that and the cooler temperature I think I over did it and blended too much. When I redid it later that day I was just more careful with my blending and it was all fine

Hi Lisa, like other comments below, I'd love to know which indigo you use. Traditional indigo powder wouldn't ever give this bright blue as far I know. There are chemically treated Indigo preps which can so I'd just like to know what you use. Thanks

Oh sweet Lisa, what for you is a failed soap, for us mere mortals are great soaps we would have been very happy to have made ourselves🤗 as I use mostly natural colours, I know how difficult it is to get fluid soaps, they trace so fast! I love the tree soaps, I find they came out perfect, and as for the 'rescued' one, only you could have gotten a pretty soap out of it. Mine would have been blobs on blobs😅 thank you for showing us a great way to use overthick batter 🙏❤️
