I've been wanting to see how well the Hercules in my White 2-155 tractor will cold start since I rebuilt it with the high compression pistons last year. I figured might as well have something for comparison, so I did a cold start with the 6125 with its 5.9L Cummins engine. Will they start? Which one starts better? Watch to find out.

Nothing sounds any better than to hear that 155 fire up on a cold morning in my book in one of the best tractors ever built we farmed around 700 acres or more in the 70,s80,s in central michigan when dad bought our 2--105 with a 6bottom plow and a 24field cuiltvator It change our life over nite we had been using a 25year old 930case and we continued to use it but know with two tractors plowing it really helped thanks for the good old memories

Typically our 505's (White 185 and Case/IH 2188) roll over 3X and are running. Some times it takes a little more. They are the best cold start engines we have. The JD 4230 doesn't like cold. Anything much below 40 you're best plug it in and go do something else for an hour or so. Or you're going to have to give it a snort. I really like the sound of the 2-155. Those military pistons must make a huge difference. (Your best series of vids BTW in MPO) We had two 2-155's (Series I and III) they needed help in the cold. Good old tractors. Thanks Chris great vids!

Correct my understanding on the White numbering system, isn't the 2-155 supposed to stand for 2wd 155hp? If this is correct, isn't the numbering wrong? At least it started, my old JD3010 would've taken the battery charger, block heater plugged in over night, about 20mins of cranking with several shots of starting fluid. Yea, we learned when we started our older tractors, we let them run, they'd recharge their batteries better having to use the battery charger to do it. Great cold starts, cheers :)

The 2 is a row crop or fixed frame tractor. If it has a 4 it's articulated, steers by pivoting in the middle, and can only be 4 wheel drive. Most of the tractors that started with a 2 had power front axle as an option, but it could be turned off, mainly for road speeds.

Hercules took a bit longer than I thought it would take. Crank speed was down a little. Now is that the result of the compression, or the batteries? Hard to say, but I think it is perfectly acceptable. Cummins likes a bit of throttle after they fire. Depending on the injection pump some like to be cracked open a little before cranking. Both sounded good to me.

@ShainAndrews 2 жыл бұрын
@@999pr1 Chris can probably speak towards that better than I. If your other diesel equipment is not having the same issues and the filter is not packed with crud already. I'd be curious if there is any sort of lift pump in line before the injection pump. If there is a person could measure its pressure. Low pressure when dead heading could indicate the pump is problematic.
