I've spent a good portion of my life on White and Oliver tractors, and although they're not comfortable, they're real workhorses.

Great video and great tractors. Although I've never seen someone pull a disc chisel or disc that fast before lol.

That short wheel base makes it a rough riding pos. The key to productivity is being comfortable. John Deere figured that out. That’s how they survived. When you spend that much time in something you need comfort.

I remember my neighbor had a white and I ran it sometimes. The clutch was worn. The shift linkage was worn. You have to stall the tractor to get it in gear. The engine wouldn't hold oil pressure at idle. The hydraulic system was slow as fuck. But it did the job like that for many years hahaha But that's all I remember

+Oliver66FarmBoy It was in a box of other VHS tapes at a dealer liquidation auction, unfortunately it was mostly New Idea and White Outdoor videos, but it was worth it just to get this video and the one on the White American 60/80 that I posted as well.

5.9l cummins engine were engineered in Melthan England by David Brown engineers they were actually called a DCD engine which stood for consolidated diesel corperation a merger between Cummins , Case and I can't remember the 3rd engine manufacturer Tenneco had controlling interest in . The Cummins name was going to be removed ,however when the 5.9 was introduced into the Dodge trucks the Cummins name took off like a rocket so they dropped the CDC name instead . We had a white colored 1896 and it had CDC stamped into the engine block as did the 5130 Maxxum . That said I still love the looks of those old Whites . Sad to see so many great tractor manufactures go down the drain . Then again it was bound to happen when you see all the empty barns down every country road . Just glad to see some people hanging onto these old work horses

Great find and post!! Just sad that White is the reason there is no Oliver. But you could still see Oliver in these models. Just look at that "cast iron frame" still the old Oliver bathtub.

The Whites and pre 86 series inters and most of the older tractors have the seat over the rear axle ,it was easier to see the drawbar pin, I also found them smoother riding over rough ground,just my two cents worth.

+South Texas tractor guy Very hard to find. I came across this at a dealer liquidation auction in Illinois about a month ago, which was a 10-12 hour drive from home, once you factored in stopping for fuel for both the truck and the occupants. Lots of goodies there if you had the time and money to spend. Left around 3 or 4 in the afternoon and it was still going strong with the parts room inventory in one ring and the shop manuals/promotional items like banners/flags etc. in the other.

they show cummins engine form closeups but the sound is from the old Perkins. I guess they messed up with the sound so they added in Perkins sound

4:50, imagine if they put Super-Steer on the front axle of that model 160, that would've made that turning radius even smaller! though super steer wasn't even a thing in the late 80's, hell it didn't even come out till mid 90's lol
@charliemccahill2131 Жыл бұрын
Supersteer came out in 93 or 94

I have a serious question, My family owns a white 100 tractor with no front assist and we would like to know how much we could get on it since I haven't been able to find anything about them online, any help would be nice thanks
@oliverpuller16556 жыл бұрын
They had the 5.9 Cummins engine, and there is a ton of info out there on that engine.

160 and 185 look awfully unstable with the short wheelbase and long overhang, with the driver allmost behind the rear axle... ???
@DonGregers6 жыл бұрын
whats the idea behind this tractor=? is the shorter wheel base great? Not a pretty one to look at. :D
@oliverpuller16556 жыл бұрын
Shorter wheelbase was for turning purposes, particularly on the end of a row. Powered front axles can't turn as short as a conventional two wheel drive tractor, so to make up the difference, the wheelbase is shortened. New Holland had a solution to this in the late 90s called SuperSteer, which was a FWD axle, but at the end of the turning travel, the entire axle would twist, giving a sharper turn but without shortening the wheelbase, so ride quality was improved.
@DonGregers6 жыл бұрын
Thx for answer :D I was of the understanding that the tractor was from america. Everything is bigger in USA so thought they whould focus more on steady ride on the trip back an forth :D
@oliverpuller16556 жыл бұрын
I can’t make any claims to the ride quality of these White 100 series tractors, since I’ve never driven one. It was more of a general rule when considering wheelbase length.
@daw1625 жыл бұрын
Don, we've had some short wheelbase tractors here, some with the rider right over the rear axle, too. Helps the tractor turn shorter, but roughs the driver up, too.
