I have owned the Cold Steel Dragonfly Wakizashi (s71.co/3eH4LPc) for about 10 years. Recently, a viewer asked how it is holding up? Is it still sharp? Does it still thirst for the blood of innocents? In this video, I go beast mode on a water jug. Then I discuss where this sword fits in, price-wise, in today’s very competitive sword market. There is a list of less expensive sword options below the video. Enjoy! :]

Would you consider placing new ito wrap and a new kashira on the wakizashi? The white grip tape might make an acceptable samé. Since you’ve had the sword for such a long time it would be neat to see you do a restoration of the original issues (loose ito, etc).

The Wakizashi is my favorite Japanese blade of the sword type, the Katana is king with most folks but I prefer the shorter Wakizashi over the Katana. So I'm going to need to check out those links 🎯⚔️🎯

I definitely like the wakizashi a lot as well but my favorite differs considering the context. If on the battle field I’d rather have a yari and tantō combo. If I were in a town or at court I’d definitely want a wakizashi. 😅but since I’m not a real samurai I don’t have to seriously worry about it and can just like them all

Just curious, did you replace the handle wrap out of necessity (because it loosened and was a frustrating mess) or out of no concern whatsoever for the original design, because you wanted more tactical ease of use? I've heard a lot of stories about the wrap coming off and not being worth the trouble to re-wrap, as designed. It would be nice to learn whether or not it's actually more durable than some give it credit for, and this was purely a tactical choice. Excellent video, few out there have really given some presence and thought about this shorter handle waki from CS, and I'm glad to see such attention to detail and active demonstation.

I would use a ceramic rod from my Spyderco Sharpmaker to touch it up by hand. But, most people who get super into sword sharpening eventually start using traditional Japanese water stones.

@ogarzabello2 жыл бұрын
That shuld be called a wakizashi "type" sword. For a sword to be called a katana or a wakizashi, it has to be made only in Japan, by a master sword maker useing traditional methods, and a particular ferroceus material called tamahagane only found in Japan, transformed into several, layered steels with different carbon concentrations, and the sword has to be blessed in a temple. And a good katana will cost more than $300 dolars, it wil cost $5,500 dollars or much more if you want something really special.
@WeAllJuggleKnives2 жыл бұрын
I'm not too clear on Japanese law. So, this sword might well not be considered a Wakizashi according to their laws or regulations. Doesn't really matter though, unless selling it in Japan.
