The Cold Steel Finn Hawk Fixed Blade is a different twist on the knife I said was one of the best hard use folding knives I have ever tested. Let's see how it does some of the "knife stuff" and try a balance test with it. And, yes, I bought it at Help Gun Owners of America defend your right to keep and bear arms:

Late comment but, the sheath has an easy fix. The finger gard needs to be slightly cut/trimmed. Start slow on trimming the finger guard. Don't cut too much off. Hope this helps. It worked great for me. My Finn Hawk now has a perfect sheath.

Nice knife. Yes I'd say it is Cold Steel's version of a Mora. -but there are other Scandinavian companies as well. There is nothing like a Scandi grind for working with wood, IMO

Love the hawk and prefer it over mora. It's crazy I have a dozen $200-$300 knives, but my favorite ends up being a toss between this $25 finn hawk and my bk16 I paid $70 for.

The Finn bear and the Finn hawk are two scary sharp knifes . For skinning are very good I don't know if they are full Tang but they are excellent back up knife . Be aware they are super sharp out of the box.

By the way, when reviewing knives with tangs that are not fully visible, it would be helpful to show just how far into the handle they go. You can do it with a small neodymium magnet. I use that method to see where it is safe to drill a lanyard hole.

I have one of those knives. I absolutely hated the sheath. So I cut it down so I can get more then 2 fingers on the handle and then filed down the locks to make it a little easier to get the blade out. Now I love it. Its a great knife.

Thanks Bryan, I agree it is a version of the Mora. I think the folder makes more sense as something a little more different. Non the less, still looks like a good knife at a reasonable price.

I bought my Finn Hawk about a year and a half ago on eBay for about $18. I hated the sheath because it was way too tight. So I happened to find a leather one in my knife container storing a knife I rarely use. So I use that sheath for it instead and it works great.

cold steel is a master at making very budget friendly knives that perform way way far outside their price. i have this one and the skr1 and to me, the best part is knowing i can beat the absolute hell out of them and if they do break i can just get a new one for under 50 bucks. Bc of that you really push the blades and through that you learn them, their limits, their needs and you get so much more comfortable with them

So the $64,000 question Brian is would you rather have this or a Mora? If a Mora is better for you, which model would you rather have than this? Looks great. Bought their pendleton light from Cold Steel based on your video, this looks even better honestly. Your fur baby is soooo cute! Every man NEEDS a big dog!

Lynn Thompson isn't controversial. He is very goal oriented. He sells and design knives and he's not afraid of showing you what they can do. And some people don't like that. Instead of dealing with their irrational fears, they make it other people's problem. 🤦‍♂️

Hi Brian 🙂 .. This "Finn Hawk" from "Cold Steel" is a good knife for bushcraft , but I think the "Morakniv Companion Heavy Duty" may be a better option . The latter has a longer tang inserted in the handle , it practically occupies 2/3 of the handle , which gives it more resistance against impacts especially in batoning tasks it also has a slightly thicker blade about 3,2 mm and also the steel is of better quality the stainless "Sandvik 12c27" ... greetings to all from Barcelona (Spain) 🌲🌲🌲🪵🔪🙂

Um... they may not like people saying it but if they didn't want people to do so then maybe they should have done something other than copy it nearly identically from Mora. There's not a thing wrong with it, I'd be happy to have it with me in just about any situation. But it is is what it is and what it is... is... CS's version of a Mora. Good video, I do enjoy the knife reviews. I am, admittedly, a fixed blade junkie, I don't really have time for folders simply because I've had too many of them break on me, but I am a full fledged fixed blade junkie so I catch every one of your reviews on them.

I think you were thinking of Falkniven when you said they have laminated steel. Mora uses either carbon steel or 12c27. Laminated steel is pretty expensive, you would've see it on a $15 knife not to mention there's no point of laminating carbon steel(unless it Japanese steels like super blue, hap 40/72 but they're really expensive) or 12c27.

Why? The sheath sucks - you can't remove the knife with one hand, the steel is soft and dulls quickly, it will tear up your bare hands with extended use.
@henryvandeventer2457
@henryvandeventer2457 2 жыл бұрын
@@MutsPub Personal choice. I've never had an issue with pulling it from the sheath with one hand. Could it be better with a little thumb ramp? Yes, but it's never bothered me. I prefer the retention of the sheath vs a Mora's, not sure about the "soft steel" as it hold an edge much longer than my Mora Companions and even my Garberg. Never had an issue with hot spots or it "tearing up my hand" even without gloves. I also prefer the handle shape vs that of a Mora. I also like the spine and the fact that I don't need to grind it to scrape or throw sparks with a ferro rod. I like Mora, I have a ton of them, but I prefer the Finn Hawk.

(i am currently saving up for the Boker Tirpitz which will be easily the most expensive knife i have ever bought at £577 UK pounds, i would love it if you could review it because i know your reviews can be trusted)

I always enjoy the aerodynamic balance test using your state-of-the-art balance, orientation, and rotation device at the testing facility of the worldwide headquarters of Survival on Purpose but only because it's funny to hear you say that and fun to watch. for me, it doesn't affect my evaluation of the knife, because the statistical probability that I, or anyone, will ever be in a circumstance where the wisest thing to do with that tool is to hurl it as a weapon is vanishingly small. If you have to find your mark to make it stick, how will you be able to time your throw so that the charging ___ (puma, wolf, etc.) reaches that distance from you just as the knife does? You're basically turning a useful tool into a 5.1-ounce pebble and throwing it away. You're right to refer to it as Cold Steel's version of a Morakniv, though, because the other similarly built knives from Scandi-land, like the Helle, are not competitively priced with the Mora. It is interesting that your review of this appeared on the same day as Mark Young's review of the Varushtelika (sp.?) version of the Mora Garberg (the Terava Jaakaripuukko 110). Morakniv must feel like Jimmy Durante - "Everybody wants ta get inta de act!" But imitation, they say, is the sincerest form of flattery.
