I have gutted out several deer with this knife (which worked extremely well, very sharp). I even used it to rip through the rib cage. I too have experienced the chipping but I thought maybe I was too harsh on it ripping through bone. Still impressed for $18.00. The chipping is small and easy to sharpen out. But I think i going to try a different knife. Just bought the BPS Adventure. 1066 carbon steel. feels really nice in my hands. very robust. Like a big bush craft knife. Can't wait to try it out.

Little confession, I continued to use it every trip for a year at least. It wouldnt die.

I've got one but I prolly wouldn't skin or butcher anything with it, I recommend a vintage case 366 while they are still somewhat cheap (I bought one for my nephew 2 years ago used for 50 bucks on ebay)

My experience with Krupp 4116 is similar. I have a Cold Steel Commercial Series knife that was based on their Carbon V Hudson Bay series. The blade shape is similar to a RAT-7 or ESEE 6. The handle material is the same as your Finn Hawk, very grippy. It would be a great camp knife, but the steel is just too brittle. It has tiny chips just from kitchen use. In contrast my Carbon V version was used by my wife to split a coconut (in my absence, lol) with no damage to the edge whatsoever. I've seen some good looking higher end bushcraft knives that use that 4116 steel, but I would be very wary of buying them.

I'd have to agree on the Mora being a better option for the price

can't help but notice how Cold Steel proudly stamp every one of their blades made with 4116 steel as "German". They think putting "German" on there will help sell the product and it probably does. Cold Steel could have made the Finn Hawk with Aus8 steel which is better than 4116 but instead they chose to go for lower quality stainless like that Krupp 4116. Mora's sandvik stainless blows the krupp 4116 out of the water. Cold Steel also copied Mora's sheath but they didn't quite get it right. Another fail. Buy the Mora and don't even think twice!

To be fair, Cold Steel has made some excellent knives over the years. But here they were really trying to reinvent the wheel. Mora has been doing the high-quality, cheap as dirt, knife right forever.

Normal use. Funny thing is, that's all it stayed as, and was still scary sharp, I used the heck out of it, and actually feel bad about this review a little. Mora is still a better option at the price range in my opinion for a scandi grind "bushcraft" knife.

It's way to soft ....The steel is used for medical knives it's not outdoor steel at all. Makes no sense ... The grind is cool its a slicy knife but not worth your money or time.
