I use a carbide scraper and not my knives spine. But it is nothing a good file can't f8x

7:00 Sorry if this is a silly question, but why would you scrape fatwood off with the back of the knife instead of the cutting edge? After all, its a cutting tool for a cutting job!

No its not silly, using the spine makes a finer scraping that excepts a spark easier and faster. You can also scrape with the edge in the same fashion and get the same results, however I dont recommend doing that because it could cause edge damage. Also using the spine saves your cutting edge some work so it doesn't have to be stropped as quickly, hopefully that gives you more insight on my thoughts lol but if you have further questions I'd do my best to answer them. 👍

@@alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548 Ahhh, got it! That does make sense. However, I guess the spine would have to have a very good edge to do that, but I think you mentioned that. If it can get a spark off a ferro rod it should do the trick. Thanks.

as an owner of the SRK and the SRK-C, I would definitely choose the compact model 100 percent

@@alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548 that would be a pretty nice choice, depending on regular or tanto you could go for the 3V recon tanto, if you are fond of those typs of blade shapes. Same exact thickness in blade stock and handle, but an inch longer on the tanto

I like it alot more after using it for while now, I still prefer the original handle size more but that c carries really nice. As a more edc fixed blade it really works great 👍 id say it could handle about anything you'd need a knife to do, and I dont meen prying with it ect lol although I'm sure you could to an extent 🤣

With both knives, I'd strip off the coating, sharpen the spine, and force a patina on them.

CS needs to put a full-tang on the SRK and get rid of that damn rat-tail wannabe full-tang! This model has been around for 20+ years it deserves the proper respect being a blade that 1 in every 5 knife owners have in their collection. A g10 or canvas-micarta would be a great upgrade. Actually I would like to see this in an XL version with a 6-6.5” blade.

No, they don't! The reason why SRK has been around since late 80's is because of the design. It's strong yet lightweight. You change it into full tang and put G10 on it and it's no longer SRK. It's something else that is much heavier and not as nimble. Not to mention it would significantly bump the price up. There are so many similar knives out there with Micarta and G10. Not everyone wants that handle material.

Why, it's plenty strong as it is. I have several in different steels, they work great. Plenty have tried to destroy them, and those who have did it by doing what no user will do....

Being thinner stock and a saber grind, maybe I'd like it better than the regular SRK. I'm honestly not impressed with the SRK, and could never understand why it is so well loved. Not saying it sucks or anything like that. It's a knife, keep it sharp it will cut, I just think it's highly over rated. It would make a good self defense knife, but for the woods, there are many far better options in my opinion. If price is the major factor, than I'd rather carry a Mora Companion into the woods than an SRK, but that's just me. To each their own. I fully realize we all have different likes and use our knives differently so not knocking anyone who likes it. If it fits a persons needs, than that's all that matters in the end. The main reason I still have one is every now and again I think about starting my own channel, and since it seems to be so well loved, it would make a good GAW knife, lol.

I'm with ya on that, its not super impressive to me either. I think it would be a better kit knife than carry, because its ok at everything and not great with one thing, but is reliable and durable. Bro you should definitely start a channel, it makes the whole knife addiction even more fun lol.

The SRK has been so wildly bought & raved over because people want to baton & abuse it the way the tester knife channels do. That & the miniscule price per value factor!!!

For the money.....there are no better options.....that is why it's so popular.......sure you can get a better knife....but not for 40 bucks.... .that simple .

It can be hard to tell the difference sometimes but if you lay a straight edge (such as a ruler etc) across it from edge toward the spine you can tell, if you can see light under the ruler its a hollow grind and if not then it's flat. If it were a convex grind light would show on both ends of the bevel with a dark section in the middle, hope this helps lol. 👍
