Overlooked by his own high command, he battled not only his personal demons but the forces of NATO in the most dangerous naval war yet seen in Europe. Little did anyone know that Captain Alexei Karamazov was truly the brightest tactical mind in the Soviet submarine force. What might the war had been like if only the archaic admirals at their dusty office desks and chests full of pompous medals had put aside their contempt for a man with a troubled past and given him the command he truly deserved. To Western historians after the war, the controversy between Alexei Karamazov's countless successful war patrols and the unimaginative Soviet High Command became the textbook example of Soviet military failures and its inability to take initiative. Still, a captain who languished at the bottom of the chain of command will go down in the history books as one of the greatest heroes of the Soviet Union.

Despite the fatal outcome, this is the most nail biting Cold Waters mission you've ever had, Wolfpack😰 They did it. They (Northern Fleet command, from the Kremlin's direct order) has finally managed to get rid of Alexi Karamazov. The enemy of the state! After the loss of the B-303, armistice was sign between the conflicting parties. After the confirmation of the B-303s loss with all hands, within 48 hours all hostilities have ended and everybody went back to their usual routine. Cold War was resumed... Kонец

Fisticuffs between two wounded warriors to the bitter end. I'm certain that Spruance ended up sinking not long after B-303 touched bottom. You made them pay a heavy price, Kapitan. B-303's crew showed gall, stones, bravery, and intelligence on par with the sharpest tactician and the most weathered sailor. I can't wait to see what comes next.

I knew your content from UBOAT, but I really love your narrative on this campaign. It becomes so reliable and imersive, if there is a story behind all that sometimes "boring" tasks. I love it! And I love the story you made up. It really hurts, that it ended and I think I have to honour all the brave men, that died in this campaing. There where many sailors lost. But I still have to consider those many NATO sailors, that found their fate down that murky waters, by your hand. Congratulations!

I think that the warhead weight on file in the dotmod file is erroneously low; you might want to consult a naval reference and correct it. Also, as a tactical consideration in the use of the test - 71 torpedo you might want to refrain from activating it until the last moment. The speed increase after activation is only 5 kts more but the maximum range goes down from 25,000 yds to 15,000 yds. BTW: Condolences to Alexi's two other brothers, Dmitri and Ivan.

It’s a little ironic that USS Fife DDG991 (named for a submarine admiral) got the kill against B303. Our Russian protagonist Kapitan 2nd Rank Karamazov died relatively unknown yet a hero. In contrast, Captain William “Wolf” Pack USN was wounded on the bridge after the TEST 71M impacted the Fife. He was thrown against a wall breaking several bones but was heard screaming “FIRE ANOTHER F***ING ASROC AND HAVE THE HELICOPTER KILL THAT SON OF A B**** SUBMARINE!!!” The XO led the Fife (at 5kts) to Iceland for emergency repairs and then Capt Pack was honorably discharged. Emergency repairs were only partially complete when the war ended with NATO victory. The ship was determined to be too expensive to repair and was scuttled near South Beach Miami. She sank upright with the keel 100ft underwater. Today she is a beautiful artificial coral reef and scuba diving spot.

Test 71's can be used against surface ships, you have to force them as close to the surface as you can and then steer them towards the enemy, it takes two of them to fully sink an enemy ship but it can help you get out of tricky situations if you run out of uset 80's or 56 65k's

Should've tried sending a moss at the spruance to try to make their own torpedoes hit them
@Ellerion22 жыл бұрын
I know only that escape was the only option in that last engagement. That and firing torpedos at both ships at the same time. He did the best he could but with 2 escorts and a heli the chances of survival were next to 0 in any case. And the boat is slow, too slow, to escape all the torps. The worst part was no thermal layer. Maybe just launching the moss and having the escorts chase after that one while fleeing in the opposite direction would work to avoid getting sunk...

After his death Captain Karamazov and the crew of B-303 became posthumously Heroes of the Soviet Union. The tale of their incredible journey through adversities, hardships, mistakes and successes, became legendary among historian and war enthusiasts alike. History will remember B-303 as the single most successful submarine in naval history and the fate of the crew will alert Soviets about the incapability of their leadership, leading indirectly to a lot of reforms in the Navy and eventually to the Soviet Union itself after the war. Fucking awesome series.

Much as I'd relish seeing you in charge of an Oscar, Victor or Alpha it was a great choice to keep going with the old diesel boats, and amazing what you achieved with them. The UK Oberon's were essentially an upgraded Porpoise class. Steel was thicker enabling safe depth of 300 MTRS and "one helmsman" controls for increased speed and stability of depth keeping. They were involved in plenty of special ops due to floating high when surfaced and space for "passengers" with canoes and personal weapons.
@nerd1000ify2 жыл бұрын
Canada and Australia also operated them. HMAS Ovens can be toured at the maratime museum in Freemantle. The Australian boats were heavily updated over their careers, most notably gaining a better combat system with the ability to fire Mk 48 torpedoes.

I thought I might offer a little calculational tool with which to figure out whether a target ship is within the fuel range of your torpedoes. Let Rt be the maximum range of the torpedo at its corresponding speed, Vv be the speed of the vessel being targeted, Vt be the speed of the torpedo and Dv be the maximum distance at the time of firing: Dv = Rt*[1 - (Vv/Vt)]. As a particular example, suppose we are trying to torpedo a cargo shop that is fleeing at 22 kts with a test-71 torpedo that is on wire guidance mode: Dv = 15,000*[1 - (22/35)] = 5,571 yds. So, if the ship is outside this distance when you plan to fire the torpedo it will run out of fuel before reaching its target.
