Cold weather survival is important to know because it has some unique issues and can be deadly, I went through cold weather survival school in the military im 2011 in Black Rapids Alaska which is in the interior of Alaska so the warmest temperature we had the whole two week class was -10 degrees F, it sucked at times being out in the cold all the time but it was also one of my favorite classes and fun and the scenery beautiful up in the mountains with snow and glaciers.

When I did my winter survival class, it was absolutely brutal. But looking back, it was my favorite class I've ever taken.

@@adaptablesurvival yeah we did a lot and since being military they didn’t only teach us to survive but also taught how to fight in the mountains, snowshoeing, skiing, snow shelters, sleeping on the ground without a shelter and all kinds of stuff for avalanches and everything really good course.

Good explanation of the natural fibers vs synthetic fibers. Myself, I like synthetic next to my skin with wool or cotten over that then a synthetic outer layer. It realy depends on what im doing and the temperature. I do not tolerate heat very well so i prefer being a little cold. I realy don't like temps above 60 degrees. Go figure, i've spent my intire life in the south. If the temps are cool enough i'll wear a cotten shirt over my synthetic t shirt or with a wool sweater between them if its actualy cold. If its realy cold i want a synthetic outer layer. But thats just me and my tolerance to temperature. You presented some valid points for the average person and you are spot on about staying dry.

I agree on the baselayers. I often will use a thin synthetic baselayer and out a thin merino over it if I am going to get too warm / sweaty with hiking. You can then take the synthetic off to dry it and put the merino next to skin around camp.

Exactly, having that versatility is key to combating the elements.

Very much appreciate your posting this video and look forward to watching the entire series as it evolves. When we can learn from someone else’s knowledge and experience we are wise to make good use of it. Saves time. Saves resources. And in extreme cases it saves lives. So I’d rather humble myself and say, “Yes. I have plenty yet to learn about cold weather survival”, than die face down and frozen with my pride intact. (New subscriber from Indiana)

One of my biggest predicament, I were a heavy thermal layer just for sitting around deer hunting, but walking in with all my gear I sweat my but off, but if I wear lighter I freeze
@adaptablesurvival8 ай бұрын
I'd say, wear a light layer on your walk in. Once you get to your stand, put on a thicker layer.

Had to leave. Your rambling, repeating yourself, was boring. It's nothing personal and I'll check out some of your other videos, but I can find other videos that can get to the point. Have a great day.
