eventually you stop feeling the cold, and it just feels like numb pain, with little pricks of pain all over as you sweat and it freezes on your skin. it's similar to being in +120F, in that heat you also feel the little pinpricks of pain as you sweat and it evaporates instantly, but instead of a numb pain it's sort of a dull sandy painful tingle. but after you stop feeling the cold, then you slowly start feeling nice and warm, then sleepy, and if you don't act immediately at that point (as in you're not about to be put into shelter and extreme hypothermia treatment), you fall asleep and never wake up. also, if you get into that ice fog he was pointing out, it will kill you even more rapidly. if that ice fog creeps up around you and you're not prepared for it, and rescue isn't minutes away, there's nothing left to do but make peace and prepare yourself. if it wasn't for that trapper rolling by, we may never have seen this video. in extreme cold your body is burning through calories and water like mad, and you require thousands extra calories and liters extra water per day just to exist. he's definitely not carrying enough food/water for the weather he is in. i have been in both situations, the numb prickly pain of extreme hot and cold, but fortunately never past that point.

For awhile I lived in an area where the locals could tell the air temperature by the kind of squeak sound made when walking on the snow. The sound from your daylight portion of video brought back cold, cold memories. The after sunset sounds, I do not think I've ever heard that kind of cold. I was warned that if I got too cold I would not feel it. The tell tale was a wandering mind and loss of attention to details. And, we never went out alone in that kind of cold. Fortunately, somebody always "kept the home fires burning" that season.
