Hi Lars, it's not only eating that society here is obsessed with, it's consumption. With our mobile devices we are manipulated with commercials all day to buy this and that. We are consumed by consumption ;) Stay like you are, you are on the right way!

Hello Lars, we live on the countryside, in a village with 256 citizens. We eat vegetables and fruits, nuts out of our garden and fields just next to our farm we live. Yes we go to the supermarked and bakery, too. Once a year the butcher makes sausages out of the farm owners yearly young cattles. My daughter (9) helps me to seed potatoes, harvest, cultivate the vegetable garden. Take care, and stay healthy. Alex

Welcome BACK, Lars!!! Enjoy your wilderness! Here in Western Wyoming, USA, we had the coldest, snowiest winter in 30 years. Our deer fawn population suffered an almost 90% mortality due to the record deep snow. This has also been a very cold May for us and they have predicted we will continue to have frost up until the second week of June. I fear we will have a very short break from winter this year. I love these kind of videos from you, and I can just feel the level of peace and happiness that being in the wilderness brings to you! Enjoy it, Brother!

When I left my home in a town many years ago and moved out into a rural area it felt like true wilderness, after a few years it no longer feels like wilderness and I am moving further out and to a higher elevation that seems remote. It is so quiet that you cannot hear any signs of civilization only leaves on trees and animals and birds occasionally. The silence is very awesome and powerful to experience, I really need that and feel claustrophobic in towns and cities.

I've heard that side of the zeltbahn was designed for mountainous terrain, but I think that pattern would be awesome in the Russian swampy forrests. Plenty of grey for the birches and green for the moss and vegetation. Went for a hike recently with my gf to some foothills just outside of town and we were both saddened and angered to see loggers taking down a little forrest to expand more space for these million pound houses. Such a shame. You're right about refusing to live in a busy society, It's just madness sometimes.

Lars, you're right about the "over civilised" world. It's like a silent wave spreading across the world. Even here in Australia it's begun where some people begin to eat ready made food instead of cooking a hearty meal like you cook. Those of us who live in the countryside and rural areas enjoy going out camping in the bush away from modern life to appreciate the freedom, fresh air and the peace and quiet of nature. To enjoy nature without TV blaring is bliss. Love you videos mate, enjoying watching and learning in every one of them.

Great video Lars, as always. I have a German WW-2 reproduction Zeltbahn like yours except, different camouflage. A really great item and mine like yours is canvas. Our nylon US Army Ponchos, were worn the same way, and had a hood. However they were not as large. We would tie off the hood and make Poncho Hootches. We carried 2 of the light weight ponchos for that purpose. Before Vietnam there were only the heavier nylon ponchos, and both were still issues. Often one of each. However for wearing, I like the Pash Palatka, and the Zeltbahn better. Also a good hootch could be made also from them. There were serveal ways and one could attach 2 for a larger hootch. Also you use of rubber boots for that terrain in my view is much more practicle. We have a lot of birch here in our mountains and it's a great things to know to extract the liquid and also to heal the tree. Like you, I see the same "over eating" here in the USA. Too many fat people. Not good. I love to eat also, but I eat what I need and not just to eat. It's unhealthy. As product of to much easy living. People are starving in parts of the world and in others, they over eat. Crazy. I also love the outdoors. You and I are blessed to live where we do. Many would never touch living here all year round but those of us who do, are all folks like yourself who love nature over civilization. As to the wild game, it's very interesting your observations. I fully understand that, and have seen it myself, in Europe, and even some parts of the USA. Enjoy your home, and God Bless you and your family.

Hello Lars, We use rubber boots a lot here. Call them "Ketchikan Sneakers" they are worn so often. Even many years ago when 'shoe paks' were prevalent (rubber bottoms, leather tops) my Dad always had us use felt insoles which I still do today. You can pull them out and dry them making the boots dry quicker as well. They also keep your feet much warmer. When it is wet you just can't use anything but rubber. Important to get those that are snug around the ankles for hiking and loose for boating (you can kick them off if you fall overboard). Very sorry to hear about the loss of Deputy Dog as I just viewed the video. Always hard to lose close friends as they are. Take care. Doug

It is good to see you back in your home environment Lars, this is where you belong. Similar weather here In BC Canada, just had some serious flooding close to where I live and roads were washed out, more rain than I have seen since i have come to Canada. The best time to harvest Birch Sap is just as the snow is melting away at the base of the trees. The trees I harvest from are 60 feet high and up to 12" diameter. I get one Gallon (5 Litres) of sap in 24 hours (though flow varies from tree to tree), Some tree sap has a pleasant flavour, others are tasteless. We cut the tree on the South face as much as possible as the sun tends to stimulate sap flow. The Siberians I know up North in the Boreal BC drink a lot of sap added to fruit juice, also alcoholic beverages made with sap.

rubber boots vs. gore-tex,,wool socks are the best, but extra, dry wool socks are a must have, you will get trench foot,,every half day, change socks, dry your feet, wipe the moisture out of your boots. only problem I ever had with rubber boots, was thorn trees( Black Locust)be careful where you step, they will poke holes thru boots and into foot. its easier to wipe mud off the rubber too. Salute to You Survival Russia !
