Hey folks! Hope you enjoy this one! Oh, and how do you like the inclusion of an acoustic guitar in my version? Let me know, will ya? :) Also hit me up if you have any other questions about this video. Coincidentally, this was the first song I *ever* performed live in public - some 20 years ago, in 2004 (I believe?) during music night at my school as part of the school band I was in. Unfortunately, there are no recordings of that performance, so you'll just have to believe me when I tell you that this version right here is an improvement, to put it mildly :D Oh well! At any rate, there's always been this personal connection to this song for me ever since, so I'm glad I finally got this one out of my system. Next Coldplay-related project will be "Something Just Like This". Since I am currently writing my master's thesis for uni, however, it's nearly impossible to indicate a realistic release date for it. I hope you'll bear with me! If everything works out, the thesis will be done in June - releases should happen more regularly from there on out! Take care, everyone, and, as always, I appreciate your support so, *so* much :) Cheers Jo

Strumming pattern (for all three versions listed below): (by the example of the first two chords, i.e. "G-major shape" and "G/F#") G-major: - four down-strokes (on first four counts (if you count it as double-time = 145 bpm)) - second stroke is only implied/ *very* soft - one up-stroke on quaver after the 4 down-strokes - one more down-stroke G/F#: - starts on the quaver up-stroke after last g-major down-stroke - down-stroke, up-stroke (on quaver) - down-stroke, down-stroke, up-stroke (on quaver) Continue for all subsequent sets of two chords. ___________________________________ *Version 1* Standard tuning, capo 2nd fret Chords needed: G-major shape: 5-4-0-0-0-5 G/F#: 4-0-0-0-0-5 (alternatively: 4-x-0-0-0-5) B-minor shape: x-4-6-6-5-4 (bar chord) D-major shape: x-(0)-0-4-5-4 D7 shape: x-(0)-0-4-3-4 E-minor shape: 0-4-4-0-0-0 C-major shape: 5-5-4-0-3-0 Riff/verse: G-major G/F# B-minor D G-major E-minor B-minor D-major (alternatively: D7) Chorus: (C-major, G-major, D-major) x3 C-major, D7 ___________________________________ *Version 2* Standard tuning, no capo Chords needed: A-major (vari): 5*-7-7-6-5-0 A/G#: 4*-7-7-6-5-0 C#-minor: x-4-6-6-5-0 (alternatively: 9-11-11-9-0-0 (or "9" on the b-string)) E-major: 0-2-2-1-0-0 (alternatively: 0-14-14-13-0-0 (Chris seems to be waaay up there in the live version I've included in the video...)) E7: 0-2-2-1-3-0 F#-minor: 2-4-4-2-2-0 (simplified: 2442*0*0) D-major: x-(0)-0-2-3-2 A-major (basic): x-0-2-2-2-0 Riff/verse: A-major (vari) A/G# C#-minor E A-major (vari) F#-minor C#-minor E-major (alternatively: E7) Chorus: (D-major, A-major (basic), E-major) x3 D-major, E7 ___________________________________ *Version 3* Standard tuning, capo 2nd fret (but leaving the high e-string "uncapo'ed") Chords needed: G-major shape: 5-4-0-0-0-0 G/F#: 4-0-0-0-0-0 (alternatively: 4-x-0-0-0-0) B-minor shape: x-4-6-6-5-0 D-major shape: 7-7-6-0-5-0 D7 shape: x-7-6-7-5-0 E-minor shape: 0-4-4-0-0-0 C-major shape: 5-5-4-0-3-0 Riff/verse: G-major G/F# B-minor D G-major E-minor B-minor D-major (alternatively: D7) Chorus: (C-major, G-major, D-major) x3 C-major, D7

Hi Jo! Hope you doing well... Excuse me again, just a "technical" question please about strumming. I'm quite fine when it's about of fingerpicking. But I don't know why, I got the impression that I don't know to strumm chords very well. It doesn't sound like it should be, compared to you or even other guitarists. Most of all, I think about more "agressive" strumming. No deal with "downstroke/upstroke" or with rythm, no trouble with that, but I think I don't really know which part of my hand or what fingers I got to use?. Would you have little tricks or advices to give me please? If you got a little while for sure Thanks again, and again and again... Vince

Hey there - thank you so much! Glad you like it :) And yesss that's my new baby 😍 A Martin 0-X1E-01. It sold out so fast at the big online music shops here in Germany, I'm glad I still got one from a smaller store. Really, really worth looking into, imo. It plays and feels so well, has a really good built-in pick-up system, battery slot is easily accessible and it's still relatively affordable, compared to other Martin guitars. ...And it gets bonus points for kind of looking like the Martin model Chris played in the Rush Of Blood era :D :D Take care and have a good one - Jo

Hey Jo, how are you? Still working on your thesis? (by the way, what's the theme?) Have you a new tuto in your hat soon released or new stuff on your own? Both would be great news!!! I've tried to play "paradise" thanks to your messsage. I struggle sometimes 'cause it's often high in the neck, and and I don't know, when there's a capo, if the frets are relative to the capo or not. Could you mention me that please? As for myself, I let down for a little while ope tunings to go back to Paul Maccartney's universe, so many beautiful songs to learn or replay... Still waiting for the famous new album from Coldplay "moon music" and hope that it will be out very soon. Thanks again Vincent
@JoZeeland10 ай бұрын
Hey Vincent! Omg don't even get me started - I'm neck-deep into my thesis at the moment 🙈🙈 I'm writing about the use of English accents and dialects in the Star Wars universe, generally speaking 😅 This area of study is called variation linguistics. I've actually had to actively tell myself not to start any new YT project until at least the rough draft is done, which will be at the end of April, hopefully (!!!) 🍀🙈 Which means I'll get started on a new YT project in early May at the earliest - unless it's a Moon Music single, which I'd cover on the fly spontaneously whenever it comes out 😁 Apart from that, the next planned projects are Something Just Like This and - thanks to your request - Paradise :) Hope everything will become clear for you then! Until then though, I can tell you that my chord indications usually ignore the capo. So a chord like that C/E one will still be indicated as 12-x-10-12-0-0 regardless of the capo. The two zeros in that case refer to the two open strings from the capo. Does that help in any way? Good luck with all your musical endeavors, talk to you soon - and thank you for reaching out 😊 Jo

"Something just like this"? Hmm, weird choice but you must have your reasons. I'm not truly fan of this one, but anyway... You got the talent to embelish songs so I'll stay tuned and I'm sure I will find interest to learn it 😀 "Courage" for your work and we keep in touch Oh, and thanks for your indications about "Paradise" chords!

Hey Joe. I don’t suppose you know which tuning Chris uses in Spanish rain? I’ve been trying to figure out the timing and chord shapes for some time now and thought you might know?
@JoZeeland7 ай бұрын
Hey there! Actually, this has been requested before, so I'll just repost my initial response, which includes tuning + basic chords :) Hope this helps! If not, let me know. All the best to you and thank you for your continued support 😊 ------------ Hey there! Wasn't too familiar with this one, had only heard it once a long time ago, to be honest; but from the one live version where you can see Chris's guitar/hands here and there, it looks like EADF#BEb tuning to me! Chords for the main part should be something like: B: 7 9 9 0 0 0 G#m: 4 6 6 0 0 0 C#m: x 4 2 0 0 0 (or alternatively: 9 11 11 0 0 0) E: 0 2 2 0 0 0 I'll get back to you about the other parts!!

@@JoZeeland hi Joe. Really appreciate you getting back to me. This sounds like it could be bang on the tuning! I’m not sure if you have been able to listen but I noticed on the coldplaying forum there has recently been a audio snippet of just the acoustic guitar tracks from Spanish rain which sounds like Chris playing although it’s transposed up half a semitone. Definitely worth a listen if you’re interested and haven’t already heard it! Thanks again Joe

Hi Jo, thank you very much for these 3 ways to play this song. I already knew the 1st and 2nd but not the 3rd. That's fancy and as usual, really great to hear you play and explain that all. But I'm still hungry you know?... Tomorrow is a sad anniversary, a sad day for me and my family. You know who I'm talking about... Please, really please, try to give me something new that you obviously know. Just another Coldplay song, the one you want, with alternate tuning, or little tricks. For instance, I'm thinking about a "Viva la vida" album's song, "Paradise", "Viva", what you want... Really really please, it means a lot to me Jo. Thanks

Unfortunately, there's really no way I can provide anything beyond the videos and their related content that are up on my channel at the moment, for private reasons (see my pinned post here). Thank you for understanding and I wish you and your family all the best. And Viva... will come eventually - Paradise, I still haven't been able to find that acoustic video I once knew. Take care and all the best - Jo
@JoZeeland11 ай бұрын
Hello again, Vincent - since we've talked about "Paradise" quite a few times before and since I can't find that one acoustic performance Chris did once (it seemed pretty spontaneous anyways...), I thought "why not just give my own version/chords" so that I can at least give you a little bit of something in a time where there's so little time for me personally, you know? :D So here you go! Tuning: standard; capo: 1st fret. Chords needed: G-minor: 3*-5-5-3-0-0 C-major: 8*-10-10-9-0-0 D-minor: 10*-12-12-10-0-0 F-major oct1: 0-15-15-14-0-0 F-major oct2: 0-15-15-14-13-0 C-major vari: 8*-10-10-9-8-0 Bb-major: 6*-8-8-7-0-0 F-major: 0-3-3-2-0-0 C/E: 12-x-10-12-0-0 Bb-major vari: x-0-12-10-0-0 F-major vari: 0-12-x-10-0-0 F/A: 5-x-3-5-0-0 Gsus4: 3-x-3-5-0-0 Intro/instrumental1: G-minor, C-major, D-minor, F-major oct1, C-major G-minor, C-major, D-minor, F-major oct2, C-major vari (Repeat first line of chords, then:) Pre-chorus: Bb-major, F-major oct1, C/E Bb-major, F-major oct1, C-major Main riff/chorus: G-minor, Bb-major, F-major, C/E G-minor, Bb-major, F-major, C-major Verse 1: D-minor, Bb-major vari, F-major vari, C/E D-minor, Bb-major vari, F-major vari, C-major Instrumental 2 = verse 1 Verse 2: Bb-major, F/A, F/A, Gsus4 Bb-major, D-minor, D-minor, C-major G-minor, Bb-major, F-major, C/E Bb-major, F-major ...into pre-chorus. So yeah! Lmk if anything's unclear. I've included a lot of variations that one could simplify. Then again, the whole song does have a lot of chord oddities, if one goes by what Chris plays on the piano! Kind of a tricky song, since it seems very straightforward at first, when there are in fact some weird things happening in terms of lengths of parts, part that serve different functions, but use the same chords etc etc etc :D That's it for now! That's all I can give. There *will* be a vid on this one day too, though, somewhere down the road...:) Cheers
