Right? I remember thinking even at the time "The facial animation is so good yet I've seen better character models in PS2 games" Personally I think it just adds to this game's charm... you can really tell they went all in on the mocap but couldn't really afford the budget or time to polish the character models to the point of other games coming out at the time. Same with the clunky driving and boring shooting mechanics - the point of the game isn't supposed to be about shooting bad guys and getting into high-speed chases... If you're doing those things as a detective, then you've probably already screwed something up. La Noire is one of the only games where instead of going "ugh just let me shoot something" in the dialogue scenes, you go "ugh I just wanna yell at these guys" in the shooting scenes.

@@bern9642 Motion capture of the face, not body movement. LA Noire was the first video game to ever use facial capture. And no, it is not more expensive than animating, or at least it no longer is as of now. Facial animations are complicated and take more labor hours to do than anything else. Every large title game since then has converted to MotionScan because it is significantly easier to integrate over frame by frame animations of every mouth, tongue, eye, nose, and skin movement for every syllabal a character speaks.
@bern96423 жыл бұрын
@@EOtekk it's not easier or cheaper. 😂. First motionscan (not just motionscan, but also other techniques) is a proprietary technology. You need to use proprietary software and the proprietary hardware. All of which are expensive. There is licensing and all that. It's not a 1 time purchase. Then you have to do detailed facial scans of all the actors. Then process that data and so on. You have to work with a huge amount of data. You need a huge amount of motion capture. A huge amount. Then it's not compatible with traditional animation work, that is you can't edit scans like you would a normal 3D scan. Very few games use facial motion capture and it's almost exclusively for AAA games. Using a 3D then animating that is cheaper and faster. This answer on quora deals with it well. www.quora.com/Why-havent-new-games-used-the-L-A-Noire-facial-animation-method-Also-what-really-is-the-method-I-was-never-sure-how-they-made-it-look-that-good?top_ans=211819404

I just love how I still feel satisfied when Cole told off Roy with such a convincing passion ("finally lost it") about the whole crooked circle, it's so extremely rewatchable and memorable it never gets old. They used some kind of unique mo-cap technology to film actors' faces from every angle, turn them into 3D models and paste the video on. Impressive stuff.

I love that Hershel backed the officer away, it shows how their relationship has grown and how Hershel is good guy.

Terrific performances in this game and the facial capture stuff, whilst a little bit spooky looking at times, is still very impressive. Wonder why it's not implemented more in games.

The best scene/cutscene in this game…

This game has the best story ever written for a videogame, hands down. I love and hate Phelps, and I throughly enjoyed getting to know him and his backstory. Jack also serves as a perfect mirror for Phelps. Truly wonderful, the two of them.

Fun Fact: In Red Dead Redemption 2, you encounter a man in The Heartlands area, who's last name is Phelps...some people think It could be Cole's father

Best thing about this scene is that Cole never hated Courtney for shooting him back in the war. He still respected him.

"You say one more word about him and I will blow your #$+&ING HEAD OFF!!" Jesus Christ, Phelps! That got extremely hostile really fast. I know it was justified, but the poor guy sounded like he was going insane! Kinda makes you feel sad for him honestly

This was just the straw that broke Cole's back
@mileselon1339 Жыл бұрын
@@Gage_Brumley true, he was a combat veteran, he was in the Marines and likely stuck in Iwo Jima or worse Okinawa, meaning he had to see some fucked up stuff down there! The guy has been through a lot in both of his careers, and clearly he's just doing all of this for the right reasons. And then he has to deal with both the criminals, but also his own allies who are both complete jerks to him. And then comes along this red coat over here, constantly being sarcastic at the worst of times, Cole doesn't really care too much up until right now where he finds a buddy of his from the American Invasion of Japan... Laying there on the ground with bullet wounds in his body. And what does this red coat do? He accused the poor guy of being a drug trafficker, and a traitor. Honestly I would've cracked him aswell but still Phelps pulls a gun on him and starts just losing it! So I kinda feel bad for the guy what can I say?
