In this video, I go over the things I consider when selecting a tire within the Michelin StarCross 6 Tire Range. Michelin has a variety of offerings and selecting the correct one for your terrain and the type of riding that you do will ensure that you are getting the most out of your tires. As always, I'm running Michelin Bib Mousse inserts in my tires, regardless of my tire choice.
Michelin StarCross 6 Range Offerings:
Michelin StarCross 6 Medium Soft
Michelin StarCross 6 Medium Hard
Michelin StarCross 6 Hard
Michelin StarCross 6 Sand
Michelin StarCross 6 Mud (Rear only)

Cole, do the StarCross 6 "hard" rated tires do well in rock mixed with hard packed dirt and granite or is it better to go with the medium? I ride in the Arizona Sonoran desert. I have the medium rated tire on the bike now and just purchased a "hard" rated tire and I'm wondering if I made a good choice...wanted to ask before I mount it in case I need to take it back and switch for a medium. Thanks in advance! Love your vids.

I haven't ridden the "hard" rated tires yet. The rear is only available in a 19inch and the terrain I have here in Texas I typically stick to the med/soft or med/hard combo. I think it's worth giving the "hard" setup a try. Let me know what you think once you get some time in on them.

@@ColeKirkpatrick Much appreciated, Cole. If I keep the hard set up I'll report back. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Take care!

Hey, just came across your channel a few days ago - appreciate all the info and entertainment! Tyre question for you… From what I can tell, you guys over in the US (east and west coasts) don’t rate the FIM style (you call it DOT approved I think?) tyres, generally because of the smaller knob depth (🫢) and hence a lack of bite. I’m in the UK and contrary to popular belief hardly any of our race organisers stipulate that we must run FIM tyres, it’s only a select few venues, generally Forestry land, that ban non-FIM tyres and yet the most popular Enduro tyre by quite a margin, from grass roots beginners all the way up to the top British Enduro Championship guys, is the Michelin Enduro Medium… an FIM approved tyre. I have my own theories as to why the disparity in opinions (which could amount to bro-science…) but I’d be really interested in your thoughts.

Thanks for the comment! I'm actually a big fan of that tire as well. It works in a wide range of terrain and even though it's an FIM approved tire, it still performs incredibly well. I hadn't used one much until last year when I was riding in the Western Slope of Colorado (lots of loose silty dirt and also tons of rock) and couldn't believe how consistent the grip was. There are a few guys that swear by them even in the GNCC races over here.

@@ColeKirkpatrick Ok, that makes a lot of sense. All of the American KZbinrs I have seen address the FIM tyres (including Michelin Mediums) describe them as junk and it has always confused me! 😂 I get that certain terrain (loose, deep sand/mud especially) there are better options but they are very good in lots of scenarios. I figured that the KZbinrs in question fell into the classic “bigger knobs = more grip” unequivocally trap, but I also think many simply don’t like them because “I’m not letting some Europeans tell me how long my knobs can be” 😂 Anyway, thanks for clearing that up, I’m working my way through your channel mate, really good stuff 👊🏻
