Got this stove used it’s dated March 1972 and it was not holding pressure in the tank. It would all escape through the pump knob.
So here after going through a little troubleshooting and trying some repairs I found that sticking a carb cleaner wire through the valve and that freed up whatever was causing the issue.
Excited to get this thing up and running and start putting some use on it so check back in with the channel for more!

Great video! Your method work great for me as my lantern wasn't holding pressure after a decade in storage. Pulled the pump out along with valve screw, added carb cleaner and let sit for a few hours. Used a wire to clean out any gunk. Put it back together and works like a champ now! Thanks!

Never thought to use vinegar. I always use Acetone. Cause it won't contaminate the fuel.

Can you use normal car gas in these stoves also? Never mind I finished the video and you answered my question!

If no pressure was my problem, the first two things that I would do is (1) oil the leathers, and (2) check the gasket in the filler cap. If the check valve is leaking, it is a very DANGEROUS situation. The pressure in the tank will instantly push a stream of raw gasoline straight out of the vent hole in the pump plunger when the plunger is unscrewed to allow the pump to work. This raw gas squirts directly onto the operator. I have had to remove and replace two such Coleman check valves. That had never been a problem for me when Coleman made their own equipment in America. But, for years it has been farmed out to overseas sources, perhaps to China? Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

Thank you for this. I just got my first 220 lantern (I got it for when we take our 79' VW out camping) and at first I had no pressure. I took the plunger out and set it back in and it was honestly hard to even push it in. I could only get about 3 pumps before I was done (my wife is used to that. hahaha!!). The rod would easily push back out by itself so at least I have something I can try tonight without thinking I need to get that special took to get the valve out! Or is it possible that the tank is just too full of fuel & doesn't take much to pump it up? I'll edit this tonight or tomorrow once I give it a try! Thanks!!!

Yeah even if it is totally fuel it will definitely take more than three pump (as she already said) let us know how it goes!

@1990 Trade Co well I tried everything! I was able to get a little pressure in there and I finally stuck a long paper clip down in there & it must have pushed the ball a certain way because I got shot with a blast of air!!! But that got it unstuck and seems to pump as it should now! It got pressure without letting air come out of the little hole now in the pump. My wife was impressed that I actually, maybe fixed something right. Ha! I appreciate this tip, it was the ONLY thing that actually worked .I'll test this tomorrow again & can report back! 👊

@@1990Co Me too! Thanks brother. You should do some videos on your camper too! I love the old vintage stuff and have our 79' VW Camper that we take out camping. I love this old Coleman stuff for the nostalgia of that time period. I'll report back tonight after work when I give it the real test if it's still working & lighting as it should!
