I’ve lived in the Dominican Republic and taught English in a school there. The education system is extremely lacking. Teachers were not trained well or given the type of help with curriculum that they are in the states. My family in the DR says their schooling was a joke. No wonder most young men become taxi drivers or security guards. Your only hope at getting off the island is through baseball or becoming a doctor. There are exceptions to that, but not many.

That's not a correct statement, many immigrants are forced to take those types of jobs because the american education system does not recognize those other education systems. Many people who had careers as doctors lawyers weren't able to transfer those careers when they migrate. In truth their education systems are better because a 6th grader is already taking classes offered to 8th graders here. But the great american education system that is ranked like 24th in the world doesn't accept their accreditation and take these kids and put them in 5th grade and regard their language as a handicap so some may even put in special education.

I lived for three years in Santo Domingo. What this host said is exactly right. Public education is solely primary. It ends at grade eight. There are no public high schools in the Dominican Republic. All secondary education is private, and ninety percent of Dominicans cannot afford the tuition. I was offered a position teaching English at a private secondary academy. . They are akin to preparatory schools here. Those students go on to the professions and well paying jobs. The other ninety percent face a life of grinding poverty. The ball players come from that pool. Maybe the poverty is what makes Dominicans the best players in the world. I did not accept the teaching job.

I just got through listening to Colin call out Michelle B. from ESPN and thought, "dumbass." So before listening to this I was not viewing him in the best light. I say that because I viewed this video waiting to hear a racist remark, but it never came. He never called out a race of people, he criticized a country's education system. He didn't say a certain race of people in that country are unintelligent because of their skin color. Also I looked into it...there wasn't any outrage until these comments were manipulated and taken out of context. As an American I do not get offended when people say our education system is failing our children, because it is. I also think I'd be failing my children if I taught them it was okay to chastise someone over something so miniscule. I grew up in south Texas and unfortunately I can assure you racism exists and while I can not tell you what Colin or anyone else in this world says and believes behind closed doors I can say that anyone who becomes enraged about something without getting the full story is doing themselves and the accused an injustice. This happened around the Same time he announced he was leaving ESPN and joining FS1.He actually wanted to finish out his Contract before leaving but made this "controversial statement" then got "Fired" from the Network In a twist of fate. ESPN the Network has gotten a lot worse by chasing off Very talented people from it's platform, and replaced them w/ SJW Robots, while Colin is now enjoyed a Huge payday while now living in Los Angeles, but his Show was a LOT better on ESPN

As a former high school and college QB, I completely agree. I played baseball, basketball, volleyball. None of those sports did I have to speak the language of my teammates, unless it was football. That didn't mean everybody on the offense had to speak English perfectly, but it sure as hell helped if you had to audible. Now if you're on defense and they're calling the defense from the linebacker position even that's going to be sketchy, but probably more manageable with a language difference. That said, it wouldn't work in practice unless you had translators and other than a deaf teammate for one season, I've never seen such a thing. I like his new dumb show better anyhow.
