Probably my favourite thing about Colin's bass playing is that he almost plays it like a lead instrument a lot of the time, it's amazing just now realizing that some of the parts that I THOUGHT were being played by one of the guitars was actually on bass this whole time. You're a ridiculously talented musician and producer Colin, please never change or stop being you.

Goddamn. Never would have guessed this is how it's played. This dudes combination of technique and tone is unreal.

I remember reading a review of Colored Sands by the joyless conservative pedants of Death Metal Underground. Their point what that Colored Sands was an incredibly sparse, poorly arranged and meandering release, barely qualifying as metal. I knew then that these dudes either don't have functioning ears or are nothing more than rigid formalists incapable of appreciating form because of the aesthetic it's wrapped in. Every instrument play-through I have seen flies in the face of this small minded analysis. The rhythm, texture and arrangements are precisely where the structure is built, rather than in a single leading guitar riff. Everything is playing of each other in a way that makes it hard to realize that certain sounds are anchored in the bass, or the drums, or a specific interplay of techniques.

Seeing how it is played at 3 min 40 I understand why it is so unbelievably heavy in the record. Poor bass strings ...
