I'm not sure there was that much outrage over his tweet...the only reason this is getting so much attention is because it lead to this separation. Honestly though... this was inevitable... If it wasn't the tweet.. it would have been something else... It was just this tweet that lead to a conversation that was waiting to happen... and needed to happen. As far as outrage... all I saw were mostly people expressing 'distaste' for the tweet. Is that not okay? It should be... just as much as Colin expressing himself is... people should be able to express themselves when they don't like it. But I never saw anyone going ballistic... As far as the joke is concerned... I personally was NOT offended by it... nor would I care about it.. But I'm also not a woman... it wasn't directed at ME... it didn't affect me... And I think that's important to remember... And yeah I know you can probably find plenty of women who will defend him.. but I don't think that gives you the right to ignore those who have issue with that kind of joke...

“To me, it’s personal freedom, responsibility, the right to succeed, and the right to fail. And the right to express yourself freely, without having to worry about being called a bigot or being called a sexist, as I was for making a silly joke,” - Colin Moriarty talking to Glenn Beck One more time: "without having to worry about being called a bigot or being called a sexist, as I was for making a silly joke,” Sounds like Colin needs a safe space. No one is free is from criticism, no matter how innocuous what they say may seem. Myself and Pat have been called all sorts of shit for varying viewpoints on this podcast. It comes with the territory. Little champ needs to suck it the fuck up. For the record, I didn't much let this one bother me until I read *that* load of horseshit. The joke was dumb and purposely designed to agitate on that day which rubbed me the wrong way but I moved on in about 60 seconds.

The problem in terms of politics at the moment is lack of communication between the left and right. No one is debating each and backslash and vitriol is rampant. The right and the left need to talk to each respectfully to actually state policy and debate that policy. But that might be because I look at the wrong places.

Greg Miller's tweet was absolutely fucking ridiculous. That's my biggest problem with all of this. A 5 paragraph fake ass pandering nonsense essay. It reads like a god damn sexual harassment apology, or you know, something that ACTUALLY MATTERS. It was a joke. Greg has made jokes about Nazi's and fucking babies in the past, yet THIS was too far? What a pathetic state we are in.

I'm a pretty liberal Democrat; Colin made a joke possibly in poor taste, that doesn't make him a terrible person. I've always like Colin's work and maybe now I'll have a respectable outlet to see a decent point of view from someone who views things differently than me, as opposed to the garbage on Fox News (all mainstream news is garbage, I said Fox because it's the only real conservative outlet).

I've never listened to these guys but all of my favorite shows/radio personalities have been canned because someone got pissed off about something they said off air. Free Speech should mean Free Speech for all, not just people who feel they have some moral high ground. If I personally don't like what someone has said I just don't watch their channel/show/Twitter/whatever. I have never once wished for anyone to lose their job or income stream because I don't agree with them, and I don't understand the mindset of people who do.

@flower5185
@flower5185 7 жыл бұрын
I'm a huge fan of Rubin, watched every interview for the last 14 months. I have to say they're correct to call Rubin right wing. He calls himself a classical liberal which in modern terms is a libertarian. Look at his guest selection, check out where he directs his outrage on twitter. The guy promotes right wing ideas such as limited government, flat tax, low regulation, etc. That's a totally fine ideology to have, but let's call a spade, a spade. I mean, c'mon, he literally did a video on Prager U (religious conservative outlet) that's called "Why I Left the Left".

I watch a lot of their shows pretty regularly and Colin hasn't acted like his heart was in it for awhile. I hate to say that because I always enjoyed him alot on IGN. But, he had been looking pretty bored, was showing up for podcasts underprepared (Final Fantasy 15 comes to mind), and was increasingly talking about how many other things he'd rather do than game. Not a bad thing...just not a sign he was enjoying what he was doing. I'm not sure that I believe the joke was the actual catalyst. It may have been a final straw. I've been halfway expecting this to happen for a few months now.

I wasn't a fan of Colin's when he was at IGN (just seemed more smug than he needed to be as a game commenter) and never checked out Kinda Funny Games at all. I see myself as a Democratic Socialist and I tend to have bad reactions to those who feel that government should be very small and taxes should be cut completely. With all of that being said, I also try my best to check out interviews with people who are on the opposite side of the political spectrum as me as long as they are sane. Thank you, Pat for letting me know about Dave Rubin's interview with Moriarty. Colin knows his shit (even though I still disagree about certain things) and was able to speak about his position intelligently which is something that JonTron could not do. I will make sure to check out what Colin ends up doing in the future.

It's terrible that Colin has left! I've been watching Kinda Funny for the last year at least and I've really enjoyed all of the guys in their discussions together! Though I have felt that Colin had been a bit withdrawn from the Gamescast lately, I really valued what input he did give and was really enjoying Colin Was Right! Though I can't say that I blame him for branching out on his own, I just wish he wasn't getting out of games! I've never been much for having interest in politics, though I can understand his passion and knack for it. Not sure that I'll follow him in that regard and not because of himself but just because of the whole political thing. If he was still covering games, I'd certainly give the man my support as I had been. Certainly wish him all the best, though! Kinda Funny is gonna be Kinda Weird for a while....

Zeithri It's not a wage gap. It's a lifetime earnings gap. Very different things. Firstly, Trump doesn't write laws, Presidents don't have dictatorial power. Secondly, yes, it's illegal to pay people differently based on their gender.

It is a myth you fucking dip shits, men work higher paying jobs and more hours, they tend to be engineers where women like to spend more time with family, raising family, and go into nurturing type jobs like nursing. There's a few cases of executives making less, but overall the wage gap is probably on average like 2 fucking cents. Do your research, lazy assholes.
@toolshedvideo
@toolshedvideo 7 жыл бұрын
jshowa o No, you're missing the difference between wages and earnings. An actual wage gap would be illegal, because there's already laws in place against gender discrimination. This blind repetition of the mythical "wage gap" is just one more piece of disinformation spread around for political gain. Lifetime earnings is a MUCH different topic than a wage gap. This 77 cents crap is a myth. And in case you've ignored all news in the last week, you'd know that Trumps latest attempt to "write a law" was shot down again by a judge. Like I said, Trump isn't a dictator who can write his own laws. You can argue semantics if you want, but anyone with half a brain understands my point.

I think him getting booted off the podcast and site is ridiculous; sure he has controversial political opinions, but nearly all political opinions are controversial in nature as everyone's political opinions are different. Discussing political opinions online is a game of "Kettles & Pots"; you'll have opposition, name-calling, virtue-signaling, and dog-piling for expressing any controversial opinions. It doesn't matter what side you are on, you will have hostile opposition. Kinda Funny's gaming podcast doesn't discuss politics too often, either; the politics are usually saved for "Colin Was Right"

The tweet was the catalyst rather than the reaction. Colin was always leaving KF or at least taking a back seat. The guys and him were moving in different directions. While they want to create the next Rooster Teeth; he's more concerned with writing his book and talking politics. Sure Colin blatantly said he didn't want to become a Rooster Teeth sized company whereas Nick said in a recent AMA that was the dream. Clearly different ideas there. I'm personally gutted that Colin has left as PS I Love You XOXO and Colin Was Right are my favourite KF content. And to be honest many of Colin's GOG topics were my favourites as he brought up things like history, science and politics. As fun as casting a MGS movie is, sometimes there's more important things to discuss. I'm sure Colin will go on to be successful with his writing and discussing politics. I'd hope he will continue with video games in some capacity, perhaps freelance stuff for the likes of Kotaku here and there. I'm hopeful as he seemed to enjoy doing CWR. I worry for KF though. As much as they may want to be Rooster Teeth, they aren't. KF was those guys. The four pillars of Gregs passion, Colins Knowledge, Nicks Comedy and Tims work ethic. And Kevin as the foundation. With one pillar gone I worry. Without Colin, PS I Love You is defunct. And GOG will lose the balance that Colins topics bring. I hope I'm wrong but I'm not confident.

I also agree with Pat, it seems like they were just looking for a reason to out Colin from the group and they figured why not now when he made that tweet. I believe he resigned and he was going to resign inevitably and this whole tweet and him realizing how much he liked being on Dave Rubin sped up the process. Compare how enthusiastic he was to be on Rubin's show with any episode of the Kinda Funny Gamecast within the last year. It was becoming clear that he was sort of over the whole video games discussion thing. Colin was right was a step in that direction, but that's basically a weekly essay. That's not Colin just shooting the shit casually like the Rubin show was like. I think Kinda Funny could have handled the situation a lot better. I think discussing it on their own show as a group would have been better than each individual guy (other than Nick) sharing their thoughts on it. Greg said himself that Twitter is a shitty way to communicate these type of things. All he would have had to do was say "Hey we'll make it a topic on the next show". And that shuts up the few people jumping down his throat, gives the situation time to diffuse, and provides a dialogue between the members. The morning show that aired the day Colin left should have had Colin in it for more than five minutes. If it was at all possible, they should have worked something out where all four guys or at the very least Greg and Colin would be there to answer any fair questions and once again have a dialogue that provided more than just Kinda Funny's perspective on the whole thing. It's a shame Kinda Funny lost a guy like Colin who is pretty much a one of a kind guy in the gaming world. He's irreplaceable. Not only is he a funny guy, but he offered a perspective that no other professional in the gaming world has or at least has the courage to share. Political discussions are pretty much done for topic-wise for the show. As I said, it was inevitable he was going to leave, but Colin's a guy you really want to hang on to for as long as possible as he easily had the most range, knowledge-wise, out of all the members in the group. If you're a Colin supporter specifically be happy though. All this means is that Colin's doing what he's always wanted even sooner. I think Colin's going to be a lot happier.

Colin Moriarty, JonTron, PewDiePie, Philip DeFranco, it's like if KZbinrs say ANYTHING that's even hinting at or is right leaning, randos who aren't even fans will try to destroy their lives over it when they're not doing or acting out on anything harmful.

+Dumdumdumdum Dum As fucked up as what JonTron said was, they're tragically accurate and substantiated with hard statistics. That's not JonTron being racist, but instead there being very *_big_* problems right now in the world everybody is ignoring and needs more addressing. At the very least, JonTron didn't defend communism or pedophilia like the person he debated did, two things that are objectively and historically much worse than many of the things he said

+VideoGame Polak People don't seem to know what censorship is, they cling onto government blockage of information but it's simply the act of controlling information in general, even on privately owned places. For example, if a cashier embezzles money and destroys the evidence, that's still censorship. It's not simply SJW's, this has happened many times throughout histories and is a bipartisan issue, but yet, this is what's happening to many of these KZbinrs. Control the information, shame them and hide the evidence to destroy them.

+VideoGame Polak The only way for their way of harming people to stop working is if people don't apologize to them or make any retractions for their sake, and if other's stand up with those being attacks, which is happening with all of these great guys now. All of these guys are not evil people, they're not racist nor are they sexist, and they're getting the support they deserve

A lot of KF's audience that contributed to making this issue as big as it was, are gamers with a lot of spare time on their hands i.e. Kids. With Colin get airtime with Ruben, Beck and Rogan it would be a great opportunity to show the KF brand to mature audiences who wouldnt otherwise know that there was a KZbin/podcast channel that didn't just cater to kids. Tim always represented the childish side of the KF content whereas Colin was the total opposite; having the capacity to talk politics and hold his own with people outside of gaming journalism is clear evidence of this. Greg is just there as the main face of KF and he is great at keeping the camera rolling and binding the whole operation together. With Colin, KF has lost their counterweight and will surely start to crash back to Earth.

They were quick to add love and sex stuff but hesitant to add politics. That's odd and you make an interesting point about the lost opportunity. However, I believe Colin is simply too contentious to fit the positive nature of KF to ever truly be himself. Maybe it's for the best he goes and does his own thing where he can flourish in an environment of politics and calling out people he butts heads with.

He says the tweet was not why he was leaving...but it definitely seems like he did it to use it as an exit. How do you honestly not know in this day and age, especially when you are a popular personality, that something like this would go up in flames? I think he wanted out truthfully for the reasons he gave. But I also believe he was on his way out mentally and gave zero fucks. Side note: Met this dude at a past PAX East and he was a tool. Greg was cool af, though

This goes back to the Pewdiepie situation, Kinda Funny saw what happened to him and severed ties before they got dropped by their network, they also didn't want to sour their relationships with Sony and Nintendo. It was purely business, much like the Kurt Schilling/ESPN thing... Like it or not, Kinda Funny is just protecting their brand, KF and Colin didn't part ways because of 1 tweet, that tweet (and the shit storm that came with it) was just the straw that broke the camels back....

Wow, Pat nailed this one perfectly. Most gamers don't really want to get into politics. The left absolutely jumped in on it and took over. I am personally more along with where joe rogan is and can't wait for colins interview. Centrists always seem to be the faint whisper that gets ignored by the loud mouthed left and right. Hopefully, more libertarians and republican minds can come out and equal the playing field. After all, isn't it healthier to have all points of views as we evolve into a better being?

Brian Altano is a huge hypocrite. Since we like to bring up people's pasts he use to be way more vulgar, offensive, and demeaning. Not just to women, but other cultures too. Sure they were jokes and should be taken as such, much like Colin's tweet, it could be construed as offensive. However, I learned he was a huge hypocrite while listening to a video on IGN about a game being censored. The whole video was attacking gamers and defending the SJW narrative. Saying that if you like X, then you're the problem. When in reality, they're the problem. Attacking someone over a tweet or something they accidentally say just proves your own insecurities. Not only that, but you bring attention to the very thing you dislike. How dumb are you? If you don't like something don't bring attention to it. Cause it only gives it more power and relevance.

It doesn't matter if you're liberal or conservative. people are just "politic-ed out". everything ends up being political sooner or later and it's been that way for some time and it's just getting old. people watch shows about movies and video games to get away from all that shit.
