Eh, that's just life as a creator. You have hundreds of projects you spent a week on, and a couple you spent years on. Of course one of the week-long projects is going to do better than anything else you make, it has the numbers advantage. You get used to it.

Because the KZbin algorithm for whatever reason picked this video to show everyone. I've never heard of this channel or am particularly interested in short films (or movies in general) and still KZbin recommendations was like "you HAVE to watch this this is the most interesting thing ever!!" so I clicked on it, and judging by the comments, that's how almost everyone came to this video. The actual short film this is about wasn't as lucky, and only people who are interested in short movies in the first place are gonna move onto the actual video from here, not everyone who got this in their recommended.
@C4Vendetta

@@sleepysera On the flip side, maybe you are, just like I am, more interested in "behind the scenes" sort of content. I watch a lot videos about cinematography, film theory, that sort of stuff. But I don't actually watch many short films on KZbin at all.

I like the fact that the "famous actor" bit wasn''t leverage to make your film, rather the icing on the cake - the film is strong enough to have had any decent actor deliver the line. I'm sure having a 90% finished produce goes a long way to enticing someone. BTW, your amazon/STNG replicator product was SO GOOD I thought I was watching an ad before for the film started. Plus your green-screen work was superb. The best special fx are the ones you don't realise are special fx.

Congrats.

Alternative method: Don't get to know anyone, or write any e-mails. Just write the role so you can use footage of them as you hide in their bushes. "Woah, this guy got shots of Will Smith, Sean Connery, and Ben Affleck! It's strange that they're all drone footage from really high up and their only lines are 'yeah, i'll have a mcBLT' " Then again, I've won multiple awards for my tasteful rear nude shots of Jamie Fox in a shower, which I digitally added scars and blood to be from the epic battle he was in (while wearing a full suit and helmet!). [Django Unchained 3062: Unchained Again, coming to theaters soon!]

The fact he saw it and went for it meant he liked it. He’s not a starving actor needing to expand his reel, and actors of his caliber won’t risk being in a shit project with little to no pay. It’s not like he had a lot to do, but still.

I haven't tried this myself, but I have heard/read somewhere that a good method of getting an A-List celebrity to appear in a shorther even a full length feature film, is to find actors/actresses who haven't been in a film for a while. Such celebrities are keen to be seen on the screen, and if the project is something that they feel will further their career, they will be most likely to be interested in working with a good project. An actor/actress who is seen in any good role, will boost their chances of being cast in a future Hollywood film. It helps for a producer and/or director to have a portfolio of short films, that the celebrities may be interested in seeing, to get an idea of your works and the quality of the other talent you hire for your projects, and the effectiveness of your production values, look of your films, the sound engineering and directing skills.

As an artist myself I can see how terrifying it is to make these leaps of faith, especially after putting a lot of work into a project. I wonder whether Jude Law was immediately your first choice, or whether there was a lot of trial and error regarding finding that A-list celeb. Regardless, I'm sure your efforts will bring you a crap-ton of success, which you deserve every bit of.
