I can’t believe I stumbled across this video. My mom started making this cake about 1973! Got the recipe from a friend and it became a staple at all our family functions and holidays until she couldn’t cook anymore. Then I started making it. My mom usually made her icing a little runny more like a drizzle. Always beautiful! Prayers for your mom. Please be sure to take care of yourself during this time. I made a mess of the icing about 5 times till I figured out to make it in the stand mixer. Makes it perfect every time. Substitute the water for the strawberry juice in the cake mix. Best cake ever. Going through the same with my mother. God bless us all, it's so, so hard.

Linda Hastings so I get this right, you measure out a half cup of the juice and use it? The berries are juicy too. Do you let the berries strain, kind of like when we use crushed pineapple? Thanks tons! PS, am thinking if I get the icing too thin I could poke holes in the cake, not tons of them like with a poke cake, but a few and let some of that wonderful icing kind of soak into the cake just a tad. I must admit, I manage to mess things up sometimes. Am 70 years old so reckon I am kind of entitled. Haha xxx

I will make that but always make a strawberry cake and pour jello with some berries in it over cake after cooking with holes and cool whip and can garnish with strawberries on top. I never have a problem getting is of either. This I have to keep cold so firm with jello in it and your’s you could leave out for longer if didn’t get ate right away. I love to make cdd as cakes with mixes and the you can do anything to your taste. I watch your show quite a bit and others but, seem to go to yours most. I have learned a few new things and wakened up some I had stored away. I enjoy so keep up your good work.

I watch you every time you post a new video , first I want to say bless your momma and you and your family too , I know times are so hard trying to take care of the one you love so much and ascots king care of your family to , I was told about 6 months that my dear husband only has about 4 months to live , we had our 53 year anniversary this May 29 so sweet lady I know how tough it is being a care giver and a mom and a wife to your family but it has been 6 months and I still have my husband with me , the dr said. He can't believe my husband has made it pass the time he told me , I said your a great dr but God is better , he is a healer and knows when he will send for my husband until that time every time we spend together is a wonderful blessing . I'll say a special prayer for y'all just wanted you to know and I love you dear child of God

Our strawberries come from Florida and California and they don't look as good as yours. Our school cafeteria ladies made this for us school kids in the 1960's. We had a cherry cake for Geo Washington's birthday. I hope your Mama is better.

First time watching your videos. This cake looks amazing!!! Prayers for your mama. I took care of my Dad for 6 years 24/7 in our home. It’s definitely a labor of love that you are doing for your mama. Regarding your hand mixer, if you look underneath your mixer where the beaters insert, it will show you a diagram to insert the rimmed beater in a specific slot. I am thinking that is the cause of your beaters coming loose. Happy Belated Easter!

iv made this kind of cake but it was with strawberry cake and when it was done we took the strawberry jello and add 1 cup hot water to it. reserving 3 tablespoons of the jello mixture for the frosting and when the cake cooled off just a little we poked holes in it and added the reserved jello mixture to the warm cake we would put it in the fridge to get cold. next we would take the reserved jello and add i box vanilla pudding 2 cups milk whip it and get it cold in the fridge. thin take it out of the fridge and add cool whip and fold in to the pudding mix.thin take out the cake and frost the top of

If you soak strong onions slices in really cold water for about 5-10 minutes, it'll take the sting out and be easier to 'stomach'. Though, I don't. I eat full strength onion sandwiches. You just have to steer clear of me for a while. 👄💨 Or unless I eat a little lemon peel. Smelling onions before bed can help you sleep. Or so they say.

Oh, forgot this, I have a new Kitchen Aid hand mixer and the beater falls out. I finally figured it out. Each one fits in it's own hole. If one falls out, switch the beaters.

If your beater keep falling out of your mixer try switching them around. I had that problem with my mixer.

I'm highly allergic to ALL onions. At first it was just red onions and minor rashes. Then it evolved 2 yrs ago. My throat swells, sores in my mouth and hives. Cant even have onion powder. It sucks. One year between Halloween to New Years, I blew up/broke 4 hand mixers 1 stand mixer and my husband broke my hand blender. I cheat, I just toss in frozen or fresh berries in my cakes. That's how my mom did it. We didn't have it often because grandma was allergic.

Looks so delicious! I took care of my mom for 3 1/2 years before she died (after my dad died) and I know what it's like to juggle so much. I always said between us both we had a different doctor for every body part! Praying for her. Rest some if you ever can. You are an amazing woman. Can't wait to try this!
