Here in Scotland we add sugar to the mixture and call them 'scones', or 'tea scones'. We also add diced cherries, sultanas or raisins too. Great with some Homemade Scottish strawberry jam.

For anyone who doesn’t have self rising flour: 1) For every cup of self-rising flour called for in your recipe, measure flour carefully. You want 1 level cup (125 grams) all-purpose flour. 2) Add 1½ teaspoons (6 grams) baking powder and ¼ teaspoon (1 gram) kosher salt. 3) Whisk to combine.

I made these Biscuits this morning. It was the first time for me, as my spouse is the Head Chef and I am the Chief dishwasher. To my surprise, they were light and fluffy, oh my goodness they were good. I had gone out and found White Lily Flour at my local HEB Store, picked up the heavy whipping cream, and waited for a cold morning like today. Now for the pièces de résistance! My bride of 53+ years even sang the praises of my biscuits. She was most impressed. So Collard Valley Cooks - a BIG THANK YOU for the video.

I found this recipe five years ago and it is “no fail” and so easy. I had just become disabled and needed quick and easy recipes, and this was a major hit with my family. It’s the best biscuit recipe ever, in my opinion, and so flaky that it melts in the mouth. Here in Texas, it has to be drowned in butter and cream gravy!

@@sakitoby1581 All you need is a recipe and a timer. If I have something on the top of my stove or in my oven and I have to leave my kitchen I always carry my timer with me. It takes water about 10 minutes to come to a boil. I only let my pot of water boil dry one time in my life but never again. If I leave my kitchen I always take my timer with me. Now that is the most important cooking lesson you will ever get. I was that Sam’s Club in the magazine and book area and there was a young man next to me and he said I’m just learning to cook so I told him all he needs is a timer and a recipe book and if he has to leave his kitchen to always take his timer with him. Happy cooking.

Always hand rolled them and baked them!! My dad had to have biscuits with every meal!! She used lard, big ole can of crisco!! I married at 16 (nope wasn’t pregnant) and I’ve been cooking since before then. Both sides of the family I’ve always been the cook. But never learned bake those biscuits. I have to be honest, even though I grew up in the South, I was never a biscuit person. I tried this recipe and I was hooked. It's easy and foolproof even if you're not-so-savvy in the kitchen. Works great for sweet and savory dishes. They come together easily with 2 ingredients that I always have on hand. I added 1/2 tsp of salt for every cup of self-rising flour...but that's my remix. I use the leftover cream to make sausage gravy. With some sweet tea...YUM!

@@zarabees2123 You can do 425 if your afraid they will burn, they will still be good, you just might not get as much crunch / browning on the outside. 450 is fine, but it also depends on your oven, if it uses coils to heat it up you should probably put your biscuits on the top rack or put another pan under them to protect the bottom from burning, if you got a oven with a fan, or a gas oven then you shouldn't have to worry about burning at high temps as long as you don't forget about them.

So my grandma's been gone along time . I have tried over 20 years to get her cookin down . She never used recipes. She just got after it. We are from Texas and old fashioned ranch country style cookin. Her buttermilk biscuits was crispy outside and so sof inside with a little chew to them. Her eggs , I cant figure it out so light and fluffy . Now I got the chicken and dumplings down pat. Cause that was one of my all time favorites. And a pot of beans with hammock cookin all day with cornbread, got that, its a dieing art that I wish young women would have learned to carry on. It to me was the best thing ,, to come home from working hard all day to a country meal . She would get a whole chicken cut it all up and man better than KFC was so crispy, mine gets sawgy after sttin hers seemed to stay crunchy. And the leftovers, we would always make chicken salad sandwiches with it. So I'm looking tonight for her style cooking and these biscuits sure look like them how tall and the shape. She did always use cast iron to makes a big difference and over a flame.sorry for rambling.

@@anniep1511 I'll give you the Google discription as I believe it is the best 😀 Bovril is the trademarked name of a thick and salty meat extract paste similar to a yeast extract, developed in the 1870s by John Lawson Johnston. It is sold in a distinctive bulbous jar. Bovril is owned and distributed by Unilever UK. Its appearance is similar to Marmite and Vegemite. It has a similar taste to Worcestersauce (do you know it?) We use it as 'n sandwich spread. Personally I love it on fresh bread with butter, mayonnaise and cheddar cheese. VERY rich and SOOO NOT healthy 🤦‍♀️but very lekker (tasty). Hope this gives an indication.

I used just a little flour and some heavy whip cream, made just a few small biscuits yesterday. I baked them in my tiny cast iron frying pan. They are really good. I found out in October that I am a diabetic, so I can have just a small biscuit. I made tiny ones, but before I realized it, I had ate about 3 of them. LOL They are really good. I had never made biscuits and rolled them in my hands like you did, patted them with some more whip cream. Very good biscuits and so easy. I was wanting a biscuit so BAD yesterday. I love White Lily Flour, it is better than Pillsbury.

the heavy whipping cream has enough fat in it to cover no added butter or shortening, the flour has the baking powder in it already, so essentially all the traditional ingredients are in these, but skillfully combined by the nice people at the food production places.

I love your channel and love your recipes! I've made several. For these biscuits, I melt a quarter cup of margarine in the microwave and add while mixing, and also stir in a quarter cup of bacon bits and a little shredded cheddar cheese while mixing. So I end up with bacon cheddar butter biscuits and they're divine! You can bake a big batch of these and refrigerate what you don't eat fresh in an airtight plastic container and keep them in the fridge for up to 5 days, and reheat one or two in the microwave for a quick breakfast.

Thank you. I remember my late mother just pouring milk into the center of her flour and we would have the best tasting biscuits in the world. I've tried but i haven't seen it done in goodness - over 30 years. She passed in 96. She would've loved the heavy whipping cream instead of milk. I don't think she ever used it in anything. I've done several of her meals but spices them up some. She didn't get to try them but my dad loved every bite he got before he passed. I'm trying this very soon. Thank you so much.

This is by far my favorite biscuit recipe. Not because it’s easy but because it’s delicious. I absolutely use self rising flour for these and 99% of my cooking/baking needs. All of my cakes, breads, cookies, gravy…. All made with self rising. White Lily is the best. Have you ever tried Hudson Cream Flour?? I believe that’s what it’s called. It’s like it’s been sifted 20 times. Your biscuits are screaming for some of my homemade tomato preserves. 😋Love watching you. I actually use 2 1/2 c flour, 2 c heavy cream. Tell me about it 😅 Food is so expensive am becoming a vegan by force😬 and learning to forage. Nature has free food👀 meanwhile the price of most things are even doubling in price. I don't even bother looking at most bread in stores. Trying to make my own bread since the local price on even the most unwanted bread that usually gets left behind by most has also doubled their price. Love bread but there's a limit to how much am willing to pay for it. On the other hand if u bake bread now I bet you can make a fortune selling it on the streets 🤔🤑
