I actually work as a site manager at a storage place. I think the one thing that people don't realize about them is that they are designed for short term needs only. Also, the insurance isn't the best. So, you are right on the money about collections being worth enough to store. Also, depending on the state you can't actually store collections over a certain amount of value. I work for a chain, and in my state if someone were to store something like a art collection, pokemon card collection, or something like that they would be in violation of the lease. Holy cow, you hit another Grand Slam video! I personally think these topics being discussed are LONG OVERDUE. Much emphasis is placed on the collectible, but very little attention is placed on storing and care for collectibles. Thank you SO MUCH for making this video and I hope you continue this series into more videos. I dont have over 100k in collectibles, but I do have a standing firesafe that I keep my most expensive collectibles in. I hope you do a video on storing in a firesafe, and even storing in your home (out of a firesafe). Looking forward to more videos on this subject.

68 degrees!! That's my kind of thermostat setting. I get irritable and short tempered when it's too hot. I also find I have weird dreams and don't sleep well when the house is too hot. That's the main benefit for me. Nice to know a cool house is preserving my collectibles as well as my sanity! 🤣

I used a climate-controlled storage unit for a very short term when I was moving apartments. I was able to actually take advantage of their first month free promotion because I only needed a temporary spot to store things because August 31-September 1 is the absolute worst time to try and rent any sort of moving vehicle in the Boston area. It was a climate controlled unit and it was that same style of layout they mostly use. I did run into some people using that place for old antiques as well as a person running their business out of a couple units. I wasn't sure about how to state the value of my cards though. I have Alpha power 9, full sets of dual lands, and lots of reserved list cards. The rate for mine was 123 per month plus insurance. And there's a lot of things the insurance policy does not cover.

Excellent video. Regarding the risks of renting out a storage facility, I’d say the risks are likely similar for bank vaults. The inside job horror stories I’ve heard on bank vaults/safety deposit boxes, have honestly soured me on the idea. Thousands of dollars in collectibles and jewelry either stolen or thrown away due to bank indifference and insurance companies refusing to cover the loss.

Any thoughts on creating a background display showcase for future KZbin videos with a whiteboard on a stand, or a screen display with a Wacom-like drawing tablet to draw charts or graphs without having to edit them in post-production? The bookshelf is hard to read the book spines on, so I do not know if the bookshelf helps to communicate ideas relevant to your video being presented at the time. I hope this does not sound like a complaint because I am mostly wondering in the future what you would prefer to add to your video backgrounds, & what would you prefer to subtract from your video backgrounds? Enjoyed the informative video & thank you again.

good video. Everytime I google storage options for my sports cards it just discusses card ssavers and white cardboard boxes and dividers. I want to know where/how to store a collections such as off site storage, safes, or saftey deposit boxes as you are discsussing. Looking forward to more on this topic. For a card collection off site storage units does not seem to be the way to go.

My stuff is stored in sealed bin in a dark loft in a remote hilltop village. So I'm fairly sure in terms of security and climate I'm doing alright. Not to mention I have box protectors for everything, which I'm surprised you didn't mention in the video.

great stuff as usual. I want to throw out a scenario for you...If I gave you $1,000 cash as a new investor and you had to invest every cent for me, what are some of the items you would invest in? How would you diversify this $1,000 and why would you choose to do it that way. Let's say my goal was to triple my money in 3-5 years. I think one of the biggest issues I have is that I'm really tied to the video games and vintage toys, it's my comfort zone when it comes to buying these items and other categories can be intimidating to learn. I don't feel as confident in other investment areas so I neglect them which probably isn't the smartest strategy.

I remember episode on storage wars when they found a so called nes-101 in a storage unit and they thought it was rare and was the first nes off the assembly line, then they went to get it appraised and it was broken and only worth $10.00 and come to find out that was just the model number, man that was hilarious. So all nes's are nes-101's

Have you been following what's going on with GPK? It's absurd. Opportunistic Topps just released a new Chrome series as well as an online exclusive Sapphire series and it's caused a mini explosion. I'm following a thread on blowout forums where it's all these sports card flippers who have no idea what GPK is getting hyped up and talking about how this stuff is going to keep climbing. I'm trying to tell them that GPK is only relevant to a very small group of 80's kids but they won't have it. Would be curious to hear your thoughts in a video.

Aww crap so I’m gonna have to have my air conditioner running 24/7 during summer to keep my collection of video games in pristine condition??? Damn that is gonna run up my electricity bill real fast. Well I’m already in the process of increasing my rooftop solar. I live in a low humidity climate so with the upgrades I have in mind I’m thinking if I can beef up the insulation and make sure rain has no way inside I can keep my collectibles well preserved. In addition to planned measures to keep light off them for times when they don’t need to be displayed. The info in this video is very useful and in depth. Especially the science of preservation. I sure as hell am glad that I’m not relying on off site storage. I had no idea how many vulnerabilities they can have. That was really chilling to hear about the sorts of inside job robberies that can happen in them. I used to use a storage locker a few years ago and I can totally relate to them mainly being tin boxes packed right next to each other. I didn’t have anything hugely valuable that thieves would target but if I did it could have easily been stolen by someone renting the unit next to mine and they’d be able to slip thru security with ease.
