Collecting and Sowing Primula bulleyana Seeds | Candelabra Primulas | How to Propagate Primulas

In this video we are collecting the seed from Primula bulleyana, one of the candelabra primulas which has fiery yellow/orange flowers in spring. This is one of our favourites along with Primula beesiana and Primula japonica 'Miller's Crimson'.
We also explain why were are sowing the brown seed now, and the other different times the seed can be sown.

Now I know why my primula seeds have never germinated. I've not left them for the cold spell and after a few weeks I've always used the compost as a mulch thinking that the seeds had failed. Primulas come in such gorgeous colours. Love purple, red and yellow flowers together. Thanks for passing on your knowledge. I've always found that people who like gardening are very generous and don't mind sharing. Have a great weekend.

I have a half seed tray that is now crowded with tiny P. bulleyana and P. beesiana seedlings which were sown last autumn. Some of them look big enough to transplant into individual pots, but the majority are still a bit on the small side. When do you find is the best time to prick them out, and from there, plant them into the garden ?

We saw the amazing display of primula varieties at the Harlow Carr garden at Harrowgate. We come from Canada, so the taller varieties are not seen. Bought last seed package in all the RHS gardens we visited. Now growing, about 3 inches. Hope to be first in my town with them! Thanks for informative video.
