I recently got a single cowslip from a plant swap. There's a couple of stems. I love them too and am so pleased to finally have one of my own. And hopefully more in future! My soil is shallow and not great but hopefully will be fine for the cowslip. I want to get more and more native wildflowers as I think they might be most suited to growing in this country and are hardy and easy to look after. But there's also the fact the bees love them and I love them. I have a small garden close to town surrounded by two fairly busy roads but despite the fairly urban setting I get lots of insects visiting. And a cheeky wood pigeon likes to steal all my raspberries!

@@theflowerfarmer thank you! I grow herbs and I have a surprisingly large crop of lavender each year these days! Your place looks fabulous and peaceful. I felt joyful when you said you had yellow rattle. I've recently planted some ragged robin and birds foot trefoil and I have a patch of wild garlic that's up at the moment. I'm pleased with what I am creating. Gardening is such a wonderfully rewarding activity.

They are also edible. Romans made so much cowslip wine they almost eradicated the plant from england

I just watched this as I picked off the fading flower heads of our small patch of cowslips without realising that the seeds were still pale green. Can I keep them or dry them or sow them or should I just lift and divide the small clump? Guessing that I should have been patient regarding the seeds.......?

Sow seeds green - I bet they germinate but they’ll take a long time so don’t despair - you can also split clump if big enough x

@@theflowerfarmer Should I sow them now or another time? Apologies for all the questions haha. Not sure if the clump is big enough.....it had about four flower spikes this year. Thank you in advance if you have time to reply x

@@michelecobb2 sow the seed now green - maybe don’t split the clump - the seeds won’t germinate for aaaaaaages but don’t give up x

I spread my cowslips seed yesteryear and now I can see little seedlings that I hope are cowslips. 😅
