I remember being a little kid and scraping mica off of rocks and being amazed. Thats when my fascination for rocks started growing.

I just went hiking here last week. I haven't been to the lower quarries, but I have been to the Harvard Quarry at the top of the mountain

Maine has such beautiful pieces. The Harvard quarry tourmalines are absolutely amazing. U won't find black tourmalines (schorl) like them anywhere else.

I use to go to these mines all the time, and the Harvard across the street and up the mountain. My favorite find at the Tamminen was a bunch of pseudo cubic quartz crystals. Your video is bring back fond memories.

Not hard to pronounce at all! 'Wise-a-nen' and 'Tam-i-nen' . Just need to break down the syllables. Does that "nen" ending sound much like Finnish hockey player names, eh?

Ha! As a first-time visitor to these mines (and being from the Midwest), I did not want to risk offending anyone with a nomenclature slip. Thanks for the tip.

I just did a bit of research out of curiosity. It appears that there are several acceptable ways to pronounce Waisanen. May say that it is "WAY-suh-nen" or others say it is "WAYS-e-nen". Potato, tomato, and now Waisanen. I need to talk to Frank Perham.
