Wife and I were there. We came home with some nice stuff I'm using an engraver to chisel the garnets out of some of the rocks. The walk carrying buckets and tools and rocks back to the car can get long and heavy. I wish we lived closer, we were in Maine visiting family, and we live in Iowa.

Years back ( 1967-68 ) my grand father and I would go for the day to a place called, Mt. Mica. Lot's of tourmalines, garnets, crystals and obviously , Mica.

I mined at Mt .Apatite from 1982 to 1996. Maine is full of mines, and during my time there, I went to 12 different mines. Oxford County, which is where the mines are, has over 1,500 different minerals, so no matter where you go, you will find something.

@@StandingStones1776 mica books can be used for all sorts of things. I use them as bases/stands for other rocks. I use them in art works. With moss sticks. Crystals. Wire bones. .. I mean it depends on

@@StandingStones1776 I know some one who makes beautiful jewelry out of mica. And other beautiful artworks from it. I’ve made sun catchers out of it. Soooo many uses for mica. It’s cool stuff.

@@StandingStones1776 you can grind it and use as glitter., or add it to paint to get sparkles in the color, put it in a home made soap and it acts as a natural grit to help clean you hands deeply

Good video Brian, just started following you a short time ago. Started tumbling rocks about a year ago, and one thing led to another, now I want to rock hound! Was glad to see we have something up here in the northeast. All the videos I see are out west, or Michigan, and they walk around picking agates, jasper, chalcedony on the ground. Thought all we had was granite and garnet! That tourmaline you got was awesome! I live in the 518 also. Just saying 😉

I'm glad you enjoyed the video, hopefully this will help. If u park by the military base and baseball field, walk straight in across the dirt field past the military base youll get to rhe trail head. Follow the trail in, short an easy walk you'll see places everywhere u can pick around.
