Let's Go Flying

Күн бұрын

In this episode I am collecting my new (to me) Eurofox G-NIKS from Otherton. I am joined by James Walker from Attitude Airsports who is a highly experienced instructor. James also instructs on a Eurofox so was the best man for the job when it came to helping me get this new beast home and get me up to speed!
The weather was marginal but always legal.

@@LetsGoFlying It’s truly a very friendly airfield. Everyone is welcome. On most weekends when it nice, it’s very busy due to its central location. I believe we have around 50 + aircraft onsite . Many pilots camp at the airfield ⛺️ through out the summer months , so evenings are also busy too into late evening pm. Many of the guys love your channel here too. We love your passion for flying and you journey. Hopefully if you fly in to Otherton again on a weekend over the summer, I buy you and your passenger breakfast 🍳

Recently came across your videos, Nick, and am working my way through them. Entertaing and very well produced & edited, with all the "right" camera angles. I tend to fly a PA28 or C152 but do like the look of the Eurofox and the C42 👍

That is very kind of you to say, thank you! Definitely get yourself into a Eurofox if you can - they have a very GA feel to them and are extremely capable little aircraft, particularly under the new weight regulations. At 560kg MTOW they have around 280kg payload capacity, which for a two seater is huge!

The Eurofox is looking very good Nick. Looking forward to watching your adventures in it. What does Anna think of it? 👍😎
@LetsGoFlying
@LetsGoFlying 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim! Thanks for watching! Anna is in two minds currently - she was very attached to MEGZ and I inherited a couple of issues with NIKS…one of which almost caused quite a nasty accident that turned out to be a carburettor issue. I had the carbs overhauled immediately where the issue was found and the plane is absolutely Bob on now, 100% but it will take a bit of time for Anna to build up the trust in it. It is definitely trickier to fly than my last 3 planes as it is a lot more slippery. Not something that would bother you at a big airfield but the sort of little strips I fly in and out of you have to make sure you really nail the speeds on approach or you will just float and float. It’s swings and roundabout though as the trade off is a 100kt cruiser with ample space for luggage and 86 litres of fuel capacity! It’s all a learning curve though and I am getting used to it! I have no doubt I’ll be able to land it as short as I could MEGZ, with practise!

Thx for sharing. Interesting to see the difference in need of rudder from one plane to another. I kind of like the Eurofox but with water coming in, it sounds a bit flimsy. In my (very) limited time on a Eurostar I had the feeling it was nice and tight and felt very solid. How come you gave that one up in favour of the Eurofox? Keep posting, very entertaining and educational!
@LetsGoFlying
@LetsGoFlying 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! I sold the Eurostar to buy the C42. My concern at the time was residual values due to the new 600kg rules. The C42 was a great all rounder and very docile but the slowest of all and the Eurofox gives me back the Eurostar visibility and speed (if not a little more speed) with huge touring capability due to going up to 560kg (my application has already been sent off!) having a huge luggage area and 86L of fuel capacity. Regarding the water, I think the lexan on the doors has been replaced leaving half a mil gap or so. I have since fitted a door seal to each side and this has stopped the water from coming in!
@downwindchecklist6567
@downwindchecklist6567 2 жыл бұрын
@@LetsGoFlying Valid point that of the residual value. The later Eurostars were already built ready for a change in legislation, but I am not sure from which year. Thx for sharing your experience and thoughts, it helps the rest of us in our own through process. Keep posting!

Hey Nick, enjoying your videos! I’m currently in a syndicate of a Skyranger Swift and love it. But noticed you’ve had a EuroFox and now the Nynja. Why the change and what do you prefer? Also, any aircraft finance recommendations? Cheers, Rob
@LetsGoFlying
@LetsGoFlying Жыл бұрын
Hi Robbie. I love the Nynja. It’s such a great all rounder. Not as fast as the Eurofox but more rugged and easier to fly in my opinion. I think honestly I don’t get on with flaperons too well! I did a review video on the Nynja recently where I went into more detail. I finance aircraft for a living - www.buckleyaircraftfinance.co.uk - feel free to get in touch to discuss. We are the UK’s largest aircraft finance brokerage and we finance 3-5 aircraft per week during the busy periods!

Nice to see something different from the usual microlights, what the cabin like for shoulder room, looked a little tight? I fly a Skyranger with fixed doors and thats a little tight if there are 2 my size in the cabin
@LetsGoFlying
@LetsGoFlying 2 жыл бұрын
It’s not bad, space wise actually! It didn’t feel cramped. The Eurostar did feel very cramped and C42 was just huge. This is somewhere in between I’d say. Thanks for watching!
@musoseven8218

Nice aeroplane. Is the extra rudder due to the motor (100bhp?) or the flapperons? My dad was never quite convinced by them in his MK1 Kitfox🤔🤔😲😄😄 I'm no expert, but I think, if there's an aux (electric) fuel pump fitted? Put it on for take off, landing and anything up to 1000'. Each to their own though. What's the cockpit like for drafts - has it got a heater (those types of doors always seem to leak air, water or both)?🤞🤔🤔👍😄😄
@LetsGoFlying
@LetsGoFlying 2 жыл бұрын
This one is 80HP but it needs plenty of rudder just due to its handling characteristics. Having flaperons as well it is not recommended to be making big roll adjustments with the flaperons on final either. Yes I do use the fuel pump for t/o and landings myself usually. The cockpit was a bit drafty, however, I have added some foam door seals which have done a cracking job of sealing them off!
@musoseven8218
@musoseven8218 2 жыл бұрын
@@LetsGoFlying Thanks. I was going to suggest some bespoke or adapted single sided self adhesive foam seals - that's good news you've got a result. Indeed flaperons take some getting used to. I can't remember if a lot of rudder was required for the MK1 KF, it was a taildragger so a lot of footwork is usually involved regardless. 80bhp is plenty I would have thought🤔🤔👍🤞😊😊 Good idea re the fuel pump - or else what's the point of it, it's, at the very least, a double redundancy back up during tricky phases of flight👍🤞😊

@@LetsGoFlying your instructor indicates correctly that you should hold the shaft of the throttle with finger tips at the panel end and the butt of your hand where the knob is. Keeping this explanation as simple as I can, hold the throttle length with your hand not just the end as this gives you incremental control and stops any overuse in turbulence. In your video all you do is just hold the knob end with your fingers - not great. Now do you understand.
@LetsGoFlying

@@alianjohnson6035 there’s more than one way to hold a throttle! We’re all different and find our own ways easier and/or more accurate and that’s a matter of opinion that is down to the individual to decide but thanks for sharing your opinion.
