I had the castle and pirate sets! This brings back so many memories. Back in the late 80s and early 90s, my friends and I would spend hours building all kinds of crazy stuff. I always thought the Lego horses were the coolest things ever. I wish I still had it, because I'm sure this set would be worth quite a bit of money by now.

They make the most money with overpriced licensed sets for collectors with a very limited production quantity. Kids are not their customers anymore.
@SxSxG6663 жыл бұрын
@CaptainHeckYeah When it comes to their ethics Lego proof to be flexible. They historically say that they don't make war toys. Yet they had published pirates, knights, star wars and war planes (with civil stickers) and they point their finger on competitors who are morally corrupted enough to sell our kids tanks. It is only marketing blabla. I am a kid of the 80s and Lego was my favourite toy. Back in the days everybody had a big box full of Lego bricks you could build your own worlds with. Nowadays the sets became a lot more expensive and you get a lot less bricks. They totally lost the focus on creativity. They just want to sell their licensed sets and everything else is secondary or got doped completely.

Lego died in 2004, the body might have survived but its soul was gone.
@boski0klusek3 жыл бұрын
@@CatOnTheCouch I wouldn't say that - nowadays LEGO is making great sets - Creator, Creator Expert and Ideas are marvelous. In my opinion the Golden Decade of LEGO were years 1987-96, then one series after another became too juniorized, or just too lazy and we had the Crappiest Decade of LEGO. But at least since 2009 we once again recieve some good stuff
@CatOnTheCouch3 жыл бұрын
@@boski0klusek I think we can all agree that the most ambitious days of Lego were gone, the reason Lego almost fell apart in 2004 was partly due to it been too ‘innovative’; its old sets such as the Technic ones were packed with too many costly features, which might be great for the consumer, but not so good for the business as a whole. To keep innovating or not, that was the question. Apparently Lego chose to give up its children-centric focus, in turn for creating more sets aimed towards the young adults, whom had deeper pockets than your regular toddlers. Take the Creator line for example, it used to have a lot of the bucket type free-style building sets for young children, but in recent years they were all but disappeared, what came after were the single-themed sets, great as they were for display pieces, however not so much for free-style moc builds. If the recent retirement of the Creator Expert name (now is just 18+) is any indication, Lego would not want a simple child to go anywhere near a product that is geared towards the more ‘sophisticated’ (and financially sound) adult. The Ideas line were all the works of fans, Lego just took the idea and paying them 1% in royalty. Sounds great but is just another way to save money on the designing process (which can be costly and time consuming), and let its avid followers do the hard work for them. The Technic line used to be full of original and unique designs, but after 2004 more and more IP/OEM licensed sets were been produced, and many of them cost a fortunately (the 1:8 hyper car series in particular). Parts count in the flagship sets continued to go up, but in term of functionalities vs value they really fell short, the ‘classic’ sets were tiny in comparison, but they were feature packed and really designed to be played with, most importantly they were not costly to own(even after adjusted for inflation). In conclusion, is today’s Lego a successful business? Absolutely! But does Lego still treasure children and their development over all else? Not so much. Lego set are becoming more and more like luxury goods (who would have thought investing in Lego sets can be a thing right now) and decorative pieces, rather than keys that can unleash one’s imagination and creativity.
@boski0klusek3 жыл бұрын
@@CatOnTheCouch Well I can agree with most of your arguments. 30 years ago they could design sets, with so few elements (compared to today products), but with very creative use, to make some fun mechanisms - I still very much like 6986 Mission Commander and 6989 Mega Core Magnetizer, both sets had approximately 500 pieces, but had sooo many features... I'm old now, so maybe that's why I like the Creator Expert line (nice sets to put on display). However, I recently started to buy LEGO to my son, and there is a line that can be treated as continuation of the old "LEGO Basic" - it's called "Classic", and I can honestly recommend this series, as an oldschool creative bricks. Check it out :)
