Collective Security system guarantees the security of each state of the world against any war or aggression which may be committed by any state against any other state. It is like an insurance system in which all the nations are bound to protect the victim of an aggression or war by neutralizing the aggression or war against the victim. Collective Security is currently regarded as the most promising approach to international peace. It is regarded as a valuable device of crisis management in international relations. It is designed to protect international peace and security against war and aggression in any part of the world. Criticism Against Collective Security: 1. It is Idealistic in Nature and Scope: 2 At times it is not possible to identify the Aggressor 3. Admits War as a means: collective security war. 4. Rules out ‘Neutrality’ in times of War. Thank you for such an informative lecture ma'am!! By collective security we mean a system by which states attemp to prevent or stop wars . Its a mechanism where an aggressor against any one state is considered as an aggressor against all other states. Acc. To Palmer & Perkins " Collective security clearly implies collective measures for dealing with threats to peace " . Collective security runs over the principle of ONE FOR ALL AND ALL FOR ONE. Concept of collective security is different from that of Balance of power. Balance of power is a concept of power or military might . However , there are certain criticisms that came forward with respect to the field of collective security acc. To which collective security is simply a pipe dream which is historically & theoretically not useful !!

Collective security arrangements have always been conceived as being global in scope; this is in fact a defining characteristic, distinguishing them from regional alliances such as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
