Advice about studying (and this one might hurt): stop highlighting, stop making aesthetic notes, and stop rereading. There are lots of people on KZbin who have talked about the scientific literature surrounding active recall, but the two best methods are spaced repetition (like anki) and self testing (practice problems and practice tests). This is especially true if you’re doing any sort of science or analytically minded classes. Your recall and problem solving need to be on point to do well on some exams that can go quite fast.
@cilantroisbetterthanparsley3 жыл бұрын
Very true. I lost so much time doing these things, because that's what worked for me in highschool. But at uni, you do not have the time to do these things anymore. Active recalling, test quizzes and loads of practice questions are the only things that will make you pass an exam.

another tip: make friends both in your major and outside of your major. having friends with the same major has helped me immensely with career-related and academic advice, and it's really amazing to see so many people who have the same interests and aspirations that you do. however, i've found that socializing primarily in my major (since it's compsci) sometimes creates a level of pressure and imposter syndrome, since a lot of compsci majors don't have a lot of time or interests outside of their field. i think this would apply with premed as well, since i know a lot of the study community is from there and it requires a lot of dedication. (props and big respect to y'all tho, it's super hard and important work.) anyway, it's important to socialize outside of your major so that you have an aspect of your life that isn't tied to your future at all. it's really easy for your studies to take over your life and it's easy to forget to have fun, and having friends outside of your major helps a lot with that. college will be hard at times, but u got this!

Great video! I am so happy you mentioned the importance of speaking with an academic advisor. It is so important.

i go to my teachers at office hours in highschool years and elementary years because i just love hearing about their experience in their subject field, how they got there, what were their hardships. The teachers were also very happy to talk about it and were very open to me. i am very glad that i can still do that in college, communicating to professional people has been the most fun thing i do and it also takes alot of stress off for both parties.

Your advice and perspective is always so thoughtful. I’m a college instructor and it’s really helpful to me to hear the student side of things! Thank you ☺️

the thing about doing your major classes first is definitely interesting but as a nursing major that’s literally not an option. at least at my school we have classes that you have to take based on what year you are

preparation is key! 1. Academic Transition: College classes may seem intimidating, but they're manageable with preparation from high school AP classes. Expect higher reading loads and a shift towards critical thinking and writing. 2. Textbook Tips: Avoid buying textbooks before class starts; campus bookstores are often overpriced. Wait to purchase until you're sure you need them, and explore free PDF options online. 3. Utilize Resources: Attend office hours to build relationships with professors and seek academic support. Don't stress too much about grades; focus on learning and networking. 4. Course Planning: Plan your schedule strategically, considering major requirements and general education courses. Consult academic advisors early for guidance on course selection and long-term planning.

as someone who just graduated with their bachelor's degree and is now a graduate student at georgetown getting an MS, i wanna add to ur comment on GPA that you don't need a 3.6 or higher for grad school, really anything above a 3.0 works as long as you can show that youre involved outside school!! gpa really means nothing, its just an indicator of how much time you put into your schoolwork really so don't let it eat you up!!

I start college in two weeks terrified suffering with extreme anxiety and depression. And tbh I’ve never studied. Any time I would try my brain just doesn’t retain anything I forget so easily. I failed every test and ap test lol yet passed high school with a 4.0 gpa :/ idk how I made it but college I don’t think I’ll make it
