I am originally from missouri so I used to love the smell of outside when tornadoes would come. It’s very distinct. And the sky looks kind of green. We’d always sit on the porch and watch until it got to crazy and then went to the cellar.

That category 5 tornado hit my hometown of Newnan, Georgia and destroyed a lot homes and buildings. It did a lot of damage to my old high school too. My husband always teases me when there are tornado watches/warnings, but I’ve been in a few in my lifetime and they are seriously scary! So glad it didn’t hit you guys.

I hate having tornadoes! I lived through really bad ones and I never want to again! We had 5 of the 9 touch down in our town and one was like an ef-5 or whatever it’s called! I storm chaser did a video and said was the deadliest tornado he has seen! Love you Lauren!

So this video brought back memories of the tornado that hit my college town back in March of 2007. I was at Georgia Southwestern in Americus GA. It was my sophomore year there and I was staying in Duncan Hall on the Kappa Delta floor (you didn't have to be in the sorority to stay on the floor). My brother was a freshman in the dorms just down the way from me and we shared a car and cellphone, I kept the phone and he held onto the car most of the time. Well I will never forget being in my room and the cable went out, we knew the storms were there but we had no idea a tornado was coming, so I went to go read for one of my classes. I kid you not my power went out 2 minutes later and my window (which was cracked at the time since the heater was still on and it was warm outside) flew open. I ran downstairs with the rest of the girls on the floor to the "basement". Our dorm was divided into 4 towers A,B,C and D and I was in D. The rest of the dorm came to our tower and hunkered down until the all clear came through 30 minutes later. Pretty soon new came that it had hit 2 streets down from us and that it hit the hospital, and took out the Winn Dixie shopping area. I of course kind of panicked because I couldn't get ahold of my brother for almost 2 hours and he liked to go down to the Wendy's at that shopping area. Luckily he was fine and we met up the next day because the university said that if we could go home to do it and not come back until classes started again on Wednesday. We went home and came back Tuesday night only to come back home for spring break that Friday. Literally something we will never forget. Oh and our schools mascot was the Hurricanes, we almost petitioned to have it changed to the tornados after that night.

@@TheLaurenNorris I was scared that night as were the rest of us especially since it happened while it was dark. But thinking back on it 14 years later it really wasn't as bad as it seemed. I mean it was but it wasn't. Compared to the towns in Alabama that got hit that same day we were lucky. A lot of trees down and some structural damage around the hospital and the shopping center but thankful no one was seriously injured from what I remember, for that we were so thankful.

I’m in Florida and really freak out about tornadoes. Y’all are very calm. We don’t have basements here though so you’re SOL. The last tornado I think we had was back when I was in grad school (2019 or early 2020) and I was about to leave school and our program director was like.. nope. No one is leaving (one of the other students actually saw the tornado out the window).. so had to wait there until it was done.

I live in Newnan, GA and this same tornado came through our city and tore our city apart! The president came down to assess the damage of city because it was so bad. Our city is still cleaning up damage a week and a half later and we are no where near done. Some homes were without power for almost a week, my apartment complex was without power for 18 hours. It was very scary and definitely devastating for our town. It’s so sad to ride through town and see how badly damaged some of the homes here are! 🥺
