That's pretty crazy that I'm not really even a college basketball fan, and I had the same lineups cuz some of these Duke guys were iconic. Grant Hill, JJ Reddick, and Laetner without a doubt. Hurley was on the team that beat the 1992 Dream Team. I agree that Zion doesn't deserve to make the team because he just used Duke as a vehicle to get to the NBA. I'd take Shane Battier as my lockdown defender. JJ would get me the be plenty of offense. Laetner was unstoppable in the middle. And Grant Hill would be the best of both worlds. Hurley running the show.

I guess it depends on how you look at it, but it seems like Laettner set the standard for what you're looking for in the All-Duke team. A great and talented player that was the greatest winner in the post-Wooden era and answered the bell multiple times when it really mattered. This is again why I don't feel like JJ Redick belongs on this list. He went to 3 Sweet 16s and a semi-final (where he shot 4-12 in a very close game).

I think it's hard to justify Irving's inclusion since he only played 11 games in his one season. Also Trajan Langdon was a good player but there are many better than him in Duke's history that deserve inclusion. I think j.j. Redick, Bobby Hurley and Jay Williams are all more deserving then Langdon. The three players I just mentioned all won ACC and National Player of the Year honors whereas Langdon did not. Though I must say Langdon's first name, Trajan, is definitely among the best first names in Duke's history.

I think Laettner and Jay Williams are locks. They have the individual accolades and championships to make them locks. I think Grant Hill is probably a lock as well. He has the titles of course. He won ACC player of the year though he didn't win national player of the year like Laettner and Williams. I think after that you could start making cases for plenty of players. Battier is interesting because he won a title and was also part of the amazing '99 squad taken down by UConn. He also was an ACC and National Player of the Year. However, when it comes to raw talent he's a notch down from players like Hill and Jay Williams. I think JJ Redick has a great case. Like the other players mentioned he won ACC player of the years award (twice) and shared national player of the year awards with Adam Morrison in '06. Also when Redick's college career ended he was, at that time, ACC all time scoring leader. I think Zion is the most interesting case. He only played one year obviously, but he did win ACC and National Player of the Year and it is undeniable that he completely dominated the college game. Had he stayed 3-4 years with similar production he would be a "slam dunk" for a spot (sorry). But even with only one year I'd have him competing with Battier and Redick for the 4th and 5th spots. Another player a few people have mentioned is Elton Brand who is often overlooked. Though that '99 team lost in the finals to UConn it has a case for being one of the best Duke teams ever. And Brand was without a doubt the best player on that team. Like the others he was an ACC and National Player of the Year. I think he just misses the cut as either the 6th or 7th best. So my list would be in tiers. I have Laettner, Williams and Hill in the "Shoe-ins" tier. Next would be a tier with Battier, Redick, and Zion. Any two of the three would be fine. I haven't thought about who would make the next tier but it would certainly have Brand, probably Bobby Hurley. I'm sure there are others worthy but I can't think of them. All in all Duke could field not just an amazing starting five but a ridiculous roster 1 through 12.
