In 2022, Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker and three others were taken hostage by a gunman at a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas. Motivated by conspiracy theories about Jewish power and influence, the terrorist contacted Central Synagogue's Rabbi Angela Buchdahl to demand the release of an alleged al-Qaeda operative. For 11 hours, the world watched the standoff until extraordinary acts of bravery by Rabbi Cytron-Walker and the hostages enabled their escape.
The events of this harrowing day are captured in the new documentary Colleyville by award-winning director Dani Menkin. Featuring never-before-seen footage, the film serves as both a warning about the rise of modern-day antisemitism and a powerful testament to Jewish resilience.
Join us for a talkback with Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker and filmmaker Dani Menkin, moderated by Isaac Zablocki (Executive Director of Film Programs at the Marlene Meyerson JCC of Manhattan).
