21:01 Wtf are you talking about? There are so many reviews breaking down their problems with The Last Jedi. Did you not know of these? Because there are dozens of them and people in the comments are talking about it in detail Ash... So go there maybe? Ffs...
@hargibson18
@hargibson18 6 жыл бұрын
True there are, fair point. But I think what she is getting at is the (what I consider to be) MUCH larger volume of totally non-detailed or constructive criticisms of the film. Just a mountain of "TLJ sucks!" "Rian Johnson ruined Star Wars!" or like the comment below from omnimetabell "no one is complaining you shills! Episode 9 sucked and the fact that you can't ge through any Jedi Council podcast and not be able to get to the agenda without constantly reinforcing you're failing position that somehow this was a good movie is pathetic. Stop it with the straw man arguments." THAT kind of comment is not a review that breaks down their problems, in fact it doesn't say a SINGLE thing about the actual damn movie. Its just PURE negativity with no purpose other than to harass people with different opinions. That is what she is talking about, its toxic for the sake of being toxic.

@AaronWatkinsEKSELAN
@AaronWatkinsEKSELAN 6 жыл бұрын
I think it's important for the "Jedi Council Members" to realize there were not "a lot" of people who disliked/hated TLJ. Almost all the people who disliked TLJ are self-proclaimed "SW fans" at a high level, i.e. fans who watch shows like this. WE ARE A MINORITY! Most people who buy tickets to the theater for these movies are not hardcore SW fans like us. We make up maybe 2% of the American population, being generous. Now out of those hardcore fans, I do think it's fair to say the fan base is split. But what that would mean is only ONE PERCENT of people (who saw it) actually hated or really disliked the film. Now I'm not saying it was everyone's favorite or that 99 percent LOVED the film, but there's a big difference between hating a movie and just feeling like it was decent. (For the record, most people actually DID have positive feelings about this film) As we know, social/fan-based ranking sites like Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB, etc are far from iron-clad and frankly don't mean very much due to their crowd-sourced nature. A site like CinemaScore is widely regarded as a more accurate measure of fan response to a film. TLJ received an A on CinemaScore, which is an elite score on that site. And no - this is not from critics. They get their score from interviewing regular movie-goers. My point is, TLJ was a success by virtually every measure and it has been exhausting hearing Kristian Harloff (idk if I spelled that right) bring up the "divisiveness" of TLJ or saying Disney should be nervous, etc, WEEK AFTER WEEK. I've enjoyed watching Jedi Council for a while now but I'm just asking you to recognize that KZbin commenters (like myself haha) DO NOT represent the majority of movie goers. In fact, the majority of us who actually take the time to comment on videos like this are huge nerds. I think the truth of the matter is Kristian just didnt like TLJ or reads too many social media comments and dont get me wrong - that's fine if someone doesn't like TLJ. But when that personal feeling turns into a perpetuated narrative, it becomes difficult to continue watching the show. So I'm just asking that when you talk about TLJ here, please stop putting your spin on the situation because of your personal bias against the film which becomes more evident week after week (talking to you Kristian). This has become literally the ONLY place where I continue to hear negativity about TLJ, the SW franchise and the SW fan-base, and I used to come here for a good time, not to get bummed out : )

Jeremy Palencia I completely agree he is a great director and I hope success for him continues but every time a new superhero movie opens with success they automatically get attached to be the new favourite to direct a Star Wars movie. Personally, I’d rather Coogler stick to films like Creed. I loved Black Panther but I feel he has so much more to offer from his independent work which I’d rather see him do.

I was very upset with Last Jedi after my first viewing. What I came to realize was that I wasn't unhappy with the film for what it _was_. Rather, I was upset for the film it _wasn't_. I spent two years writing episode eight in my head, and the movie we got wasn't that film. Once I accepted that, I went to a second viewing and watched the movie for what it was and...my gosh, I love the Last Jedi. It is incredible. It isn't the safe, boring Star Wars movie I and many others dreamt up in our heads. It's bigger. It's better. It's flawed, but so is literally every other film in the franchise. I'd rate it in my top three, if not my top two.

No not really, just look at the click-bait title discussed in this episode. "JJ Abrams says people who dislike TLJ have a problem with powerful women." Despite what the actual question was, this headline messaging was clear - If you don't like TLJ you are anti-woman.

Dularr I can't speak for the way they title their videos. I'm guessing that comes from Kristian, even though he clearly doesn't like the film as much as Ash and Ken do. It's terrible how toxic fandom can be a lot of the time.

It's hard to take this show serious when they seem to never want to say anything that the movie studios take offence to. Sorry but I have a hard time thinking these guys liked TLJ. The movie was like going to a concert with your favorite band and the band playing none of their own songs and only covers to give you a "twist". It really did suck but not becuase I hate women but that the story...... character development sucked........... and just the choices they made through the movie. Like Acbar dieing like that. Can you imagine how much more powerful the suicide run would have been if it was Acbar that did It? But nope we get a chick we don't even know so we pretty much didn't care when she died. Just things like that............nut up guys and tell how you really felt about the movie!

You can’t teach or fake charisma it could just be that his body language is off honestly but I’m not sure I just know to me it doesn’t seem like Han Solo. I hope this Han Solo movie is a hit too but we will have to wait and see.

The entire problem with that scene is how it is edited, not how he says it. To be the most effective, it needs to cut from Han to someone else in that cockpit, who looks either relieved or skeptical, then back to Han to finish the line "we're fine now." then have the jump scare.

Literally the last thing that I want from Ryan is a Star Wars film. He already has a billion dollar franchise at his fingertips of which he has ownership and total understanding of the world and characters. So, why would he leave? Seriously! Unless his absolute personal dream is to helm a Star Wars film, this makes no sense at all. Completing a Black Panther trilogy Spielberg style and mixing in smaller, socially conscious films in between would be the best thing for him. I really hate this Star Wars status attitude that feels like the equivolent of "political elitism" in which every filmmaker hasn't met their full potential until they've done a Star Wars film. Let's be real, at this point the MCU is just as much or more highly regarded than the Star Wars franchise. Times have changed.

Kathleen Kennedy is not gonna hire a black director. She doesn't even give a shit about poc in the films. They get sidelined, ridiculed, and their roles get diminished in favor of the white characters. She hardly ever addresses John Boyega and Rian Johnson made his character out to be a punching bag and a joke. Its is clear that Rian found it a burden to write for the character. Notice at 32:39 that Ken only mentions Rey when TFA was a film about Rey and Finn who was originally supposed to be a co-lead until Rian got in the picture. This show doesnt even acknowledge Finn so what would make them think Rian would join the franchise that is so under represented? He'd want to highlight people of color and Kathleen has no interest in showcasing black actors.

Directors like Patty Jenkins, Ava Duvernay, and Ryan Coogler prefer making smaller, personal films. They’ve done big films like Wonder Woman, Wrinkle in Time, and Black Panther, in order to give them power moving forward. Now Jenkins and Coogler can make any film they want. They already have a Star Wars size hit on their resume.

How can anybody describe tlj as thick??? The whole resistance storyline had no substance and the conflicts were completely contrived Whilst the Luke Rey storyline was cut way too short and didn't manage to explore much beyond the surface layer, could have been great and "thick" if it had been given a bit more time and less jokes

I think he means thematically. Which I would agree. I think there was plenty of time between Luke and Rey. The meat to me was Rey and Kylo. Hell, just on the amount of movie ripoffs and references to film alone I would describe it as thick. I never cared about plot in the main Star Wars episodes. It was always about moments and cultural motifs. TLJ has plenty of those while still maintaining the appeal to children. If it no longer makes you feel like a kid as an adult watching it... you probably need to move on like the movie itself was pretty clear about.
@qswaefrdthzg

auxilliarydrain I do agree that the Luke/Kylo/Rey was storyline had its interesting moments. The exploration of the stagnation of dogma and the need for evolution was well-developed but it could have benefited from a bit more screen time. It was presented in an interesting way, though it was constantly undercut by misplaced slapstick comedy, I can chalk my dislike of porgs to having grown up but this is just bad writing. The "themes" in the resistance storyline were, however, so blatant and in my face that I just couldn't see past them. Go save the animals from bad capitalists, I completely agree but do you have to rub it in my nose so much... Rose's lovy-dovy message at the end tries to contrast Poe's action in the beginning but it was essentially what Finn was trying to do in the end, protecting what he had learned to appreciate over the course of the movie... In the end protecting what one loves can imply destroying what one hates, the message should have been more along the lines of "do not become what hates you" but they had to go with the Disney version of that line, which is a bit too open to interpretation and might be misconstrued as do not fight against what threatens you and your most profound believes which I would even regard as dangerous... And Holdo: we have to show our feminism by her treating Poe both as a stereotype and a piece of meat, in the process making her an incompetent commander... One can write the female heroine role well, e.g. Wonder Woman a movie a love, but this is just a bit too much propaganda for my taste... The movie has a few redeeming scenes but they don't save it from being too obviously moralistic in a way that none of the original six were nor from 2/3 of the movie's plot being useless and even less from the bad humour that destroyed many a potentially memorable scene

I am just getting sick and tired of hearing one-sided praise for the Last Jedi when, in fact, half the movie going audience, including myself, didn't care for it. We need to see that happen on this show, which we faithfully tune in to watch every week.

I'm not sure we can make the generalization that half the audience didn't care for it. All the reliable data we have (Cinemascore, etc) pointed to the general audience being very satisfied with the movie. A section of the fanbase is certainly not happy with it, that's true, and they're very vocal about it.

geo neo The problem is half the movie going audience didnt have problems with the film. Half the hardcore FANDOM had issues, yes. But lets be real, only about 2 percent of people out there are SW nerds like us. So basically, about 1-2 percent of people who saw the film actually hated it/disliked it. The average movie goer actually loved this film (demonstrated by its box office performance and "A" rating on CinemaScore)

Easy for me to say its my favorite, this movie was the closest to what inspired all of this stuff in the first place - Buddhism, Taoism, The Hero's Journey. These were the building blocks of SW and this film got to the meat and bones of it - "The Force is not a power you have ..." I think a lot of people needed to learn that!

Yes, I agree that if you search for negative views of the film you can find and receive validation from them, no doubt about it. And some of those criticisms are certainly legitimate. Many are factually inaccurate and easily disprovable, such as the claim of 'nothing from TFA is followed up in TLJ'. But the Council have noted their issues with TLJ, on many occasions, weekly I'd say. But overall they like it, as Ken says it's now up there with his faves. I share that opinion. As Star Wars fans we want to celebrate the community, not tear it down. To do that we have to move beyond "TLJ sucked".

Brad Wright how is that a conspiracy, she clearly liked the direction he was taking it which was in line with her own. She interfered with RO and I thought it was just okay. If you notice the fact that they diminished so many characters roles like Forest Whitaker’s and the fact that the trailers are nothing like the movie then you know massive changes were made. I didn’t hate RO or anything, I thought it was a decent one time watch, way better than TLJ but that’s not my point. My point is she interferes with the movie making process and would probably screw with the movie Coogler would want to make so I hope he stays away until she’s gone and tbh I don’t think he cares about Star Wars anyways. These type of speculation always get brought up by Jedi Council when a director has an amazing film.

Sorry Ken, but The Last Jedi is not dense. It's bad screenwriting at its finest. The number one reason why people don't like The Last Jedi is because it doesn't respect the characters and mythology that came before it.

It’s just a bad movie. Period. Yeah it looks pretty but the script is dreadful. Absolutely dreadful. Plot holes and inconsistencies, contrivances, unclear motivations, cheesy as hell, overly long without any right to be. The people who like it just *want* to like it because this is the only Episode 8 we’ll get. None of those people can actually give you a reason for why they like it, they’re in denial and try to rectify it by just saying platitudes like „it’s dense“ or „it’s layered“. No, it’s none of those things it’s just a lot of style with very little substance. Just because the film‘s pretty, has „moments“ and is supposedly „edgy“ and „bold“ doesn’t equal it’s a good film. The only thing bold about TLJ is that is as bad as it is.

My mixed feelings about The Last Jedi are more to do with the new trilogy being more of a reboot than I was hoping for. I was hoping for more of a sequel trilogy that would have dealt with what came next after Return of the Jedi. Instead, The Force Awakens gives us a new chosen one (nobody important), a new empire (unexplained), a new dark lord (somewhat contradicting the previous two trilogies). The Last Jedi skirts these issues then clears the table making it a somewhat frustrating experience.

streetsamurai A lot happens in The Last Jedi, but because few of the major plot advances are related to what was set-up in The Force Awakens it can feel like not a lot happens. For instance, Rey, and who she is is of great interest to Kylo Ren - Snoke in The Force Awakens. Maz asks Han "who's the girl" we don't see his answer because we follow Rey as she has a vision, and though Luke's 5 minute stare is left purposely ambiguous he didn't seem to be stuck in uffish thought. But all that was a red herring, well, Snoke knew the light side would pop out someone to counter him, I guess. that's how balance works right? powerful darkness and powerful light I guess if there's only the light side that's bad too. What happened to the Dark Side being unnatural and the Light side being balance. I dunno anymore. All of these things were left half done on purpose by J.J., I'm guessing because LucasFilm didn't want to box in the next movie, which wasn't even started then but they're still half done in VIII and here we are. ...sorry for ranting.

I want a Witcher style Star Wars Game, set in The Old Republic. You have a light side story and a dark side story, both of which would be canon stories. That way they can get Revan back into canon, maybe even bring in other Old Republic characters into canon, which would spawn a whole new line of canon novels, bringing back old writers from legends to write new stories in this new canon.

Stella Carpenter I think WB should be producer driven like MCU. Being Director driven is what started their issues with Man of Steel. Then they doubled down on Zach's vision for DCEU with BvS, then after mixed reviews execs scrambled to do reshoots with no true vision while Justice league was already set to film and Suicide Squad was already done. Kinda hard to switch from Director driven to executive by committee driven mid stream. They actually need a separate studio division and a Head honcho like Kevin Feige with a cohesive vision. Then they could use creative directors and give them broad stroke parameters to meet in order to maintain cohesive storylines and overall "tone" for lack of a better word. If creative directors know certain boundaries then they are able to be creative and work their magic as long as they hit specified objectives in conjunction.

Andre' Cannon Everything you said is kind of true but a big part of their problems came with the overexposure of their characters. Yes, maybe having very popular characters gives you a boost in sales. But it leaves you open to a lot of scrutiny and criticism. Don't you think it's weird that amongst the four studios Warner Bros, Fox, Sony and Disney. Warner Bros had the Justice League characters. Fox had the X-Men. And Sony had Spiderman and his surrounding cast. What I am saying is back before Movies made comic book heroes. Into what they are today my uncle said that the other studios had the famous heroes. But in my opinion less scrutiny gave the chance for the Avengers to thrive. Where as Warner Bros was scrutinized. Fox and Sony had the same treatment. I mean do you really believe that every Marvel/Disney movie is perfect. No but if they were one of the more famous characters the critic's of every bad movie would probably have already destroyed the marvel universe. Or maybe I am just exaggerating.

If it wasn't for Ken I would stop watching Jedi Council. I'm getting really tired of all the TLJ hate and don't understand it. It's a great film and did what many fans wanted...was unique and did not rehash like TFA did in many ways. Is it a perfect film? No, of course not but not many films are. I personally love both films and appreciate both LucasFilm and Rian Johnson for giving us something truly unique and for taking chances that I don't think many filmmakers would have (ahem JJ). For me TLJ ranks right behind ANH and ESB as the best three Star Wars flims ever made. I also think the film will age just like ESB did. I have memories of many people saying how boring ESB was and how stupid it was to put a Muppet in a live action Star Wars film. Now its rightly applauded as not only a great Star Wars film but one of the best films of all time. I am excited by the prospect of Rian creating his own Star Wars trilogy and not being boxed in by decisions out of his creative control.

Canto Bight plot wasted all of our time and was on the prequel level (in a bad way) especially with that terrible chase scene. All the new characters were pointless and we could have used better development with the characters we loved from TFA. And I think if we would have gotten the movie that everyone seems to really one out of the last Jedi that message would have not been able to be expressed in a way that was understandable. He wasn’t trying to prevent the thoughts from coming into his mind, they were already there in formulated into a plan scheduled for execution in less than 12 hours. The corruption had already happened by that point. This left him with a very difficult choice, he could’ve killed him then and been done with it, or he could’ve waited and let them kill him and everyone else. The decision that he made was to creep in with the saber and then he realized too late that that was the wrong move. He had no intention of murdering him he was going to use the saber as a negotiation tool.

Kristian is so wrong about the fan divide. If you look at any credible professional survey/poll, it's about 90% approval among audiences casual and hardcore fans. He's focusing too much on the negative, with the audience reception and the movie itself. I haven't heard him say anything positive about the movie, and he apparently likes it. If he likes it, why is he just focusing on complaining about it? There's your wishy washy problem solved. Stop being so negative. Ignore the vocal minority. Focus on what you enjoy about it. Done. And Kristian saying he's seen a lot of people voice their dislike for the film reasonably... Dude what? I haven't seen a single proper criticism of this film at all. It's all knee-jerk reactionary, childish, insulting, judgmental, condescending towards the film makers and the audience that enjoyed it. Just goes to show again that the divide is not there. Haters will claim it's because he secretly despises the movie, fans of TLJ will say that he's only sticking to his established rating of 4/5. It's kind of a lose-lose, but no doubt about it the toxicity has hit him in a bad way.

Christian you have a 6 yr old daughter and still can't see TLJ with the eyes of a child? You have to put the man-baby-fan thing aside to see it through a child's eyes. It was made for kids. The depth however iOS for smart, thoughtful adults. It's inly too dense for those fans who can't see past what they wanted and didn't get, to see what IS given to kids to grow with (and eventually totally understand the themes and under belly and importance of this film. The old films don't hold up as much as folks say if you go back and watch them today, (although still and always beloved), even giving credit to the effects being great for that time and ground breaking but the performances not great and the scripts themselves, really just ok. TLJ will stand the test of time however because it was a good movie not just a Star Wars movie. And like the OT, is was written for kids. But instead of you and others seeing it that way, the parts that are more for kids are what the man-baby fans hate

OK as a very long time fan as I was 17 when the first movie came out, and then had to resort to reading 100's of books to get my Star Wars fix, between the extremely long wait for a movie to come out. First, I was pissed after my first viewing of the TLJ, then saw it two days later and came out, kind of understanding, and now can't wait for the home release. I believe, if you watch multiple times you pick up more and more and appreciate what is presented. Those that hate are just that, narrow minded hatters.

I've loved all of Ryan Coogler's films. Does that automatically mean he should do star wars? No. It depends on what story they're telling, Coogler's passion for the project, the tone they're going for, etc. Ryans directing style, even with black Panther, is really grounded, delving into the underbelly of the real world. If that's where star wars is going, it'd be interesting, and I'd like to see it.

Simon Smith so Luke was able to curve the laser blast into the vent shaft to blow up the first Death Star wasn’t a big freaking stretch? Luke just learned about the force the same damn day they got captured in the Death Star! He was beside himself with anger when obi wan died but was stoic when his uncle and auntie were murdered and burned too death. Yea it set him on his path to be a Jedi but he wasn’t angry when they died like he was when this old man he knew nothing about died! Everyone was amazed with Kylo stopping a laser blast in mid air but Luke did it with no training and just finding out about the force the day before! Oh yea he didn’t have those same powers in Empire because vadar was throwing crap at him and he had no idea how to stop it. Vadar senses Luke is strong with the force in the trench run but doesn’t sense it in Leia?!?!?!? REALLY?!?!?!? Someone that’s able to force choke a man to death in Vadar needed a drug needle to interrogate Leia?!?!? Really dude?!?!? That spits in the face of Sith/Jedi lore!

People like her get bashed because they use comments like “people just hate it and give no reasons why” as her statement of not getting why people hate it. She is just ignoring the legitimate criticisms, which is fine if she doesn’t have them herself but when people say stuff like that they deserve to get bashed. I find it hard to believe that over the course of the last two months that’s all she has heard when it comes to the complaint. I actually find that the people who don’t like it offer up valid complaints and the people who just blindly love it call people the haters. So there are obvious problems on both sides and imo more so on the people who blindly love it than hate it

If you're a true SW nerd like myself I recommend reading The Hero's Journey by Joseph Campbell (or at least watch a video where someone breaks it down). This is the book that inspired Lucas to create SW. It will help you understand Luke's character in the film and the entire franchise to be honest.

Hi Aaron. Yes I'm pretty familiar with Joseph Campbell's work. I got into him in the 90's. It's not the principal of the sacrifice, its the execution in the film. In my opinion Luke wouldn't go into exile to die. Call it fan service if you choose, I wanted to see him wield a light saber one last time. :-) RJ just didn't care about the continuity of the story, he just wanted to do his thing. He was trying to be deep and shock people. Trying to make an art house film instead of a popcorn flick. His choice but I don't have to continue to support it. I hope JJ returns to form. Peace and blessings my friend.

Matthew Wood who revealed that the famous [Wilhelm scream] sound effect was not used in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which marks the first time in the history of the beloved sci-fi series that we haven't heard someone belt out the distinctive scream. So why the change? According to Wood, it's like Kylo Ren says; "It's time to let the past die." Here's what Wood had to say about it. "In this movie, we decided to move from the Wilhelm scream. We're letting the past die, as Kylo Ren says."

Hey guys. Why don’t you go through the comments and actually address some of the fans problems with TLJ. Start with mine, which deals with the skill level of Rey. This his not only TLJ but TFA also. How is she so powerful that she can challenge the most seasoned of Jedi? It seems to me to be completely absurd considering that the Luke, the greatest Jedi to ever live as per George Lucas, was no match for anyone until he was trained. I believe JJ left that to be addressed in TLJ but Rian Johnson blew the whole thing up and tossed it away. I still think JJ can bring that back and solve it in episode 9. But if he fails to do this it will be a big issue to plague this trilogy forever.

Is Luke not pretty powerful/capable/talented in A New Hope? A kid who grew up on a moisture farm on Tatooine, with no combat experience, flies an X-Wing straight at the Death Star (the most heavily armoured and guarded place in the galaxy, besides Palpatine himself perhaps) and blows it up. I mean, bulls-eye all the wamprats you want in your T-16 that isn't gonna prepare you for a space battle for the fate of the rebellion and galaxy over the death star. INCLUDING, Darth Vader himself joining the battle. I know that isn't quite the same thing you're taking about, but I think it is also fairly unrealistic given his level of training compared to what Biggs or Wedge surely had prior to the battle.

I understand what you're saying, but if you can say "the force" for Luke then why can't you say "the force" for Rey. The movie is the Force Awakens, clearly refers to Rey. Snoke and Kylo even discuss this numerous times over 7 and 8. "Darkness rises, and light to meet it"

They should make the Kenobi movie loosely follow the No Country for Old Men plot line where, like Chigurh and Bell, the protagonist and antagonist never meet, but the atrocities of the villain (Vader in our case) make the hero (Obi Wan) realize it's just past his time, and the world has grown darker than the one he knew. It would maintain continuity of the "when I left you I was but a learner" line; it would provide that look at Anakin fully becoming the Vader we see in OT; and it would honestly be emotionally interesting and complex.

Well said! TLJ make my brain hurt. I just want a movie to make me laugh and go oooohhhh ... aaahhhh. I don't want to think and actually reflect on my life when I see a movie for crying out loud. Get back to the basics of shoot-em-up, slasher fun!!! More light sabers! More battle scenes! Luke should've just force blasted all those guerrilla walkers! Would've been so much better than "inspiring the galaxy with hope" BS. And no ignite the green - stupid! Snoke should've killed crybaby Ben Solo and ridiculous OP Rey. Then we could've gotten Super Snoke vs OG Luke in 9! Imagine if they did like a super-saiyan version of Snoke!!!!! That wouldve been so awesome! But now we all have to deal with this emotional crap about feelings and legacy and hope and AAAAAAHHHHH it makes my head hurt!!! SW going soft! Disney killing the franchise! Hopefully JJ comes back and just starts blowing s*** up!!!!!!! Rey vs crybaby Kylo death-match!!!!!!!!! Force ghosts vs sith ghosts final battle scene lets gooooooo!!!!!

Its moronic to hate the film just for pushing a female agenda. But you cannot deny it subtly exists. Poe, Finn, Luke, Kylo, Hux, DJ are all written as hot-headed loosers. While Rey, Holdo, Paige, Leia, Rose are all portrayed as flawless heroes. “The force is female” - Kathleen Kennedy I have no problem with more females characters, but make it seem natural like Black Mirror. The female characters in TLJ feel a bit forced. (Pun intended)
@luckyday8522
@luckyday8522 6 жыл бұрын
None of those female characters you mentioned were flawless, that's your prejudices getting the best of you man. Yes, it's often the case where hot-headed men need to learn to just sit back and let the ladies handle it, that's definitely a thing in this movie. But the men also all get great hero moments at the end after they've grown and matured, don't forget that. The whole 'force is female' thing is taken out of context, it was said at a gathering of young women. SW has always been a tremendously male-dominated (both with fans and characters) franchise, so some legwork is necessary to level the field a bit if SW is to remain relevant in our culturally progressive world.
@williamQUIQUEREE1

Lucky Day Politics and personal agendas (progressive or conservative) don’t belong in Star Wars. Like I said, I have no problem with more female characters but don’t just do it so you can appear progressive. No matter what your politics are, wether you’re left or right, you should be able to love and enjoy these films. Star Wars is fantasy, not a political tool.
@luckyday8522
@luckyday8522 6 жыл бұрын
But SW was always political, and valued strong female characters. The original trilogy was always about standing up to oppressive regimes. I mean, a band of spear-yielding natives helped take down the Empire. Lucas was always working with the idea of how dangerous large corporations and power structures can be, a very liberal value. Maybe that wasn't your takeaway, but it's always been there, and I think Lucasfilm should carry on that tradition. Besides, they're trying to make filmmaker-driven movies. This just happens to be an issue important to Rian Johnson, and other artists that come along may prioritize other values.

Reminds me of how Holdo's sacrifice was praised, but Finn's sacrifice was ruined for no reason. And how Poe's sacrifice got him slapped by a general. Very professional, Leia. IMO if you want Ryan Googler to direct a Star Wars movie, I think he should write it as well, start from scratch. I think his writing and storytelling abilities are stronger than his directing skills, which could (should) improve over time. I think Black Panther is well told overall, with strong characters, but the editing, pacing and cinematography (during several fight scenes) are a bit rough and clunky.
