I wanted to see her not be a tragic character, but to reconcile with Roger and reveal the truth about whether Burke Devlin was David's real father. She looked fabulous on screen, and nailed her role.

What a great interview. These interviews are as intriguing as the show, if not more sometimes. I love hearing each actor bring their onw life experiences to the show. I love her connection with David Henesy. Being newly pregnant, she was probably being especially maternal towards him.

@@11redlions Look at the ratings from then. The Phoenix raised the numbers high enough for at least 26 weeks--according to A.B.C. They went to Dan and told him he had 26 weeks to up the ratings so he introduced Josette's ghost. The ratings went up a bit, Bill Malloy's ghost and the widows made them higher. Laura's appearance took them much higher and the network told Dan that they were high enough for a 52 week run and after that they'd see if the ratings were still good. Then Frid came and the ratings exploded, as we all know and the show lasted almost 4 more years but Laura actually saved it from cancellation and won D.S. 1 of those 3 years.

Actress Diana Millay mysterious LARA Collins character added a chiller effect to DARK SHADOWS as the fiery Phoenix coming to reclaim her son David from her husband Roger. Scary, that portrait of Lara & David surrounded by fiery flames was so haunting. Awesome, legendary Ms. Millay is a great talent and seen her often on PERRY MASON another gem Classic TV Series.

All of the actors were great on that television show, had to look up Ms.Millay on KZbin and discovered this interview which is a real gem, such quality, such beauty she carries with each glance of those eyes, and with each word that was spoken, enjoyed your personal perspective and all of the personal inside information Diana, thanks! Diana Millay was excellent in Dark Shadows and a wonderful part of my very favorite show. The first year is no less fabulous than any of the Dark Shadows sets and then of course the wonderful return of Laura in 1897 segment. In the interview I find the manner in which Diana Millay so identifies with the character of Laura Collins curious, claiming that she didn't even have to act because she "was" Laura Collins. Laura Collins was a frightening, wicked, woman who deceitfully and very frightenly connived to take her earthly children to hell. The character was certainly not designed to uplift the audience into some lofty belief in reincarnation as Millay claims, it was to be an evil archetype in the storyline. I love Dark Shadows for the way that most of the characters were inflicted with human conflict through their various curses; but the Laura Collins character, though a character with very interesting depth was yet one of the more purely comic book evil forces, such as mostly were the Humbert Allen Astredo characters and also the Count Petofi figure. Millay's excellent portrayal of the caring mother was a frightening juxtaposition to the true evil intent of the character.
@thomasromano93212 жыл бұрын
Diana Millay's hero god was Ra the Egyptian Sun God. She was very frightening and evil, but when she came up against Lara Parker as Angelique she got beaten. Angelique emerged the victor in that contest.

I wonder how the DS writers came upon the idea of the Phoenix-certainly it exists in occult literature but relatively unknown. Because of the popularity of Barnabas even many DS fans forget Laura Collins was the original evil being on the show.
@evangriner4117 жыл бұрын
I think it came about when one of the writers decided to take Laura, who was originally supposed to be from Phoenix, Arizona, and made her an actual Phoenix when Dan Curtis decided to take the show in a more supernatural direction.

Wow. This broad has absolutely no filter. She also seems to be rather unstable. This is the first time I've heard anything negative about Louis Edmonds, for example. I think we need to take Miss Millay's statements with a grain of salt.

@@fxcamera1 She does seem "a bit off" and slightly full of herself. When compared to all the other actors on DS, her acting seemed rather mediocre to me. Louis Edmonds, like Jonathan Frid, was a classically trained Shakespearean actor and could act circles around Diana Millay. He and Frid had such amazing stage presence, they didn't even have to say anything. Both phenomenal. Diana? Meh.

Nice interview and such a great actress. But I don't think it really was necessary to talk about Louis in that manner. Many DS actors faced similar challenges. It would be more diplomatic to just point out the good points about someone, and just leave the rest out.

I tell you who I think was a great actress, the child actress Denise Nickerson. That little girl was an old soul, wise beyond her years. She was so professional and prepared. She rarely, if ever, flubbed a line and often carried a scene with several lines of dialogue. That little girl cried real tears and could emote better than most of the adult actors. I am amazed by her maturity and ease in front of a camera at such a young age. She was a natural. There are a few scenes where she and Jonathan Frid are the only ones in a scene and you can see how impressed he is by her acting. She was absolutely amazing in some scenes. So sad how her parents squandered her earnings and the sad way her life ended. RIP Denise. I hope you found peace. 🌹
