I really didn’t like Light the first time I saw him because I thought he was trying to trigger his opponent by taunting. That’s also the vibe I got from Marss taunting his opponents this tournament. I think what a lot of people are missing about Ganondorf, is that his greatest strength and passive ability is Fear. Light had several opportunities to close out the final stock, but hesitated every single time knowing that one mistake or wrong move could potentially cost him a stock. And since Nairo had already won half the fight by making Light scared of what Ganondorf was capable of, all he had to do was take the necessary hits and trade blows until he could outlive Fox.

Just the act of picking him in and of itself is a mindgame, because players typically pick him either because they're memeing, or they understand how to play him and are a legit threat. And like the true villain he is, making a bad call against Ganon or getting indecisive will cost you dearly.

Nairo is a very aggressive and more importantly very confident player, he takes major risks and because he trusts his character and his game knowledge they can pay off in some pretty glorious ways. When you see a very confident and strong Ganon who can take you from 0 (essentially) to death in 3 seconds while at 150% it makes you second guess a lot of your moves and actions, which will heavily benefit Ganon because any hesitation will result in giving him space to rack up a quick 60 death percent. Ganon needs to come out rarely because if Nairo plays him too often people will catch on and get used to it. That and Ganon isn't a particularly excellent character in high level play. He relies on fear and confidence.

I feel like the chokes are honestly part of the match up with ganon. You get so scared because if your spacing is just a little bit off you could die at nearly any percent. ganon is super weak offstage but people get scared of dying from the uair that they stop trying to edgeguard and just go for the ledgetrap

I think the character is just designed perfectly. Ganon strikes fear into his opponents, just as ganondorf should. It’s something beyond matchup knowledge, players just shit their pants when Ganon gets going.
