After much debate we've decided to revamp the outside of the camper and paint its crusty white exterior in a more modern grey. My dad bought an old boat one year and we spent a whole summer taking it apart, stripping all the paint off all the mahogany, and varnishing the whole thing. It was a long, painstakingly project that just never seemed to end. When it was all done, it looked almost brand new. Watching these videos is reminding me a lot of that project and I can certainly tell you that I can appreciate the work you are doing to disassemble, clean up what has been neglected, and put humpty dumpty back together again. @@taraohais.973 it was an old boat that sat in a corn field for 20 years. It was common for them to be made out of teak and mahogany in the 60's. They were absolutely beautiful when restored, but a lot of them fell victim to neglect and dry rot. Seeing more of the pop up campers ..have always loved this idea. Just didnt work for our deal. I still like the simpler the better So solar shower for you. I bring our solar shower and will use it for dishes too. Were not as energy efficient as your out fit ..but love the freedom of staying out for a couple weeks at a time . As long as the feed n water last for the horses. Enjoying your reno journey always get ideas from others projects. Thanks for videoing🤠

For you water pump, checkout battery powered water pumps on amazon. Typically used on 5 gallon barrels.

about the pump - while human power/simple is always a good principle, you might not ALWAYS want to pump yourself. Is what is getting pumped only for use in the moment? like, when you want to wash a dish in the sink, you want water running? or is it that this pump system would be filling a reservoir or running a shower? And is power consumption really a concern? you have a giant engine with 12v right there.

There are two helper cats though they look very similar because they are siblings 😁 Ricky (shorter hair) and Lucy (longer hair.) We slept in the camper for the first time last night (in the driveway lol) and Ricky was loving it. He uses the little side doors to get in and out. Thanks so much for the kind words. This series takes a lot of time and hard drive space to edit but it has been a fun process.

Outstanding! Renovation or restoration, I can see tons of thought went into all aspects, better to get it perfect while in "dry dock" I think I see the direction you are going with power since we saw the Jackery teaser (think it was on your Insta) 1K watt? and reducing propane plumbing to just stove 👍 I see more and more van-dwellers going to Diesel heater for Heating. Like as in backpacking I wonder how much weight was shed during this process? Bonus point to Tara for the Hair flip. 😂🤣

She made sure that her hair flip stayed in the final edit 😂 Yup, the Jackery 1000 will be our battery. I've been testing it recently and am very impressed so far. I just finished wiring it into our DC fuse box and it runs the fan and house lights perfectly. The real test will be running the fridge as well. Thanks!

@@BackcountryBanter I bought the same Jackery just as COVID was busting out they had an intro $200 off sale. great choice I love mine, I bought a mini 12v pot for boiling water and a 800w 110 hot plate, haven't purchased the solar yet, we truck tent camp so probably will go suitcase style solar.

Nice! Good to know that it has been working well for you. Is your hot plate an induction burner? I've been considering one for our setup. I still need to research power usage on those though. I have been using the Jackery solarsaga 100w panels and so far I think they are excellent. They fold in half and are very easy to set up. They have a little kickstand to help angle them towards the sun.

How did you get the stickers off of your camper. I saw you used some kind of buffer wheel ? Mine are super hard and super stuck.

It's called an eraser wheel and essentially a large rubber eraser that spins on the end of a drill. Here's what we used: amzn.to/3hSGIbC

@@Jmisslyn It is very similar to a pencil eraser in texture. It doesn't normally take paint off but I did notice that if I pressed it very hard it could wear down thinly painted spots. I'd say so long as you don't apply too much pressure you will safely remove stickers and not harm paint.

In part it was to coat and protect the camper and any exposed metal screws. I wasn't a fan of the fading white exterior so it was very much for aesthetic reasons too.

Not yet! We're waiting to get on the road and learn more about it as a camper 😁 Kind of like getting a trail name.

Curious to know why you got rid of the fridge and don't want the water pump.

Our plan is to run the entire camper off of solar and a 100amp hour battery so our main goal is energy conservation. We will seldom be at established campgrounds with access to power so the less we can use the better. The 3-way fridges that come in these campers (despite being adaptable) are not very efficient on 12v power so we sold that and will be getting a 12v cooler style fridge that should be very power efficient. Same with the water pump. It is a bit power hungry and was pretty overpowered for our needs too. A foot pump will use no power and will give us a nice hands free ability too. It'll likely help us save water as well. In the next episode we will remove that huge AC on the roof and replace it with a DC fan for the same reasoning.
