Yes it was useful. And yes, this demonstration was asking for a concrete example. Glad you will address that (hopefully) next time.

Thanks so much William. I’ve been thinking about when and how to introduce more concrete examples. My workflow is to work, or consider working, in all the tabs. I also am not trying to ‘finish’ the image in 3DLC, as I have effects I like to apply using Photoshop and several plug-ins. I am inclined to go over the curves and 2D curve panel and perhaps one or two other things and then once there has been a basic explanation of the panels continue the series with ongoing concrete workflow examples. They are coming!

Thank you Howard. After the AB grid to remove unwanted color I use the offset, gamma, gain rings most frequently in 3DLC. I rarely used the SMH rings in LR preferring to color grade using gradient maps in PS, which is SMH color grading. I like the results I get with offset, gamma, gain and thanks to your explanation I better understand how the controls work.

Thanks Tim. I’m really pleased the explanations were helpful. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Very informative with great explanations Howard. I like your use of the simple gradient to demonstrate the effects. And the alternative 3way mode looks like it is worth some exploring. Thanks for this great series of videos.

Thanks so much Mark. I appreciate the kind words. And I agree that the 3way method is worth playing with. It can give interesting looks!

Have you used offset, gamma, and gain for color grading? If so, how do you think it compares to the shadows, mid-tones, and highlight method? If not, is it something you might like to try?

Yes, I would. In fact I tried it this evening on a street photography shot. I wasn't totally convinced, but this may be because I am still learning the software which, as you know, is not for the faint of heart :)

Thank you again for bringing some insight to the possibilities of the program, especially within these submenus. I don’t see myself using the rings that often, to be honest, as playing around with luminance and saturation on specific color’s will in most cases be my starting point when post-processing a picture. But it certainly is a nice-to-now-about feature for a quick cinema-like grading etc. But then again there are other (quicker) ways in LUT-Creator to copy the (color)style of a picture.

@@WilliamLesourd true…it isn’t for the faint of heart lol. But it is fun experimenting with and seeing what interesting effects you can get! I have found that a light hand on the rings can add some nice feel to images. But it does take some getting used to for sure. And it can give some unique looks different from Lightroom and Photoshop.

@@sebastianwehrstedt600 thanks Sebastian. As you obviously know there are quick ways for 3DLC to deconstruct and copy the grading from one image to another. It can do so many neat things!
