You can excuse Pooh wearing a shirt but the act of having pants lets us know that there's "stuff" to hide and yet he still chooses to be half naked at all times.

In the original illustrations for Winnie-the-Pooh by E. H. Shepard, Pooh doesn't have any clothes. He's just a bear. None of the animals wear clothes. The addition of a shirt for Pooh was done by Slesinger, who purchased marketing rights for the USA/Canada and added a red shirt. I would guess he did it just to add some striking colour, as colour was being used for the first time (Shepard's illustrations were just pen and ink).

I wholeheartedly agree that smokey the bear is much more lewd. Both the fact that he feels the need to wear pants but doesn't wear a shirt implying that he has *something* to cover up, and the WAY he looks at you is so intense, like he's daring you to ask. 😅 Ceri is right that Pooh is just full of fluff, and the shirt feels like a cute fashion statement from a little ole honey bear. Also, Sam's description of Donald Duck's butt had me rolling! What a fun open! 😂

Yet another poem that makes me want a coffee table book of all the intro poems.... If I comment about this idea enough, do you think it might happen? Which would take more of my time? Watching every episode and transcribing the poems just so I can have my own personal coffee table book.... or commenting on every episode moving forward saying what a good idea it would be and try and make it happen that way... These are the questions that haunt me.

That opener almost got away from you guys, that was awesome! Also, Smokey the Bear clearly has had thoughts. No pants is lewder, in the context of humans at least, but Smokey definitely has the sex thing going on
@heartyunho0716

Also also, Winnie the Pooh is not meant to be a real living bear, he is a child's stuffed player thing whereas Smokey is meant to portray a living creature who would theoretically have something to hide with those pants. I feel like Winnie the Pooh is also meant to be a child or at least childlike and Smokey is an adult

Watching through the Tangents backlog, and listening to the history of the English word "color" is so interesting. I can't help but compare it to my other language, Ojibwe. While English is largely a noun-based language, Ojibwe is largely a verb-based language and that extends to colors. Anyone interested in linguistics, I'll share a bit here! We have a few set verbs around color, that essentially translate to "to be X color" (ex. waabishkaa means "it (inanimate object) is white") but we only have those verbs for black, white, red, blue/green, and orange/brown. Every other color is talked about by using a suffix added to another descriptive word. So for exampled if you were describing a dress that was a pink, you would use other things the same shade. Like the wild roses native to our traditional homelands are a light pink. So you would perhaps describe the dress as "being wild rose-colored" by adding the verb suffix -aande, which you stick on anything to say something is colored like the thing you attached it too. So you'd say it is oginiiwaande, or wild-rose + connector sound + verb suffix for "colored like."

I feel like color emotions change over time. Like if you paint college rooms yellow because it makes people "calmer and happier" but you have a lot of bad experiences in college, they may start associating yellow rooms with negative emotions. and that weird pale teal blue color in hospitals makes me nervous and so I don't like things that are "hospital blue"

Actually you're right! There's something called the ecological valence theory where basically how you view a certain colour depends on a cumulative experience (positive and negative) with objects that are in that colour!

Synesthesias see colors with emotion. Red with anger, etc.
@ficmatagaea7813
@ficmatagaea7813 22 күн бұрын
There are also synaesthetics that can see colour when they see letters/numbers, hear sounds, smell something, feel something, or taste something! The one we have the most for right now is for the one with letters/numbers, and it tends to be quite reliable. Also, another fun fact is that they can actually tell apart whether the colours they see are actually in reality or not, and even then, there are those who don't see it in their minds and know it somehow! The ones who can see the colors are called projectorsn

I am obsessed with red uniformed teams beating blue uniformed teams! Is there an ultimate powerful color uniform that will always win? Or is it a rock-paper-scissors situation where red beats blue, blue beats green, and green beats red? I have so many questions! What about stripes and polka dots and leopard print and other patterns? Is the control uniform white or black or non-existent? What if one or both of the teams are color blind but the audience isn't?
@ficmatagaea7813
@ficmatagaea7813 22 күн бұрын
For the red question, it's actually related to how we view red. Something called the red effect that can be seen in sports and other domains (ex. Don't wear red to your interview, but do wear it if you want to get a date) whereby red affects you physiologically. Evolutionary wise it's cause red is naturally tied to danger/aggression, so red colored teams are viewed as stuff we should stay away from cause we are more wired to avoid loss at all costs.

There's a vibrant sky blue (kinda the color blue chalk used to be in my childhood) that really energizes me - almost makes me feel hypomanic (I'm bipolar2 so I can say that). I was describing it to a friend, & she said, "Yeah, you want to bite it!" I've always felt something in my teeth when I see it, so I thought it was cool she saw it that way too! I'm trying to paint my home office that color, but what I got isn't quite right. I've painted one wall & am debating what to do - I don't want to waste paint, but I also don't want to mess with trying to mix other colors in (which is something I'm usually good at) in case I need more. What to do, what to do... Also, I'm painting my bedroom a really dark, deep purple - like a dark eggplant - because I find it really relaxing.
@sk8rdman
@sk8rdman Жыл бұрын
I would guess that mechanism (if any) behind the red vs blue uniforms has less to do with it strengthening those who wore red, but more to do with it somehow distracting or intimidating their opponents on some unconscious level. I almost never think about the colors I'm wearing, but I'm always experiencing the colors worn by people I engage with. That just makes more sense.
@ficmatagaea7813
@ficmatagaea7813 22 күн бұрын
Yeah, that's so true! You can look up red effect but red does have a pretty strong effect (even if a bit mixed at times) towards those who see it, cause we tend to perceive colour and immediately get associated to stuff.

@@ragerequiem6323 yeah I have a similar experience. I'd conjecture that further research would reveal simply that low levels of green light give some of the benefits of complete darkness while still allowing some limited ability to see.

Our brains saw a bunch of different waves of radiation coming off of everything around us and said "Woag, I'm going to colour-code this shit". Which makes me wonder if wanting to colour-code things to categorize them is more deeply ingrained in us as a construct, more than being a more emergent construct the way we think of it.
@ficmatagaea7813
@ficmatagaea7813 22 күн бұрын
It's actually that we tend to categorise stuff by instinct and organise our info in a way that actually makes sense to us (kinda known as the knowledge based view in psychology) ! And colour categorization can vary depending on cultures (like for example, countries with languages that differentiate between dark blue and. Light blue (siniy and goluboy) can tell them apart better!
