There you go! Now you're talking! This green has become invaluable as a landscape mixing green for me. So happy to see your review of it. The lovely, rich foliage greens that can be achieved mixing with Phthalo greens, blues and Prussian Blue. As usual, nice detailed round up my friend!

Ooh forgot you were going to have PY129 in the Color Spotlight series 😊 Love this pigment - use it as my main cool yellow (with Quin Gold as warm one). Greens are gorgeous with PB60 and Perylene Green. And nice soft browns with Perylene Violet and Potter's Pink. Also, mixes well with Cascade and Undersea Green for various greeny hues 👀 Love QOR version, if it didn't flow like crazy, I'd just use that... But it bullies every other pigment in wet on wet application and I end up reaching for Daniel Smith more. So excited for the Perylene Green episode! ❤️

So gorgeous Denise! This has been one of my top 2 greens along with Phthalo for a while now, and I've primarily used it with foliage and mixed it with blues to tone it (as you can probably guess, it mixes beautifully with Ultramarine also), but like you would've never thought to mix it with the cooler reds--it could neutralize Quin Rose fantastically in a skin tone! I never fail to learn something new with the Color Spotlight!

Thank you so much. I've really enjoyed watching all those videos. I'm not an artist, but love paint and like to have a play now and then. These videos have taught me so much, especially that a colour I'm not overly keen on, might just work wonders with another. Thanks again x

Lonesome George means a lot for my country, Ecuador. And the fact you painted a specific animal that is representative of my country's most iconic islands, the Galápagos, brings me so much emotions and joy:') that's another reason why this painting became one of my favorites from you! This was a lovely episode and I love all of the new pieces this CS reboot left us:)

Very cute tortoise! It's so sad that these creatures are no longer around, and all due to human ignorance/arrogance :( Thank you for the video! Qor's green gold is one of my favorite mixing colors, and the mixes really do show off the best side of this color. On its own, it's definitely hard to imagine how you would use it. I also got mine from the high chroma set. It was initially one of my least favorite colors, but since I had no other yellow I was forced to use it, and then I discovered how great it can be in mixes. When I did try to get another yellow, I decided to get PY150 thinking it would be a bright middle yellow, and was so disappointed when I realized the masstone was more brown just like my PY129! I was a bit bitter about it (lol), so PY150 has been banished from my palette for now. I mainly paint scenes from my garden, so I can't really use it for flowers (unless I want them to look dead), and since PY129 is cooler, it's better for mixing foliage colors.

Awesome video, Denise! I've been waiting for this one in the color spotlight series. It's such a great mixing color and the mixing portion of your video was insightful and helpful, as always. Terra Rosa (M Graham) and py129 also makes great browns, which isn't surprising since it's a close cousin to perylene maroon. And just the other day, I also discovered that py129 is an unexpectedly great mixing color for skin tones--it adds an extra dimension and glow. I think we all have to thank Steve Mitchell for singing the praises of Azo green--it was watching his videos that got me onto the py129 bandwagon! (Oh, and thanks for the shout-out, Denise! Glad I could contribute to the color spotlight series in some small way.)

Great episode! The PY129 mixed with PB60 is one of my all time favorite green mixes. Ever. P.S. I just adore the bluesy background music you put in. So refreshing and different from that same royalty free music you hear over and over everywhere. My head was moving to the beat without even noticing :)

Yay! I'm so glad you liked it! I thought the blues went well with our tortoise friend here (although honestly I was searching for five minutes of acoustic guitar and found this track so yay!) and coincidentally, the band is called Unicorn Heads! 😂 That sealed the deal.

In Liquid Color Oooh acoustic Guitar also - great! Don't get me wrong, the royalty free stuff are nice, there's nothing wrong with them. It's just that... They're on every channel, in every video, all of the time. I mostly just mute them by now, or just skip ahead to when the voice over comes back. Even with the best of song - when you hear them over and over and over, they can be too much. I love that you took the effort to look for something else. Thank you for that! And your choices are impeccable. Blues, Acoustics, classic rock - you got me there! more please! ;) And I agree, the bands name is just fate :)

I'm posting a FYI about Daniel Smith Green Gold (NOT Rich Green Gold PY129!) since this is a great color review by Denise. It was originally made with PG10, which is also called Green Gold. However, it disappeared a long time ago (but is available at specialty pigment sellers--Lee Angold has a great video where she's make a handmade watercolor with PG10, kzbin.info/www/bejne/qp3Ekn6ed7Wjjac) and the DS Green Gold is now a hue and mix of three colors to match the original. It's a beautiful, bright green color, and I think it mixes very well, but, as Denise said, is very different from PY129 which is also a beautiful and unique, earthy color. I seem to fall in love with pigments that are destined to be discontinued (PY153, PO49, PR88, PB33), so just want to give a fond RIP to PG10.

Is it just me or does it looks like the qor version of nickel azo yellow? I know with so many pigments around one must be a like. And I dont have any qor paints to compare only the ones that were sent to me,so I am sorry for that :) in my inktense - jeah totally different ballgame I know - it reminds me of their mustard version. I am totally addicted to your mixing series in the spotlight series. I tried it myself and I can Honestly say I will stick with watching your and Jane her samples. But Holymoly. I think my Karma lacks patientce in this lol. But unlike the swatches, the mixing series makes me sooooo happy, hahaha. And Fyii: I blame Marty Owings for my new addiction to nickel azo yellow. Totally, Ya hear me Marty :P and thanks for pickingout peryleen maroon. LOVE. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

If I’m not mistaken, Green Gold was originally given to PG10. When PG10 was discontinued, paint manufacturers gave Green Gold to PY129, except Daniel Smith, who created a hue mix that is closer to the original PG10. I think thats why there is some confusion with the name.

I love your story about the 'unicorn' 💜 Was playing around with my Qor green gold while listening to you and wanted to share an interesting pairing I came across. I swatched out the green gold in a sort of graduated way, then dropped in a but of cobalt teal and as qor does, it mixed in its own dynamic way and gave me something incredibly beautiful. I added a tiny bit of ultramarine in the bottom corner and the result was like this beautiful piece of Jade with marbled gold. I don't know if another brand of paint would give the same effect but I'm waiting on the rich green gold from DS and I'll try again then ! I loved this series , thank you so much💚

Green gold (py129) is such a weird green, that I'd never buy anything else in that colour except paint. Which I do like, a lot. Thank you Denise, I loved this episode of my fav series and your beautiful totricorn painting! Bob's story is lovely and sweet, George's (and his kind) very, very sad. Human race and it's thoughtless, ignorance and sheer arrogance, huh! Thankfully all is not lost and more people are becoming aware of these issues all the time. ❤

Thank you patrons for unlocking extra spots!!!! The tortoise is adorable. He looks so happy. I don't know why but in my mind he is wearing a tiny party hat. I gotta say that this is the least appealing color of the entire series. Some of the mixes are nice but the color by itself is very meh.

if i haven't said it already, thank you again for doing these series! i love all the series you do and you have such a soothing voice to listen to :D QUESTION: do you personally think this PY129 can substitute lemon yellows (green yellows)? it seems to be able to create mixes like how lemon yellows would be able to AND has the advantage of being 'green' and 'darker' if used saturated. i'm considering using it as my 'cool yellow'. what do you think?
